21、From the De’ang ethnic group in Yunnan comes a myth: 102 tea leaves magically transformed into 51 capable men and 51 beautiful women, then one couple remained on land to create humankind after the other 50 pairs flew to heaven.

In fact, the myth acts as the first story in the documentary One Cup, A Thousand Stories. This six-episode BBC new documentary, each lasting 50 minutes or so, was filmed for three years in 13 countries across six continents, giving the audience a chance to examine tea’s influence on daily life in different places, as well as revealing the planting and picking techniques. It is shown on Chinese streaming platform Migu Video and runs on the BBC Earth Channel for Asia as an attempt to promote tea and its culture to overseas audiences.

Shot in 4K high-definition resolution, the documentary’s Chinese version is narrated by Liu Cong, a voice actor known for the animated series The Silver Guardian, and the international version is narrated by English actor Hugh Bonneville, known for Downton Abbey and The Paddington Franchise.

Other stories reflecting tea’s impact include a martial artist achieving inner peace, a key element of his practice, in Mount Emei in Sichuan Province; the wedding ceremony of a young couple in Malaysia where serving tea is an important way of expressing gratitude to parents; and a family in Fuzhou, Fujian Province that is dedicated to producing jasmine tea.

22、It can be incredibly difficult to inspire ourselves to go for a run during winter, particularly when it’s wet and windy outside. But new research has found that even a super-quick run could have great health benefits. In fact, it seems just a 10-minute session will not only make us feel better, but also could actually improve brain health, too. Now, we all know that exercise can improve mental and physical health in many ways.

But when it comes to mental wellbeing, there’s been relatively little research done on the specific benefits of running, compared with other physical activities, such as cycling. So this was something put to the test during a recent study. Researchers from University of Tsukuba in Japan asked participants to run on a treadmill (跑步机) for just 10 minutes. They then had to take a Stroop Color and Word Test which is used to measure reaction times in brain processing. Results showed there was a highest point in self-reported pleasure and an increase in degree of activity of the brain.

In other words, runners were found to have an increase in blood flow in the part of the brain that’s associated with dealing with functions and controlling mood (情绪). Researchers then compared these results to a similar study on cycling, which also showed improved cognition (认知), but no mood improvement. Therefore, it seems various types of exercise can make us feel differently.

The authors noted, “Given exercise is medicine, the effects of drugs differ depending on the type of drug, different types of exercise such as running and cycling should be observed to have different effects on mental health and brain functions as well.”

So pushing ourselves to get outside for a run will really make us feel better, potentially more than other fitness activities. And these findings show that we don’t necessarily need to do a lot of exercise to feel the benefit of it.

【1】What did the new research find?

A.Running fast benefits all of us.

B.Running is the best exercise.

C.A short time run can be beneficial.

D.A healthy mind inspires us to run.

【2】How did the researchers get the result?

A.By using different drugs.

B.By taking some word tests.

C.By collecting the former information.

D.By doing experiments and comparisons.

【3】Which is related to our happiness according to the passage?

A.Cycling.

B.Medicine.

C.Blood flow.

D.Colors.

【4】What is the main idea of the text?

A.We should go for a run in winter.

B.Running benefits us physically and mentally.

C.We don’t need a lot of exercise.

D.Running on a treadmill is better than running outside.

23、   Holidays can be enjoyable and relaxing. But sometimes a holiday can change your life completely, which is what happened two years ago to Victoria Smith and Sally Gook.

Victoria Smith, six years ago, was working as a manager at Next, a British chain store. Then she went on holiday to Borneo. “It was a working holiday,” said Victoria, “where you could study the orang-utan in the wild — I have always been interested in apes, so I thought it would be fun. ” The holiday was wonderful, and when Victoria came home she found it very difficult to return to her old life. Although everybody told her she was mad, she decided to go back to university and study biology. Four years later she became a chimpanzee keeper.

For the last two years Victoria has been working at Monkey World, a centre in southwest England that looks after apes which used to be ill-treated. She works long hours, and the pay isn’t very good, but she loves it. “I’m really happy now. Since I started working here I feel that I’ve been doing something important, not just wasting my life.”

Sally Gook wakes up every morning to a deep blue sky and blazing sun. For the last two years she has been living on the tiny Greek island of Lipsi, which is only 16 square kilometers in size and has a population of just 650.

