四、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

24、A

In some foreign countries, some people don't like the number 13.They don't think 13 is a lucky number, for example, they don't like to live on the thirteenth floor.

One day,my friend Jack asked some friends to dinner. When all of his friends arrived,he asked them to sit at the table. He began to count the people in his mind while they were having the delicious food.Suddenly,he cried out,“Oh,there are thirteen people here!”

Everyone's face turned white except Mr Brown. He said slowly with a smile on his face,“Don't worry,my friends. We have fourteen people here.My wife Mrs Brown will have a baby in a few months. She is in the familys now.”

All of them became happy again.“Congratulations!” they said. They all had a good time that evening.

根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)(F)。

1Some people don't like the number 13 because they think it's unlucky.

2Jack asked his friends to dinner one day.

3The people felt unhappy when they heard Jack's words.

4Mrs Brown will have a baby in a few weeks.

5At last, all people had a good time that evening in the passage.

25、So, it’s exam time again. Have you done the necessary work to get good scores?

Some students sleep with the textbook under the pillow(枕头) in the hope that knowledge will be magically going to their brain. But it doesn’t work. The best way is to practice repeatedly over a long period of time instead of learning all things in a short time before exams. Just as a scientist called Tom Stafford advises, if you organize five hours of study into one hour a day, you’ll remember more than if you study for five hours on one day.

________—get a pen and paper and start working. Students who can test themselves earlier will be better at getting back the knowledge from the memory and keep it in the long run. John Dunlosky, a Professor of Psychology at Kent State University in the US; suggests that “You start by reading a textbook with your favorite pens and colors; and then write down the important ideas on small cards. While doing so, you actually try to test yourselves on them.”

Good revision(复习) should give you confidence. But if you are still worried, some special traditions are suggested. In Japan it seems to be a tradition for students to eat Katsudon before a test. This is a bowl of rice with egg and pork pieces; The name of the dish makes people think of the word “Katsu”, meaning “winning”. For some students in South Korea, the key to success is not washing their hair before an exam, because they believe they could wash all the knowledge out of their heads. And in different parts of the world, there are always those who believe in their “lucky socks”.

The bottom line is that you need to stay healthy. Eating good meals, drinking enough water and sleeping well on the eve of the test help a lot. They make it easier for you to get success.

Good luck in your exam!

【1】How many suggestions are mentioned in this passage?

C.Don’t depend on memory alone.

【3】Who usually avoid washing hair before the tests?

A.Korean students.

B.Japanese students.

C.Chinese students.

A.The traditions about exams always work out.

A.Are you worried about your exam?

B.Are you ready for your exam?

26、①A sister and a brother are walking in the woods. She hears a bird singing and sees raspberries(山莓) on long thorny stems. She avoids the thorns while picking one. It feels hard. She throws it into her mouth and says it tastes sweet. Her brother hears a whisper in the bushes and sees a snake slither out, so he moves away.

②Our bodies have sense organs (器官) that collect outside information. Our brains use this information to decide how we should react (反应). The five basic senses are sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch.

③Our eyes are sight organs. The dark center of the eye is the pupil (瞳孔). In bright light, the pupil grows smaller so that less light can get in. In the dark, the pupil grows bigger to let in more light. Behind the pupil is the lens (透镜), which bends the light and focuses it on the retina (视网膜). There, special cells (细胞) send the image to the brain.

④Odors (气味) come from tiny particles (颗粒) that travel through the air, Nerve (神经) endings in our noses sense these particles, and the olfactory (嗅觉的) nerves send the information to the brain. This is how we smell a plate of freshly baked cookies.

⑤We taste things with our tongues (舌头). Our tongues have special groups of cells called taste buds (味酱). The front of the tongue tastes sweet things, and the sides taste salty and sour things. The back of the tongue tastes bitter things. Our taste buds need saliva (唾液) to work. The more we chew and mix saliva with the food, the better we taste it.

⑥Our ears are shaped like cups to pick up sound waves (波). Inside the ear, a canal (管、道) directs the sound to the eardrum (耳膜). The sound waves vibrate the eardrum. Three small bones behind the eardrum pass the vibrations on to the inner ear. There, they are picked by the auditory, or hearing nerve and carried to the brain.

⑦We use our sense of touch to feel our surroundings. Nerve endings in the skin send signals to the brain. We can feel temperature, roughness and wetness. We can feel different shapes and we can feel pain.

⑧Besides the five basic senses, there are as many as fifteen other senses. We have sense organs deep inside our bodies that sense things such as our weight and body position. We have a sense of balance. We sense when we are hungry, thirsty or tired.

【1】Why does the first paragraph introduce the two children?

A.To lead to the topic.

27、

Some people don’t like storms, but I think they are very exciting.

We often get storms at the end of a hot summer day. The clouds are small and white at first. However, they get bigger and bigger until they make one large, black cloud. The sky gets dark and it starts to rain hard. And then the streets are like swimming pools. There is a flash of bright light in the sky and then, after a few seconds, you can hear the loud “bang” of thunder().

Light travels very fast, so we always see the lightning (闪电) before we hear the thunder. If the clouds are one kilometer away, you can slowly count “one, two, three” between the lightning and the thunder. If the clouds are two kilometers away, you can count to six, and so on.

Lightning is very beautiful but it can also be dangerous. Lightning is electricity “jumping” to the ground from a storm cloud. It usually hits tall things, so if you are outside when there is thunder and lightning, don’t stand under a tree.

1What can we see in a storm?

A.Blue sky. B.Thunder. C.Heavy rain. D.Both A and C

2Why are the streets like swimming pools?

A.Because it rains hard. B.Because they are clean.

C.Because the sky gets dark. D.Because the cloud is large and dark.

3What does the underlined word “they” refer to?

A.Lightning. B.Thunder. C.Winds. D.Clouds.

4What’s the main idea of the last paragraph?

A.Lightning is dangerous.

B.Lightning can hit tall things.

C.Lightning jumps to the ground from a storm cloud.

D.It is dangerous to get close to a tree when there is thunder and lightning.
