21、The moon hasn’t had an easy time over the years. Since the beginning of the solar system 4.5 billion years ago, its gray and lifeless surface has been repeatedly hit by space rocks, leaving behind a landscape full of broken stones. Beneath this surface, however, hide the moon’s most attracting secrets for human explorers, from a large amount of ice for producing drinking water to rocket fuel. More importantly, mapping the moon’s subsurface can show some hidden periods of solar system history. This is confirmed by fresh results from a Chinese rover (月球车).
The latest results come from the Chang’e-4 mission, run by the China National Space Administration. Launched in December 2018 and reaching the moon in early January 2019, the mission became the first to land on the far side of the natural satellite, targeting a region near the lunar south pole called the South Pole-Aitken Basin. The Chang’e-4 rover is still operational today and has been slowly moving across this region, traveling a few hundred meters since it landed.
Using a radar instrument on Chang’e-4, researchers have found that the rover is likely sitting on different layers of ejecta ( 喷 出 物 ) and a very clear order of layers can be seen. The rover’s radar instrument was able to enter up to 40 meters below the surface of the moon, more than twice the distance achieved by the former, the Chang’e-3 mission, which landed on the moon near side in December 2013. Data from the latest mission show three different layers beneath the rover. It is not currently possible to date the layers under Chang’e-4. But they do provide some information about lunar history dating back about four billion years.
The rover is continuing to move across the surface, making regular stops to take measurements and use its instruments.
【1】What is the most important purpose of human’s exploration of the moon?
A.To seek fresh drinking water.
B.To find hidden rocket fuel.

B.It is the first to travel around the moon during the exploration.
C.It took over a year from launch to land the far side of the moon.
D.A radar instrument helped it to enter 40 meters below the surface of the moon.

22、It was a physical class. But it was nothing like previous ones — the class was “attended”
by over 60 million students across China, and the teacher was not even on the planet: she was 340 kilometers above the earth.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Wang Yaping. I’ll host your lecture today.” Smiling to the camera, Wang, China’s second female astronaut, started her video class on June 20 on board the Tiangong-1 space station.
To show how Newton’s Laws work in space, Wang and her fellow astronauts used simple items like balls and spinning tops. The highlight of the lecture was when Wang made a film of water using a metal ring, something that only happens in zero gravity, where the surface tension(张力) of water is much higher than it is on the earth. She then took it a step further by pouring more water onto the film and turning it into a water ball, leaving the audience amazed by what they saw.
The 40-minute lesson seemed to have passed too quickly for students to see enough of those magical experiments. But sending stuff into space is really expensive. According to The Beijing Times, every kilogram launched into space cost 20,000 dollars. The experimental items taken this time were all strictly selected and weighed about 2.9 kilograms in total. This adds up to quite a large price tag.
The organizers of the event also had to consider the time of day: the communication signal between the earth and Tiangong-1 was best during that specific 40 minutes, when the spacecraft was flying within the coverage of all of the ground-based testing stations.
【1】Why is the class different from a common one?
A. Because it took 40 minutes.
B. Because over 60 million students across the world attended it.
C. Because the teacher was on the planet.
D. Because the lecturer was in space.

23、Walking through an airport is never easy. Now imagine doing it if you were blind. That’s the problem faced by Chieko Asakawa, a computer scientist and IBM researcher. Asakawa often flies between the US and Japan, making the journey monthly. If traveling alone she has to be helped at both ends of the flight, which sometimes includes endless waiting. Searching for a better replacement led Asakawa to invent a high-tech suitcase that helps get her to the place she wants to go safely.
“I never relax when I travel alone,” she says, “I always think about what technology will help me travel more easily, quickly and comfortably.” It was this restlessness that led to the AI suitcase.
The idea has been in development since 2017 through research between IBM, other Japanese companies, and Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania. Asakawa says there are hopes to commercialize the suitcase and a pilot scheme (试验计划) is planned to use it in an airport, a shopping mall and other public spaces. “Though the suitcase is too full of tech to hold any clothes, that could change in the future,” she says.
A runner, Asakawa, held Olympic dreams as a child, but a swimming accident at the age of 11 caused her to gradually lose her sight until, aged 14, she became totally blind. As a grown-up she has paid attention to developing accessibility technology. Among her creations is “aDesigner”, whose aim is to make designers’ websites more user-friendly, and “IBM Home Page Reader”, the first voice browser to allow Internet access for blind people. Asakawa has won industry and government awards and been introduced into the US National Inventors Hall of Fame.
“The blind people usually use a white cane (手杖) or a guide dog. It will open up many doors for blind people, because we’d be able to go anywhere by ourselves. Without new technology, we cannot make our society more inclusive (包容的),” Asakawa says. “A smart suitcase is a great showcase for how AI and technology can change the lives of the blind.”
【1】What drove Asakawa to invent the suitcase?
A.The suggestion from an international airport.
B.The wish to finish her trip without any help.
C.The huge business advantages of the suitcase.
D.The experience of keeping the blind company.
【2】What do we learn about the suitcase?
A.It can hold clothes.
B.It has yet to be widely used.
C.It has proved unhelpful for the blind.
D.It is ready to be commercially produced.
【3】What does Asakawa think of the suitcase?
A.It will encourage more scientists to help the blind.
B.It will make the public care for the blind more.
C.It will hugely free up the blind’s movements.
D.It will change people’s way of traveling.
【4】What is the best title for this text?
