四、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

24、Fan Shenghua, 60, is one of the inheritors (传承人) of the Xihu Longjing tea roasting technique (炒制技艺). His palms tell you everything — they’re thick, rough, and full of calluses (老茧); they are a reminder of more than 40 years of hard work.

“You have to touch the leaves with your hands to see how much water should be left,” Fan said. “If there is not enough water, the leaves will break into pieces; if there is too much water, the tea will taste bitter (苦涩的).”

This traditional technique dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. It not only makes sure the tea is good, but is also an important part of Chinese tea culture. “Longjing tea leaves are famous for their color, taste and shape. Only by hand can we make the best of them. It’s like making a work of art,” Fan said.

These days, however, more people are using machines to do the job. “It’s easier, but the quality is not as good,” Fan said. “Machine-made tea floats (漂浮) longer in water and tastes bitter.”

In March, 2020, when President Xi Jinping visited Hangzhou, he watched Fan roast tea leaves. Fan changed the strength and movement of his hands as he felt the tea leaves roasting. President Xi Jinping later said, “The things made by two palms cannot be replaced by modern technology.”

Fan is now training apprentices (学徒). His son, a 27-year-old college graduate, is one of them. “It’s a tradition. We need to pass it down,” said the father.

【1】What does “This traditional technique” refer to?

A.Picking tea leaves.

B.A traditional way of drinking tea.

C.Roasting tea leaves by hand.

D.Using machines to heat tea leaves.

【2】According to Fan, what will happen to tea leaves if they have too much water?

A.They will go bad quickly.

B.They will break into pieces.

C.They will lose their fresh taste.

D.They will have a bitter taste.

【3】What does Fan think of roasting tea leaves with machines?

A.It cannot ensure the quality of the tea.

B.It makes tea leaves heavier.

C.It doesn’t save any energy.

D.It costs more money.

【4】What do we know from the last paragraph?

A.Fan will open his own school.

B.Fan’s son studied tea culture in college.

C.Fan’s son is learning how to roast tea leaves by hand.

D.Fan is making this technique popular worldwide.

25、①“Class, this is John Evans,” Mrs. Parmele introduced him to us, trying to give him a warm welcome. We saw a boy in old clothes. John looked around and smiled, hoping somebody would smile back. Nobody did. He kept on smiling anyway. I held my breath as Mrs. Parmele looked around the classroom, hoping she wouldn’t notice the empty desk next to mine. She did, and pointed him at that desk. He looked over at me as he sat down, but I looked away.

②By the end of his first week, John was at the bottom of our class. I told my mother one evening at dinner, “He even doesn’t know how to count.” However, as I ate lunch with him the next day and listened to him, I realized that it was pleasant to be with him. After lunch, I decided that I would be John’s friend.

③One night, as Mother came into my bedroom, I said, “Mom, tomorrow is John’s birthday, and he’s not going to get anything. Nobody cares.” “Don’t worry,” Mom said as she kissed me goodnight. “I’m sure everything will be fine.”

④I wished John a happy birthday in the morning, and his smile showed me that he was glad I had remembered. By mid-afternoon I had almost decided that birthdays weren’t that important. Then, as Mrs. Parmele was writing on the blackboard, I heard a familiar (熟悉的) voice singing the birthday song. I looked up and saw Mother coming through the door with a tray (托盘) of cupcakes and a present in her hand. Mrs. Parmele also joined in. They put the cupcakes and the gift on John’s desk and said, “Happy birthday, John.” John stood there with his mouth open, unable to believe what was happening. While John happily shared his cupcakes with the class, taking the tray from desk to desk, I caught Mother watching me and she smiled.

⑤John Evans moved away soon, and I never heard from him again. But I always remember the happiness in a boy’s eyes, and the taste of the sweetest cupcake.

【1】Why did the writer hold his breath after Mrs. Parmele introduced John?

A.Because he hoped to make friends with John.

B.Because he didn’t want John to sit next to him.

C.Because he refused to help John with his schoolwork.

D.Because he wanted to know why John kept on smiling.

【2】It can be inferred from Para.4 that ________.

A.John had forgotten his own birthday

B.the writer felt birthdays not important at all

C.Mom wanted John to feel loved and cared about

D.John’s classmates held a big birthday party for him

【3】The passage is mainly about ________.

A.a long lost teacher of the writer’s

C.how friends helped each other at school

D.how a good teacher influenced her students

26、   It is reported rhino horns are big business. Traditional Chinese medicine uses them to treat illnesses. A kilogram can be sold as much as horn $60,000.As a result, almost all rhino populations are in danger. In order to solve the serious problems, a good way to relieve pressure on the animals might be to fill the market with fakes(仿造品),so rhinos may have a chance to stay alive.

That would need the fakes to be good. But Fritz Vollrath, a zoologist at Oxford University and his partners from Fudan University have come up with a cheap and easy-to-make fake horn that is very similar to the real thing.

The main material of Dr. Vollrath's fake horn is horsehair. Although horses and rhinos look different, they are closely related. Horses do not have horns, of course, but neither do rhinos. The "horns" of rhinos are not made of bones but hairs. The hairs are tied tightly together by a mixture of dead cells. Examinations under a microscope showed that hairs from horses' tails are similar to those in the horns of rhinos.

So how can a fake rhino horn be made? First, find out the right materials. Second, a proper glue should be used. Dr. Vollrath and his partners get a special kind of glue. It is naturally produced by spiders and silkworms. Third, the glued horn is put in an oven to dry. At last, after some polishing, the fake horn looks just like a real one.

DNA would certainly tell the fakes but people's eyes are not able to tell the differences. So by making fake horns, people may help save more rhinos.

1Rhino populations are in danger because____________.

A.they become seriously ill B.rhinos have a lot of pressure

C.fake rhino horns may fool people D.rhino horns can be sold at a good price

4There are ____________steps to make a fake rhino horn according to the passage.

A.three B.four C.five D.six

5The writer's opinion about the fake rhino horns is that

A.people have to make fake rhino horns to save rhinos.

B.it's expensive and difficult to make the fake rhino horns.

C.people make the fake rhino horns to make lots of money.

D.the fake rhino horns are completely the same as the real ones.

27、   Want to say “hello” to the persons you love? Send a postcard! Beautiful scenes, wild animals, silly pictures—you can find them all in one place. Where? On a postcard.

Have people always sent postcards? No. Before postcards, people liked to send sealed (密封的) letters. The idea for the first decorated postcard appeared in 1861. Sending a simple postcard with decorations would be a great way to send a note. Then in the early days, postcards with pictures appeared. According to the law, people had to write their notes on the front—on the picture! The back was only for the address. Several years later, England allowed a divided-back postcard. Then people could write their notes on the back left side and put the address on the right, the front is for pictures. During the early 1900s, the golden age of postcards, picture postcards became popular around the world. In 1908, Americans alone sent over 677 million postcards. Today, postcards are the third most popular collection in the world after stamps and coins. And more and more people send emails to their loved ones on Internet.
