21、   Do you love swimming? How about riding a bike? Does running make you happy? Have you ever combined (混合) the three activities into one race? If you have, then you know all about the triathlon (铁人三项).

In February 1974, a group of sports officials gathered in a bar in the Hawaiian Islands to argue: which sports in the world is the most exciting and challenging to test a person's will and strength? Some said it was football, some said it was swimming across the sea, and some said it was long-distance cycling, mountaineering marathons and so on. They expressed their opinions and argued. In the end, Brigadier General John Collins said: who can swim 3.8 kilometers in the rough (风大浪急的) sea in one day, ride a bicycle 180 kilometers around the island, and finally run the 42.195 kilometers Honolulu Marathon. Collins's idea was supported by everyone, so 15 people took part in the game the next day, including one female player. As a result, the race was completed. Such a new type of sports was born in this adventurous situation.

After the birth of the Triathlon in Hawaii, it was at first popular only in Hawaii and California, and gradually spread widely in Australia, New, Zealand, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, and China. A triathlon involves three activities. They are swimming, cycling and running. Competitors (比赛者) race in order as one continuous (连续的) event without resting.

24、   Many ordinary people ranging from volunteers to media workers have dedicated (奉献) themselves to fighting the novel coronavirus. They prove that ordinary people can still do their part during difficult times.
