Planes have changed the world in the last hundred years. But this great change began with two ordinary people.

24、Wang Yaping is a member of China’s Shenzhou-XIII mission (任务). She is also the first woman to enter China’s space station. Why does she choose this job? Here’s her story.

Wang was born in a small village in Yantai, Shandong Province in 1980. She was good at sports and enjoyed running when she was a student. Her parents wanted her to be a teacher in the future.

Her space dream started in 2003 when China sent its first astronaut Yang Liwei into space. “Now China has its first man in space, when can our country have its first woman?” thought Wang at that time.

In 2010, Wang became an astronaut and a strong candidate for China’s first flight by woman. However, she didn’t pass the final test. Wang didn’t lose heart and worked even harder.

In 2013, Wang’s space dream came true. She became a member of the Shenzhou-X mission.   During her 15-day mission, Wang gave China’s first lecture (讲课) from space and encouraged young people to go for their space dreams.

Last year, the Shenzhou XIII spacecraft rose into the sky on October 16th. Wang and her teammates, Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu set off for the Tiangong space station. On April 16th, 2022, they returned to the earth safely.
