二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、A Simple Trick to Resist Junk Food

You’re tired and hungry. Then you catch something delicious, probably fried and almost certainly fattening. It is fried chicken! 【1】 A new research says that being exposed to the smell of junk food for at least two minutes can actually help you make healthier food choices.

Have you ever noticed that whatever appetizing treat catches your nose’s attention tends to be most appealing just after you first smell it? What will happen if you’re standing in line after a couple of minutes? 【2】 And recent science says that this is actually the right moment to walk away.

The results of a series of experiments show that extended exposure of more than two minutes to junk food smell leads to lower purchases of unhealthy foods compared with healthy smell. 【3】 That is why long exposure to junk food smell can be as satisfactory as actually having it in your mouth.

【4】 When the exposure to smell of healthy food were examined, food choices were not profoundly influenced. The reason for this is that healthy food is not connected with reward in our brain and therefore has little influence on what we desire.

So next time you’re feeling you don’t have the willpower to resist that French fries, it might be as simple as sitting there and smelling all that sweetness for just a minute or two. 【5】

A.But wait a minute before you order.

B.It’s a response that has been researched.

C.Get the satisfaction with none of the junk food.

D.It isn’t quite as irresistible as it was just moments ago.

E.However, it’s not the same case with smell of healthy food.

F.The brain doesn’t necessarily tell apart a pleasurable smell or taste.

G.It’s the same as actually eating it because your desire to eat it is satisfied.

22、If you’re new to America, or looking for a new playground for you and your dog, here are four of the most amazing dog parks in the country.

Point Isabel Regional Shoreline in Richmond, Calif.

This 23-acre park gives dogs enough space for wandering about off the leash (狗链) and making friends with other members of the doggie community. Humans have the opportunity to fish, hike and bike with ease. The view is beautiful off the San Francisco Bay.

Elm Creek Reserve Dog Park in Maple Grove, Minn.

This fenced 29-acre off-leash park offers tracks through forests and open fields northwest of Minneapolis. Winter visitors can go skiing with their pets. They can try dog-sledding, or skijoring, a sport where dogs over 30 pounds pull humans on skis. Spring and summer brings a chance for long walks. It seems like a completely different park, depending on the season.

Fort DeSoto Paw Playground and Beach in Tierra Verde, Fla.

Dogs get oceanfront action at this spacious park near St. Petersburg, with a dog-friendly beach, where pets can swim freely, or go after a Frisbee (飞盘) across the sand. There are also separate fenced areas for small and large dogs and a shower.

Freedom Barks Dog Park in Medford, N.J.

Dogs can get quite a workout in this 20-acre park with specialized training equipment, like an A-frame, plank and jump set, which is similar to a horse steeplechase. There’s a lot for dogs to play with and a lot to teach them. One day you can make them excellent service dogs.

【1】Why do dog owners take their pets to Point Isabel Regional Shoreline?

A.To let them socialize.

B.To teach them rescue lessons.

C.To help them form good habits.

D.To increase their physical activities.

【2】Where might a dog owner go if he is a skiing fan?

23、A beer bottle thrown from the stands landed near Usain Bolt in the moments before the 100-meter final Sunday night in London.

As Bolt and seven other competitors ducked into their starting crouches, a bottle sailed from the first row of the stands at Olympic Stadium.

It harmlessly bounced in the lane belonging to Yohan Blake and didn’t appear to cause a distraction(分心) to the runners, who started a moment later. The thrower’s lack of distance was a blessing. Had he gathered tips from the competitors of the hammer throw(链球) competition, which was taking place in the infield at the same time as the 100 final, the bottle could have hit one of the competitors. It ended up landing a few feet from Blake (lane5).

Edith Bosch, a female Dutch judoka who won a bronze medal earlier during the Olympics, claimed that the man who threw the bottle was sitting near her and that she “beat” him. Whether that’s true or the hyperbole (夸张的语句) of an aggravated athlete was unclear in the minutes after the incident. Pictures show a group of Dutch athletes sitting behind the starting area.

Police took the man into custody(监护). He will appear in court on Monday morning.

Neither Bolt nor Blake said they knew of the incident until they were informed by reporters. “I don’t know who would have done that,” Bolt said.

Gatlin was aware of it but implied it was only a slight distraction. “I didn’t know what it was,” he said, according to the BBC, “but when you’re in those blocks, the whole stadium is so quiet that you can hear a pin drop.”

【1】How many exact athletes are mentioned in the text?

A. Two   B. Four   C. Seven D. Eleven

【2】What is the text mainly about?

A. Usain Bolt along with seven other competitors

B. A female Dutch judoka sitting behind the starting area.

C. The lane belonging to Yohan Blake before 100 final.

D. A beer bottle thrown at Usain Bolt before 100 final.

【3】What’s the writer’s attitude towards the athletes for the 100-meter final?

A. Critical   B. Doubtful

C. Disapproving D. Positive

24、Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei officially launched the 2.0 version of its self-developed operating system (OS) on Wednesday night, the HarmonyOS. The move paved the way for the Chinese firm to challenge Google’s and Apple’s role in current and future OS ecosystems.

Among the major strong points, the HarmonyOS, with a highly scalable (可扩展的) platform, can be applied to various devices, including smart phones, computers, and other electronic devices, the company said.

Analysts said the OS will do a lot to promote Huawei’s change into being a software service provider. Huawei’s founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said that the company was focusing on software because future development in the field was basically “out of US control and we will have greater independence and autonomy (自主权)”. Ren called on the company’s staff to “dare to lead the world” in software.

“The success of a software system will always have to rely on hardware (硬件), but nowadays, Huawei doesn’t have enough hardware to support its software ambitions   — that’s the most difficult part,” said Jiang Junmu, chief writer at a news website. Once as the world’s largest smart phone maker, Huawei’s national smart phone market share (份额) has continued to drop in recent months. Liang Zhenpeng, an industry analyst, said that as an OS designed for the Internet of Things(IoT) era, the HarmonyOS may need more time and equipment to test than the OS for smart phones, and that will take at least two to three years.

Moreover, Liang noted that an ecosystem will always be the decisive factor for the success of an operating system. “Does the HarmonyOS have enough applications that can attract consumers to update to the OS? That’s a question,” Liang said. So far, more than 300 application and service partners, 1000 hardware partners, and 500,000 developers have joined in the set-up of the Harmony ecosystem.

【1】What advantage does the HarmonyOS have over other operating systems?

A.It provides users with a secure experience.

B.It operates faster than Google system.

C.It works on a wide range of equipment.

D.It has different versions in different countries.

【2】What can you infer from Ren Zhengfei’s words?

A.Huawei’s change is challenging.

B.Huawei is seeking a new software service provider.

C.The company’s staff need to improve their skills.

D.Huawei will break its dependence on the US.

【3】What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?

A.The difficulties in promoting the HarmonyOS.

B.The success of developing the HarmonyOS.

C.Smartphone sales in the national market.

D.The future software ambition of Huawei.

【4】What does Liang expect partners and developers to do?

A.Create enough applications.

B.Update the original devices.

C.Cooperate with experts in various fields.

D.Build the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