But until a few years ago she lived in London. “I was working for American Express and I had a good social life and earned a lot of money. But I had to get up very early every morning, often in horrible weather, and got a train and the tube to work.”

Then one day she and a friend decided they needed a relaxing holiday, and they came to Lipsi. “I loved it — the people, the mountains, the sun, and the delicious food. Suddenly I knew there was a different life waiting for me here.” A few months later she applied for a job at the travel company which had organized her holiday. Since then she has been living on Lipsi and working as a tourist guide. Sally said, “I’ve only been back to London once, and I can’t imagine ever living there again.”

【1】“The orang-utan” (in paragraph 2) most probably refers to ________.

A.a chain store

B.a holiday resort

C.a kind of animal

D.a zoo for wildlife

A.She hesitated over whether to become a chimpanzee keeper.

D.She felt it unnecessary to work long hours.

【3】Which of the following is TRUE about Sally Gook’s former job?

A.She didn’t earn much.

B.She worked as a tourist guide.

24、   What is one of the most boring and tiresome words ever? Like discipline, responsibility is one of those words you have probably heard so many times from authority figures that you have been a bit allergic to it. Still, it's one of the most important things to grow and to feel good about your life. Without it as a foundation nothing else in any personal development book really works.

It's been said that the line between childhood and adulthood is crossed when we move from saying “It got lost” to “I lost it”. Indeed, being accountable, understanding and accepting the role our choices play in the things that happen are important signs of emotional and moral maturity. That's why responsibility is one of the main supports of good character.

Many people have been refusing to grow up and avoiding the burdens implied in being accountable. Yes, responsibility sometimes requires us to do things that are unpleasant or even frightening. It asks us to carry our own weight, prepare and set goals and exercise the discipline to reach our ambitions. But the benefits of accepting responsibility are far more important than the short-lived advantages of refusing to do so. No one makes his or her life better by avoiding responsibility. In fact, irresponsibility is a form of self-forced servitude (苦役)to circumstances and to other people.

George Bernard Shaw once said, “People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them.” “Man must stop owing his problems to his environment and learn again to exercise his will ---his personal responsibility in the realm of faith and morals,” said Albert Schweitzer.

The following incident shows blaming others and not taking full responsibility: Bernard L. Brow. Jr. once worked in a hospital where a patient knocked over a cup of water, which spilled on the floor beside the patient's bed. The patient was afraid he might slip on the water if he got out of the bed, so he asked a nurse to mop it up. The patient didn't know it, but the hospital policy said that small spills were the responsibility of the nurse while large spills were to be mopped up by the hospital’s housekeeping group.

The nurse decided the spill was a large one and she called the housekeeping group. A housekeeper arrived and declared the spill a small one. An argument followed. “It's not my response. “Well, it's not mine.” she said, “the puddle is too small.”

The angry patient listened for a time, then took a pitcher of water from his night table and poured the whole thing on the floor. “Is that a big enough puddle now for you two to decide?” he asked. It was, and that was the end of the argument.

So, responsibility is about our ability to respond to circumstances and to choose the attitudes, actions and reactions that shape our lives. It is a concept of power that puts us in the driver's seat. The grand sight of the potential of our lives can only be appreciated when we begin to be accountable and independent. If you want more control over your life and the pleasures, power of freedom and independence, all you have to do is be responsible. Responsible people not only depend on themselves, but show others that they can be depended on.

1Those who escape from accepting responsibility________.

A.can't achieve their goals in a short time

B.can benefit from not growing up in the end

C.can miss the advantages of being a responsible person

D.can avoid the burdens of unpleasant or frightening things

2What does the underlined part “get on” mean?

A.Succeed. B.Struggle.

C.Serve. D.Exist.

3What does George Bernard Shaw's saying imply?

A.We shouldn't care what kind of situations we're in.

B.We shouldn't owe failure to the sense of responsibility.

C.We should bear responsibility regardless of situations.

D.We should first step out of our present circumstances.

4Why was the patient quite angry, with the nurse and the housekeeper?

A.Because he had slipped on the water by chance.

B.Because he had to mop up the water by himself.

C.Because he didn't like the noise made in hospital.

D.Because he found them refusing their responsibility.

5What is the author's understanding of responsibility in the last paragraph?

A.It shapes our lives with more opportunities.

B.It enables us to react with dependable attitude.

C.It encourages us to be more helpful and independent.

D.It strengthens our ability to fight against bad circumstances.
