21、In recent years, science fictions are becoming increasingly popular. Science fiction writers using their magical imagination create imaginary worlds that attract a great number of readers especially teenagers. But how can they make it so believable? 【1】
The way things work in your imaginary worlds will be based on actual science. So you must be familiar with the scientific laws related to your creation. If you’re writing about humans living on a planet with zero gravity, then you need to know the effects of zero gravity on the human body. 【2】 Only in this way can you gain the readers’ trust.
Then the rules in your creation can be different from our daily life, so you have to figure out the exact rules of your imaginary worlds. 【3】 For example, if humans in your creation are able to breathe underwater in Chapter 1, your characters can’t drown(溺水)in a swimming pool or river in Chapter 3.
【4】 You should decide the following issues: the history of the world, the geography, what possibilities it offers, how everything works in this new reality, as well as how all of these factors affect the way your characters think, feel, and react. You don’t have to tell your readers all the rules in the first chapter. But you have to let readers know enough to understand what’s going on.
When you are writing, remember to make it feel real. You are creating a new real world for the readers. 【5】 They are able to see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste what it’s like in the new world. Whether your novel is about a world without disease or an undiscovered planet, help your readers feel like they’ re actually there.
A.And you have to follow them.
B.You are inviting them to visit the new world.
C.You have to get rich imagination to create science fictions.
D.Make sure what you are writing is not against basic science.
E.Characters in the imaginary worlds always have super power.
F.Here you will find the answer if you are longing to create one.
G.Your preparation work also involves planning everything in great detail.
22、Starbucks recently made plans to build nearly 3, 000 new stores in China over the next five years. That almost doubles the number of stores here now. The company just opened its largest stores in Shanghai, China, which often has a long line of people waiting. It is opening a new store in China every 15 hours, and it now has plenty of competition. That marks an important change in the tastes and buying power of the growing market.
It’s no secret there’s a lot of tea in China. But coffee, not tea, is increasingly becoming the choice for China’s rapidly growing middle class.
Starbucks keeps opening hundreds of new stores here mainly because of China’s young people who are accepting coffeehouse culture. “You have a very young population that has got in touch with Western cultures easily,” Dave Seminsky said. He owns Sumerian Coffee in Shanghai.
There’s still a lot of room for the bean business here to grow. The ordinary person in China drinks just 3 cups of coffee every year, while the ordinary person in the U.K. drinks 250 cups and in the U.S., the number is 363. But that need and the influence of climate change on the world’s supply could lead to fewer beans and higher prices.
In the next 30 years, China could be bringing two to three million tons of coffee into the nation and the world’s supply of coffee now is 6.9 million tons. If coffee really does take off here, is there enough supply? Luckily, there’s still all that tea in China.
【1】Why are China’s young people fond of drinking coffee?
A.They can afford Western products.
B.They want to look more international.
C.Their taste gradually changes as they grow up.
D.They grow up influenced by Western cultures.
【2】What is a cause of the world’s coffee supply going down?
A.Competition in the coffee market.
B.Changes in natural conditions.
C.More new drinks coming out.
D.Terrible taste of coffee beans.
【3】What may be the problem for the coffee market in China in the future?
A.The supply of coffee cannot meet people’s needs.
B.Tea will be the main drink for the Chinese.
C.Coffee beans cannot be grown in China.
D.Fewer companies will offer coffee.
【4】The phrase “take off” in the last paragraph means ________.
A.leave the ground and begin to fly
B.become popular
C.go away in a hurry
D.remove clothing from the body
23、Empty nest syndrome(综合症) is a phenomenon in which parents experience feelings of sadness and loss when the last child leaves home. You might find it difficult to suddenly have no children at home who need your care. 【1】 If you have only one child, you might have a particularly difficult time adjusting to an empty nest.
【2】 In the past, research suggested that parents dealing with empty nest syndrome experienced a sense of loss that might them easy to experience depression, alcoholism and identity crisis. 【3】 When the last child leaves home, parents have a new opportunity to improve the quality of their marriage and restart interests for which they previously might not have had time.
If you’re experiencing feelings of loss due to empty nest syndrome, take action. 【4】 This might be an opportune time to explore or return to hobbies, leisure activities, or career pursuits.
Many suggest preparing for an empty nest while your children are still living with you. 【5】 They may include family vacations, long talks, and taking time off from work to make special memories. Also, make specific plans for the extra money, time, and space that will become available when children are no longer living at home.
A.What’s the impact of empty nest syndrome?
B.You might also worry about your children’s safety.
C.What can parents do to deal with empty nest syndrome?
D.Make plans with the family while everyone is still under the same roof.
E.Social support can be incredibly helpful during times of stress and loneliness.
F.For example, time and energy that you directed toward your child can now be spent on different areas of your life.
G.However, recent studies suggest that an empty nest might reduce work and family conflicts, and provide parents with many other benefits.
24、To solve a big environmental problem, chemists have been thinking small. Really small: a new mini robot with the purpose of helping clean up tiny plastic polluting water across the globe.
The new microrobots, each of which is no bigger than the tip of a pencil, are magnetic (磁性的) and shaped like four-pointed stars. When the sunlight shines on them, they can swim in a specific direction; when the sunlight disappears, they stop moving. Finding a piece of plastic, they hold onto it, produce chemical reactions and start to break it down.
The project is led by chemist Martin Pumera, a researcher who also studies ways to build microrobots at the Czech University in Prague. About ten years ago, he noticed the microplastic was everywhere, from the bottom of the ocean to the ice on the top of mountains. It even turned up in drinking water, both bottled and tap water. Just think about how much plastic you encounter every day. It doesn’t easily degrade (降解), which is a big problem. Therefore, Pumera chose to focus on the problem of water pollution caused by microplastic.
The researchers tested the microrobots on four types of plastic in the lab. After a week, all four began degrading, losing between 0. 5 and 3 percent of their weight, which indicated they were breaking down. The robots also turned the plastic’s smooth surface into rough. Finally, they could be collected for reuse along with the plastic waste without causing new pollution.
In fact, Pumera says they still have a long way to go. These microrobots are unlikely to succeed in degrading all types of plastics. They’ll also need a lot of testing to show that they’re safe in open waterways, such as at sea. But he thinks that these challenges can be overcome. Someday, the microrobots will play a big role in a worldwide cleanup effort.
【1】What can be learned about the new microrobot?
A.It is of a round shape.
B.It is as small as a pencil.
C.It is driven by sunlight.
D.It uses physical reaction.
【2】What inspired Pumera to design the microrobot?
A.The ice on the mountains.
B.Secrets of the ocean bottom.
C.The lack of drinking water.
D.The microplastic pollution.
【3】How does a microrobot deal with the plastic?
A.Collecting it for reuse.
B.Making its surface smooth.
C.Absorbing it completely.
D.Breaking it down to some extent.
【4】What is Pumera’s attitude to their future research?
A.Doubtful.
B.Confident.
C.Regretful.
D.Critical.

26、阅读下面的文章,并按要求用英语写一篇150词的作文。
I am so looking forward to my college life. I have pictured it thousands of times in my mind. The free lifestyle and lively parties are always appearing in my mind. The great expectation of campus life endows me a lot of passion to keep studying After one year's study I would find my lifestyle.
The first thing for me is to learn more knowledge. Most students find a way to release themselves and skip or sleep in the class. They think study is just the task, so they give up improving themselves and take part in all kinds of activities, which bring them great joy. The wrong conception about college stage makes most students miss the best time to equip themselves with sills. I realize my job and dare not to loosen study.
