Tree Planting Day is an important day in the world. Today, many countries have such a holiday. In China, Tree Planting Day is on March 12. It is a day to remember Sun Yat-sen. Sun Yat-sen was a great person in China. However, few of us know that he was the person who encouraged people to plant trees in China.
Tree Planting Day in China was started in 1915. From 1916 to 1928, Tree Planting Day was celebrated on the Chinese Qingming Festival each year. Sun Yat-sen asked people to stop cutting down forests in many of his books and speeches. He even planted trees himself with many people. Sun Yat-sen died on March 12, 1925. In order to remember Sun Yat-sen, Chinese people decided to set Tree Planting Day on March 12 every year.
Planting trees is good for our Earth. Trees can not only make the environment beautiful but also give us forests, stop soil from losing, protect farmland and change climate. They can make the Earth a good place for us to live in. Without trees, our lives will be difficult. For example, we can’t get fruit or oil from trees. Therefore, it’s important for everyone to plant more trees on Tree Planting Day.

26、 There are at least 3,000 miles (about 4,828 km) of waterways in Britain. On these canals (运河) and rivers, there are over 30,000 "houseboats"--boats that people use as homes. Around 10,000 of them are located in London.
Houseboat communities are made up of people who are looking for a slower way of life and who want to be in touch with nature.
Living on the water sounds romantic (浪漫的), but it is also hard work. There are daily things that need to be done, like bringing fuel (燃料) and water on board and dealing with "waste" water from the kitchen sink, shower and toilet. In winter, living on a boat can be very cold and there is always a feeling of being damp(潮湿的). Of course, most boats are quite small inside, so you don't have much space, especially if you are a couple, family or group of friends.
However, the number of people living on Britain's waterways has increased by around 50 percent over the past ten years. This is not only because they like the idea of life on water but also because it is much cheaper to buy or rent (租) a boat than a flat or a house.
There is a great sense of community on the waterways. Houseboat neighbours often become friends for life. This is quite a different story from people who live in flats or houses and may hardly know the people next door at all.
【1】What can we know about houseboats in Britain from the passage?
A. There are about 40,000 houseboats in total. B. They are boats that are used as homes.
C. They are houses in the shape of boats. D. They are designed for traveling on water.
【2】Why do people live in houseboats?
A. They want to get away from nature. B. They need to make a living by fishing.
C. They prefer a slower way of life. D. They enjoy living an faster life on water.
【3】What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about?
A. The best season to live on a boat. B. Tips for living on a houseboat.
C. The costs of living on water. D. The difficulties of living on the water.
【4】Why are more people choosing to live on waterways?
A. Because it costs less than living in a house or flat.
B. Because the government is promoting (推进) this idea.
C. Because they are afraid of living in cities.
D. Because it provides a bad sense of community
27、
Someone once said that only change itself never changes. That certainly seems to be the case with me.
I can measure (测量) my life by the changes that have taken place. And now I am deciding on another change. We are selling our boat after fifteen years of summers on the water.
We bought the boat shortly after we moved to Canada’s west coast. We then joined a boating club and we enjoyed cruising among the Southern Gulf Islands, meeting friends who likes doing cruising on the sea. Skukum, as well we call the boat, has carried us safely through both smooth and very rough water. At about ten meters long it is large enough to be comfortable to live on for days at a time. Also, the scenery in our part of the world is fantastic with sea birds, dolphins and even whales.
We feel it is time, however, to do something different. Admittedly, this change will be made partly because boating is an expensive hobby. Boats require a lot of maintenance (维修), use lots of gas and cost a lot even when they are sitting still (静止的). Beyond the cost is the feeling that we have done just about everything we want to do with the boat. We could continue to spend summer weekends on the water or we could make a change in our lifestyle and start doing road trips to places we haven’t seen across North America. As we have children and grandchildren on both the east and west coasts, driving trips will be more necessary. So it’s time to make a choice and, having now made it, it’s time to make a change.
Like most changes there will be both benefits and regrets but we feel the time has come. There is no doubt that we will miss the boat but we will also open a new door in our lives. Hopefully, we have made the right decision.
【1】What never changes that the writer believes?
A.Himself. B.Change. C.Life D.Hobby.
【2】What change did the writer decide on?
A.Selling their boat to change the lifestyle. B.Moving to Canada’s west coast.
C.Meeting more friends who like boating. D.Joining a boating club.
【3】According to Paragraphs 2&3, what can we learn about the boat?
A.The writer’s family bought the boat fifteen years ago.
B.The boat is called Skukum and usually driven on rivers.
C.The boat is large enough to live for months at a time.
D.The boat has many sea-birds, dolphins and whales inside.
【4】From Paragraph 4, which is NOT the reason why the writer has made such a decision?
A.Besides maintenance and gas, the boat costs much even when it’s still.
B.They have done everything they want to do with the boat.
C.They want to see more across North America through road trip.
D.Their children and grandchildren will move to the east coast.
【5】From the last paragraph, what does the writer think of their decision?
A.He has regretted doing so and missed the boat.
B.He hopes the decision will bring them a new lifestyle.
C.He believes this is a correct decision without doubt.
D.he doesn’t like to open a new door in their lives.
