26、When your pet has an emergency, first aid is not a substitute for veterinary(兽医) treatment. However, before you are able to get your pet to a veterinarian(兽医), knowing some basic first aid can help.

Bite Wounds

Approach the pet carefully to avoid getting bitten. Wear a mask for the animal and then check the wound. Clean the wound with large amounts of saline(盐水). If these are not available, then regular water may be used. Wrap large open wounds to keep them clean.

Bleeding

Apply firm, direct pressure over the bleeding area until the bleeding stops. Hold the pressure for at least 10 minutes. Avoid bandages that cut off circulation.

__________

Check to see if the animal is choking(窒息) on a foreign object. If an animal is not breathing, place it on a firm surface with its left side up. Check for a heartbeat. If you hear a heartbeat but not breathing, close the animal’s mouth and breathe directly into its nose—not the mouth—until the chest expands. Repeat 12 to 15 times per minute.

Burns

Wash the burn immediately with large amounts of cool, running water. Apply an ice pack for 15—20 minutes. Do not place an ice pack directly on the skin. Wrap the pack in a light towel or other cover. If the animal has large quantities of dry chemicals on it skin, brush them off. Water may activate some dry chemicals.

Fractures (骨折)

Symptoms include pain, inability to use a limb (腿). Wear a mask for the pet and look for bleeding. If you can control bleeding without causing more injury, then do so. Watch for signs of shock. Don’t try to set the fractures by pulling the limb. Transport the pet to the veterinarian immediately, supporting the injured part as best as you can.

27、   Since her first publication in 1968, Louise Cluck has been no stranger to awards over her long and well-known career. In 1993, she won the Pulitzer Prize for her collection of poems, The Wild Iris. And on October 8, she became the 16th woman to win the Nobel Prize in literature.

Often said to be an autobiographical(自传体的)poet, drawing from the inner parts of her life, “Gluck is not to be regarded as a self-reflecting poet. she seeks the universal,” Nobel Committee Chair Anders Olsson said in a statement. Gluck, 77, the author of 12 poetry collections, has been able to tum her life experiences into universal themes covering death, loss, and isolation. Because of this, readers have often found her poetry to be “dark”.

However, there is much more than darkness in her voice, as noted by Olsson. “It is straightforward and… also a voice full of humor and insight,” said Olsson. In her poem Snowdrops, Gluck uses the coming of spring after winter to show rebirth of life after death. She leads readers down a depressing path only to reconnect with the light at the near end. At the conclusion of the poem, readers are left to feel the “raw wind of the new world” as they watch a new spring. This is often the case in Gluck’s poetry, being able to feel joy even after not having done so for a long time.

Although she’s already a well-known writer, experienced in exploring trauma(创伤)and healing, Gluck did feel honored to be given the Nobel award. However, when asked what the prize means to her, the lyric poet responded by saying, “It’s too new… I don’t know really what it means. My only hope is to preserve my daily life.”

1What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A.Combining daily life with literature.

B.Making individual existence universal.

A.display the process of Gluck’s writing

B.interpret what a poem can bring about

D.show how Cluck keeps her own style

3What can be inferred about Cluck from the last paragraph?

A.She is self-centered. B.She is well-mannered.

C.She seeks for truth of life. D.She has a low-key attitude.

4What is the text mainly about?

A.A woman’s fight for fame. B.A famous poet’s career.

C.What hard work can do. D.How a poet was shaped.

28、The introduction of the iPad,with its touch screen technology, has allowed even very young children to take advantage of a computer. So what if all children in a school were given an iPad to use in class and take home with them?

Anne Laure Bazin works in a school where every child, teacher and teaching assistant is given a free iPad to use in and out of lessons. For her,the main advantage of everyone having an iPad had been the improvement in communication.Documents can be emailed straight over to workmates during a meeting.Children submit their homework by email,or through the school’s learning environment.Teachers now take the register(点名)using their iPad,which means that there is a record of which children are in school, and which classroom they are in.

The use of iPad has encouraged greater sharing of resources among teacher. All communication with parents is now done by email.Working as a group in class is much easier as children can share documents. The whole class can look at one child’s work by attaching(连接)the iPad to the whiteboard. If a child has forgotten the textbook, the teacher can take a photograph of the relevant(相关的)page and send it to the student in class.

While the use of the iPad in schools has revolutionized(变革)the way children are taught ,it hasn’t completely replaced more traditional methods of teaching .Worksheets are still used in class as some children prefer the contact with paper. The children all have a textbook and exercise books. In Anne Laure’s school, parents feared that the iPads would replace exercise books and children would lose handwriting skills.Anne Laure says,” The teacher are not ready to let go of the traditional style of teaching. We have welcomed the iPads in so much as they help communication and widen the resources available but we are not ready to let go of paper yet.The children themselves still value their exercise books and depend on them for review.”

五、书面表达(共1题,共 5分)

32、根据材料内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,构成一篇完整的短文。

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid named Kyle from my class walking home from school with all of his books. I thought to myself, “Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Thursday? He must really be a nerd (书呆子).” Thinking of a football game with my friend the next day, I shrugged (耸肩) my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and he fell down in the dirt. His glasses went flying and landed in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him. So, I rushed towards the kids shouting “Hey! Leave him alone!”

I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw tears in his eyes. As I handed him his glasses, I said, “They shouldn’t have done that.” He looked at me and said, “Hey, thanks!” There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me. We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play football on Saturday with me and my friends. He said yes. We hung all that weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. Graduation day was around the corner. As the top student of our class, Kyle was to deliver a speech on the graduation day. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I patted him on the back and said, “Hey, don’t worry. You’ll be great!” He looked at me and smiled. I knew that we would always be friends.
