六、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、Dear Simon,

I am glad to know that you have joined your school reading club. I enjoy reading, too. I want to introduce to you my favorite novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (《查理和巧克力工厂》).

The novel tells the story of a boy named Charlie Bucket and his adventures (冒险经历) in Mr. Wonka's chocolate factory. The Bucket family is very poor. Charlie loves Wonka chocolate bars. But he only receives one chocolate bar a year on his birthday.

One day, Mr. Wonka decides to open up his factory to five lucky children. They can find golden tickets in their Wonka chocolate bars. On his birthday, Charlie's family all hope that his chocolate bar will contain a golden ticket. But sadly, it doesn't. Three days later, Charlie finds a coin on the ground. He buys some chocolate bars with it. To his great surprise, he finds a golden ticket!

Charlie goes to the factory with his grandfather. It is an amazing place. There is even a chocolate river! One by one, the other four children on the tour cause trouble. They are all taken away. Charlie is the only child who doesn't cause any trouble. Mr. Wonka tells him that he wins the contest.

Do you know what Charlie wins? You will find the answer in the novel. Do share your feelings about the story with me when you finish reading it. I'm looking forward to your reply. I hope you will like this novel.

With love,

Carl

23、   Playing is serious business for children. In fact , it's what they do best! Ask them why they do it! and kids will probably say, "Because it's fun." But it's much more than that. It's also good for them.

Studies shows that from birth babies begin learning through play. They use their five senses to get to know their new world. Brightly coloured toys and the clothing help develop a baby's sense(感觉) of sight.

Children love toys that allow them to use their imagination(想象).Sometimes an empty box is more fun than a high-tech(高技术)toy. That's because a box can become anything a child imagines it to be.

24、Qi Haoran, a Junior student, was quite busy over the past winter vacation  and not just with his homework. Qi, together with other classmates made a volunteer group to call on people to join the Clean Your Plate Campaign (光盘行动). The students went to many restaurants and told people the importance of saving food. "Excuse me, do you know that nine million people around the world still haven't got enough to eat? Could you please not waste food?" They would say this kind of thing hundreds of times every day.

China in recent years has experienced serious problems with wasted food. CCTV reported in January that the food Chinese people waste every year is enough to feed 20 million people for a year. It's a tradition that Chinese people offer lots of food when they invite others to dinner. Many even feel that they will lose face iftheir guests have eaten all their foods

People can enjoy a free meal when they have ten stickers. More than seven restaurants in Beijing have begun to offer smaller dishes and encourage their guests to take leftovers (剩饭剩菜) home.

Wasting food is a serious problem around the world, not only in China. It's said that two billion tons () of food ends up as waste every year. This is as much as half of all the food in the world. The UN Environment Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization held a "Think, Eat, Save" programme on 2 January to help reduce food waste.
