24、A new font(字体)designed by a Finnish software company could make your writing more polite. And hopefully it could help reduce cyberbullying(网络暴力).
Polite Type, developed by TietoEVRY, replaces(代替)harmful language with nicer words. For example, if you type “You are ugly,” it will be replaced with “You are not traditionally beautiful.”
“We want bullies(欺凌者)to rethink the words they use and the influence of the words on others,” said the company manager Kia Haring.
The problem of cyberbullying has been around since the Internet was invented. Nearly everyone who has used the Internet has experienced it.
Polite Type is a good step in the right direction. But how do we really deal with cyberbullying? For one, we can choose to be “invisible(隐形的)”. That is, to surf the Internet without making any personal details or leaving any reviews. This, however, forces us to give up our right to “exist(存在)” online.
We can also choose not to care about bullies. However, this isn’t perfect either, as it can be hard to forget people who are especially cruel(残酷的).
A better way is to block(拦截)and report. If you block someone on social media, they won’t see or make reviews on your posts. Most websites have rules against harmful language. If you report a bully to the website, they will often stop that person from using it. It’s best to take direct action like this.
【1】What is Polite Type?
A.A kind of cyberbullying.
B.A Finnish software company.
C.A font that can rewrite harmful language.
D.An organization that deals with bullies.
【2】According to the second paragraph, if you type “I hate you,” it will be replaced with ________.
A.You are too silly
B.You are as good as a pig
C.I disagree with you
D.You are born foolish
【3】What does the company manager Kia Haring mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Bullies often have good influence on others.
B.Bullies often use polite words to chat online.
C.Bullies should rethink what they are doing.
D.Bullies should express their opinions clearly.
【4】What are the last three paragraphs about?
A.How cyberbullying influences our life.
B.What we can do to deal with cyberbullying.
C.How Polite Type can protect us from bullying.
D.What rules websites should make to stop bullies.
【5】What does the writer think is the best way to deal with cyberbullying?
A.To use Polite Type.
B.To leave no reviews.
C.To care little about bullies.
D.To block and report a bully.
25、
Tramper could feel the stony road through the holes in his shoes. A newspaper blew by. He picked it up and sat down to cover the holes in his shoes with the paper.
A weak old lady stared at him. “You think you have shoe troubles?” she said. “The king has 12 girls and all of them have holes in their slippers?”
The old lady’s feet were bare (光脚的), cut and purple from the cold. Tramper felt sorry for her, so he gave her his shoes. To thank him, she gave Tramper her dirty cloak (斗篷) . As she walked away down the road, she called: “Stay awake. Drink no drop. Taste no cup.”
“A strange way to say goodbye,” thought Tramper.
It rained. Tramper put on the cloak and tried to read what was left of the wet newspaper. As it fell apart in his hands he read:
PALACE NOTICE
WANTED: Answer to the Mystery of the Worn Slippers.
REWARD: Princess’ hand in marriage.
SNAG: All those who fail will be locked up.
“Why not?” thought Tramper. “I bet I could solve the mystery. I’ve got nothing to lose. I don’t even have any shoes.” And, when he looked down his feet were gone, then his legs and body too. He was invisible. “The cloak is magic.” he said.
The King’s 12 daughters were a mystery. Each night they took off their silk slippers and went to bed. But each morning their silk slippers were full of holes, and the girls were worn out. How could it happen? The girls’ bedroom door was locked, so they could not get out.

26、It was my first year teaching in a special needs classroom and I wasn’t sure what to expect at our school sports meet. My students faced a lot of challenges, from mild learning disabilities (轻度学习障碍) to cerebral palsy (脑瘫).
Mark was one of the latter. He had to get around in a wheelchair. But he always had a positive attitude (积极态度) and greeted everyone with a huge smile.
His classmates loved him, especially Mike, Andy and Lucas, three boys who were good at sports. I knew Mark wanted to be like them.
When track and field (田径运动) day came, Mike, Andy and Lucas did a good job, giving the crowd something to cheer about. Mark sat on the sidelines (边线), cheering them on.
The final event of the day was the 400-metre race. Everyone was invited to either walk or run. We watched as they took off. Mike, Andy and Lucas all wanted to prove who the better athlete was.
But when the three reached the finish line, they stopped and turned to look behind them. At the back of the crowd was Mark. He was alone on the track with over half the distance left.
Mike, Andy and Lucas looked at one another, and a silent thought passed among them. Slowly, they ran back toward their friend. They formed a circle around Mark and kept pace, cheering him on as he had done for them before.
In the end, the four crossed the finish line together to the excited shouts of their teachers and classmates. Seeing the look on Mark’s face, I came to understand what makes the Special Olympics so special. Everyone deserves (值得) their own time to shine.

27、Have you ever heard of ewaste(电子垃圾), which can be produced every day? How do you deal with your computers, MP4 players and mobile phones when they're broken or you want a new one?
Most people just throw them away. With the development of electronic industry (电子产业), ewaste pollution has become a serious problem. According to the United Nations, in 2014, people around the world produced 41.8 million tons of ewaste and only recycled 6.5 million tons. The US was the biggest waster, producing 7.1 million tons. China came second, with 6 million tons.
It's important to pay attention to ewaste. It can either be valuable or harmful, depending on how we deal with it. Ewaste is a valuable urban mine(城市矿藏). The value of the metals, like gold and silver in the waste around the world, is surprising. And the metals can be reused. But if people throw them away, the toxic chemicals(有毒化学物质) can get into the earth or air, affecting the environment and people's health.
Apple, for example, now recycles people's used products in China when they are buying new ones. The company will test and repair the used ones and sell them at lower prices. To help reduce ewaste, we can also take computers and phones to see if companies offer recycling programmes.
