六、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、   “Humans can develop certain abilities we aren't born with by practising animals' movements,” the traditional Chinese Wushu lovers believed in the past—and still do today.

Chinese FiveAnimal Exercises, also known as Wuqinxi, are the first complete set of qigong exercises following the movements of animals: monkeys, deer(鹿), birds, bears and tigers. They were created by one of the greatest doctors in Chinese history, Hua Tuo, more than 1,800 years ago.

The FiveAnimal Exercises are welldesigned to help blood circulation(循环), and let the energy go smoothly in the body so as to improve the health.

“The bear movements are good for the stomach. The tiger movements can reduce the pain in the back. The deer movements help reduce the fat around the waist(). The bird movements can help keep our knees healthy and the monkey movements can be good for the heart.” said Hua Yi, the 59th inheritor(继承人) of Wuqinxi.

For those new learners, the first few exercises might not go well. You may find it hard to focus(集中注意力). Wear comfortable clothes, keep peaceful in your mind, try to move slowly... Little by little, you'll feel more and more harmonious with nature. You may even feel you become a tiger or a deer, walking in the forest freely.

These exercises need no tools and they are easy to learn. You can search online for the videos and practise them at any time when you feel like relaxing your body and mind. Because it's fun to practise and good for health, FiveAnimal Exercises are becoming more and more popular in recent years, not only in China, but also in many other places of the world.

1Why do people practise FiveAnimal Exercises?

A.To fight against enemies. B.To protect wild animals.

C.To improve the health. D.To play as a group game.

2If your grandfather has a pain in the back, what may help him a lot?

A.The bear movements. B.The monkey movements.

C.The bird movements. D.The tiger movements.

3What does the underlined word “harmonious” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?

A.兴奋的 B.和谐的 C.敬畏的 D.肤浅的

22、   There are many ways to help improve your health like eating healthy food, taking exercise and getting medical help. But the easiest and cheapest way to improve your health is just to sleep eight hours or more every night. The general sleeping rule is that the younger you are, the longer sleep you need. But regardless of(不管) age, some people need to sleep more while for some a few hours is enough.

The problem with sleep is that more and more people in the world are not sleeping enough. According to the World Health Organization, over half the people in the world may be sleepdeprived. Having less sleep not only makes people feel tired but also causes accidents. In the United States alone, sleepy drivers cause at least 100000 traffic accidents a year. Also sleep problems can cause medical problems such as high blood pressure(血压).

Why are so many people sleepdeprived? Part of the reasons may be cultural. In the American culture, people put a higher value on work than on sleep. In fact, people who sleep a lot are usually seen as “lazy”. Also, you can sometimes hear some people say proudly that they don't have much time to sleep, they only sleep four or five hours a night. It seems that the less you sleep, the more work you'll do.

How do we teach these people to learn the value of sleep? Perhaps they may listen to the advice of Dr.James Maas, an expert(专家) in sleep. He says, “Sleep is like a credit(信用) card. When you sleep less, you are only borrowing time. You always have to pay it back. The more hours you don't sleep, the more hours you should sleep to ‘pay back’ the hours on your ‘sleep credit card’.”

For those who value work more than sleep, they should listen to what a famous person once said, “Don't think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the night. That is a foolish(愚蠢的) idea which is held by people who have no imagination. You will be able to do more.”

1According to the writer, the easiest and cheapest way to improve health is to ________.

A.eat healthy food every day B.take exercise as much as possible

C.get medical help whenever necessary D.sleep eight hours or more every night

2According to Dr.James Maas, sleep is like ________.

A.an hour B.a report C.a credit card D.a piece of paper

3The underlined word “sleepdeprived” in the passage means “________”.

A.having a good sleep B.excited about sleep

C.having less sleep D.interested in sleeping

4What do the words of the famous person mean in Paragraph 5?

A.Sleeping during the night is foolish. B.Sleeping during the night is helpful.

C.People have no courage. D.People always do less work.

5What is the best title for the passage?

A.The Value of Sleep B.The Value of Study

C.The Ways of Eating Less D.The Ways of Making Money

23、   Many people like traveling. We have some ways of traveling. The fastest way of traveling is by plane. In the past, when people wanted to go to a far place, they needed a month or more to get there. But now, people can get to the far place in one day by plane.

Traveling by train is slower than by plane, but you can see many beautiful places when you travel through. Modern (现代的) trains have comfortable seats and dining cars. They even make the long journey happy. Because people get to a far place quickly by plane or train, they usually take a train or a plane when they travel on business.

Some people prefer to travel by sea. You can visit many other countries or different parts of your country. Ships are not so fast as trains or planes, but traveling by sea is a very pleasant way to spend a holiday.

Many people like to travel by car. They can make their own timetable. They can travel seven or eight hundred kilometers in a day, just as they like. They can stop if there is something interesting. For example, at a good restaurant, they can enjoy a good meal, or at a hotel to spend the night. So traveling by car is popular for pleasure trips.

24、   It's important to have positive feelings in our daily life. Compared with some unhappy people, those who are always pleased and relaxed are less likely to get colds, according to a new study. The researchers from New York University said, " Being happy helps the bodies prevent diseases(疾病).

"It seems that positive feelings may reduce the possibility of illness," said the researcher Sheldon Cohen.

In an earlier study, Cohen's team interviewed 193 adults every day for two weeks. In this period, the people told researchers about their happy or sad feelings that day. Two weeks later, all of them were made to catch colds by doctors, and each of them had to stay alone in a room for six days.

The results showed that each in the study was equal to fall ill. But people who were lively and relaxed said they felt happy during the research. Their illnesses were less serious and lasted for shorter time.

Cohen believes that when people have positive feelings, their body may produce a kind of chemical that helps to fight illnesses. So if you care about your health, please look on the bright side and make yourself happy all the time.

根据短文内容,判断正(T)误(F)。

1The people with positive feelings are more likely to suffer from colds.

2Good feelings will make the illness less serious and last shorter.

3The people with bad feelings are sure to get diseases.

4The people in Cohen's study would not stay with other sick people in the same room.

5Positive feelings can make people look on the bright side and make themselves happy.
