一、翻译题(共1题,共 5分)

1、阅读下面的短文,将划线部分译成英文或中文。

It’s said that after working and studying for a long time, having some dessert can help us forget tiredness. Are you a dessert lover? What’s your favorite dessert? Have you ever heard of a traditional dessert called Fried Chop Rice Cake(驴打滚)?

The dessert is also named Lü Da Gun in Chinese. And it is one of the most popular snacks in Beijing. Its name is very interesting, isn’t it? But it has nothing to do with donkeys(驴). 1.It is a kind of handmade cake that tastes sweet and delicious. Why do Chinese people call it Lü Da Gun?

Here is a story about it. It’s believed that in the Qing Dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi(慈禧太后) was tired of having the same kind of food every day. So, one day, a chef(厨师) was called to the palace. Cixi told her needs to the chef and ordered him to cook something different. 2.However, it’s too difficult for the chef to meet these needs. After thinking carefully, he made a new kind of cake by using rice powder and red bean paste(糯米粉和豆沙馅).

However, a boy came to the kitchen. Before the chef warned him, the boy had dropped the cake into soybean powder(黄豆面) by accident. 3.厨师很担心因为要做一个新的蛋糕太迟了。He had no choice but to take the cake to Empress Dowager Cixi nervously.

4.令他惊讶的是,慈禧非常喜欢他的糕点。 His bad luck unexpectedly turned into good things. She asked the chef what the name of the cake was. The chef had thought about that. Suddenly, he thought of the name of the little boy — “Xiao Lür’. So he said that the cake’s name was Lü Da Gun.

Since then, Lü Da Gun has won the hearts of foodies(美食家) for its special taste and funny name. 5.Many visitors see it as a must-eat food when traveling to Beijing. Would you like to try it?

25、Most people have map apps on their phones that can show their location (位置) and guide them to where they want to go. But how do these apps know your location at any time or place? They find you by using satellite navigation (satnav) systems (卫星导航系统).

A satnav system uses groups of satellites to find the user’s location. This location information is then sent to a receiver, such as a smartphone.

The first satnav system was the Global Positioning System (GPS), which belongs to the United States. First used in 1964, the system is the world’s leading satnav system. But China’s satnav system, Beidou, has overtaken (超过) GPS in size.

China sent Beidou’s first navigation satellite into space in 2000. China also became the third country to build a satnav system after the US and Russia. Over 30 countries in Africa and the Middle East are using the Beidou system.

With its world-leading technology, Beidou is leading Chinese to a better life by playing important roles in different areas.

【1】How does the map apps find the user’s location?

【4】What might the writer talk about next after the last paragraph?

A.The usage of Beidou in our daily life.

B.The differences between Beidou and GPS.

C.The importance of the technology.

26、We are all experienced some unexpected moments. Not everything in our daily life happens as we expected. Running into the person you canceled a date with—while you’re on another date. Realizing you hit “reply all” on an e-mail that you’d do anything to have back. Earthquakes, medical emergencies—whatever the situation is, the first thing you probably do is full of fear. Everybody does. We can be told something, but soon we’ll forget it.

These normal human reactions can be changed. Box breathing, belly(腹部) breathing, or other things—you can learn these skills in minutes. Once you calm down, you’ll find out correctly what the problem is really about. No practice always causes us to think problems in wrong ways. Doing the thinking ahead of time also helps you come up with solution when it’s show time.

Performing in an emergency is becoming more important, for two reasons. Back in the old days, the reliability(可靠性) of most things we used or did was far less than it is today. Also, the systems we use today are more complex. There are seldom moving parts that allow us to see clearly when things will go wrong. So terrible situations can come out of everywhere.

As technology becomes a part of most things, and as once-large risks break into several small ones, we should all learn to breathe, study the situation, and work on the plan that we are smart enough to prepare well in advance.

【1】When people meet unexpected emergencies, they probably feel ________.

A.excited

B.surprised

C.calm

D.afraid

【2】What is the most important thing when you have a problem?

27、Pandas not only are a national treasure, but also have played an important role in China’s diplomacy, known as “panda diplomacy”. According to Japanese Royal Annual《日本皇家年监》, the practice of “panda diplomacy” dates back to the Tang Dynasty, when Empress Wu Zetian sent a pair of pandas to the Japanese emperor (皇帝) to express China’s friendship with Japan.

China restarted panda diplomacy in the 1950s when China sent two pandas to the Moscow Zoo. By 1982, Ching had given 23 pandas to nine different countries and truly helped to improve the understanding between different countries. However, most of them died. So China shopped giving away pandas in the 1980s. Instead, the pandas are lent to other countries. They are to be returned to China after 10 years.

____▲____ According to Xinhua, their eating habit is one significant point. Their nutrition mostly comes from bamboo shoots. Adult pandas eat about 40 kilograms of bamboo per day. Pandas can also be quite picky. How picky? Well, they refuse to eat bamboo shoots after they have blossomed (开花).

It takes 10 years for a new crop of bamboo to grow up and many countries do not have an environment suitable for bamboo growth. This means that food has to be imported (进口). In August, Calgary Zoo in Canada said that because of COVID-19, they couldn’t provide enough fresh bamboo for pandas. This may mean that they have to send pandas back though they deeply hope these pandas continue to serve as close friends between China and Canada.

But countries are still trying their best to push this special type of diplomacy. “Our people do love pandas. We regard it as a good way to keep connection with China. We are willing to do more to develop it.” Steven Monfort, director of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, told China Daily.
