一、翻译题(共1题,共 5分)

1、I think it is important for children to learn how to do chores and help their parents with housework. It is not enough to just get good grades at school. 61Children these days depend on their parents too much. They are always asking, 62“你能给我拿一下这个吗?or “Could you help me with that?” Doing chores helps to develop children’s independence and teaches them how to look after themselves. 63It also helps them to understand the idea of fairness. Since they live in one house with their parents, they should know that everyone should do their part in keeping it clean and tidy. Our neighbors’son got into a good college but during his first year,64他不知道怎样照顾自己.As a result, he often fell ill and his grades dropped.65.The earlier kids learn to be independent, the better it is for their future.

四、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

24、   Breakfast is food for the brain. And it’s good even for people worrying about their weight. Middle school students who eat breakfast are more likely to have healthy weight than those who don’t eat breakfast. This is true even for students who eat two breakfasts one at home and one at school. “Not skipping(跳过) breakfast helps you not overeat later in the day,” says Marlene Schwartz.

One study has found many kids end up eating two breakfasts. People become worried that kids who eat breakfast both at home and at school might become overweight. In fact, Schwartz now says that’s not what her data(数据) have turned up.

Her group studied 600 middle school students. Over three years, students from 12 different schools were asked about their breakfast. About 34 to 44 percent of all students said they usually ate breakfast at home. Almost one in every six kids usually ate breakfast at school. About one in every 10 kids ate breakfast both at home and at school. Eating habits changed as the kids got older. For example, fifth graders were more likely to eat breakfast. But 22 percent of the seventh graders often didn’t eat breakfast. Surprisingly, at every age, kids who ate breakfast were less likely to be overweight. This was true even for those who ate breakfast at home and at school.

The study found no evidence(证据) of greater weight gain among students who ate double breakfasts.

Why should eating two breakfasts not lead to weight gain? The researchers don’t know yet. But one explanation may be that school breakfast is very healthy and controlled in size. So eating that along with the home breakfast may not be bad for most active and growing middle school students.

1According to Paragraph 1, why do some people NOT want to eat breakfast?

A.Because they are worried about putting on weight.

B.Because they don’t consider it to be important.

C.Because they are tired of eating breakfast at school.

D.Because they don’t have time to eat breakfast.

2Among 600 students that were studied, we can find that ___________.

A.most kids ate breakfast at school B.the kids eating breakfast twice were getting fat

C.more than half of the students didn’t eat breakfast D.seventh graders skipped breakfast more often than fifth graders

3What does Schwartz think about eating two breakfasts?

A.All the girls should stop doing it. B.It can be good for most teenagers.

C.We should try our best to eat a second breakfast. D.Eating two breakfasts is just right for the boys.

4What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.Eating breakfast twice will make people put on weight.

B.Giving up breakfast is more likely to help lose weight.

C.Having two breakfasts has little to do with being overweight.

D.Having breakfast at home can make kids stay healthy and thin.

25、   During the summer holiday, some students might have been busy with traveling, summer camps and all kinds of courses, but a special group of Chinese middle school students decided to taste the hardship of life outside school.

Twelve students in a big city sold vegetables at a local market together. Within 12 days, they made more than 1,500 yuan. Among them, the oldest is 21 years old, while the youngest is just 10. They are all cousins in a big family and eight of them are from rural areas. "Compared to traveling, such social practice connects us and makes us learn how tough our parents are," said Dalin, 18, to the City Morning Post. Dalin, a senior high graduate, and her 12-year old brother Xiaolin came up with the idea.

They learned to work hard to sell their veggies. Every morning they had to wake up at 3 o'clock. Some of them went to the farmer's market to buy vegetables. Some of them went to the local market to take up a temporary stall (临时摊位). To lower the cost, they learned to bargain (讲价) with the sellers. At about 16:30, they began to sell vegetables. They peddled (吆喝) loudly to attract (吸引) customers. After several days, they got some experience, too. For example, it was better to put vegetables in order and bigger ones on top. When the vegetables are too heavy, they should give customers an extra plastic bag.

When they finally packed up and went home, they had a small meeting. Everyone took notes and shared their feelings. "We are tired," said Dalin, "but we gained a lot."

27、   What’s going to happen in the future? Will robots control our planet? Will computers become smarter than us? Not likely. But here are some things that scientists say are most likely to happen in 10—30 years from now, according to the BBC.

Bionic(仿生的)eyes

They are no longer something only in a science fiction movie. People who are blind may have a chance to see things clearly—by wearing bionic eyes.

A blind eye can no longer sense light, but a bionic eye can use a camera to “see” the environment and send information to the mind. Now the bionic eye only allows patients to see lights and unclear shapes. A bionic eye with very clear pictures could be just in a few years away.

Digital money

We used to pay with cash for everything we bought. Now when we use a Wechat Pay or Alipay to shop, money is spent without us seeing it. That means we are already using digital money. People only need to take a mobile phone wherever they go. Using these ways is much easier than searching our pockets for change. It is also safer than carrying a lot of cash.

It’s reported that people in Sweden completely stopped using cash last year, and the US might be next.

Self—driving cars

Unlike a human driver, a self—driving car won’t be influenced by a phone call, the radio or something outside the window. Sensors(探测器)and cameras on the car would allow it to follow the rules of the road and keep a safe space from other cars. This would greatly make the number of road accidents smaller. You could even take a rest while the car drives itself. In the future, driverless cars would be widely accepted.
