六、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、   “Make-A-Wish” is one of the world’s most well-known charities(慈善机构). It makes wishes come true for children who have serious illnesses. It gives them hope and joy and helps them forget about their health problems and have fun.

It all started in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. Christopher was a 7-year-old boy who was very sick. He always dreamed of becoming a police officer. Tommy Austin and Ron Cox, two police officers, made his wish come true. They gave Christopher a tour of the city in a police helicopter(直升机) and made a real police uniform(制服) for him.

There are four kinds of wishes children usually have:

I wish to go. Children usually want to travel or go to a concert, a game or a park.

I wish to meet. Children sometimes want to meet their favorite actors, singers or players.

I wish to be. Some children wish to become actors, singers or police officers.

I wish to have. They often want to have a computer, a game, a bike or many other things.

Let’s hope more wishes will come true in the future. People who work in the charity always try for the best. Almost 25,000 volunteers(志愿者) help, work or give money. Will you be one of them?

A.They gave him a computer.

B.They gave him a tour of the city.

C.tell us how Christopher’s wish came true

5Which of the following is true according to the passage?

22、I have a rule for travel-never carry a map. I prefer to ask for direction.

Foreign visitors are often puzzled (困惑的) in Japan because most streets there don’t have names. In Japan, people use landmarks instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers, “Go straight down to the corner. Turn left at the big hotel and go past a fruit market. The post office is across from the bus stop.”

In the country of the American Midwest, usually there are not many landmarks. There are no mountains, so the land is very flat. In many places there are no towns or buildings within miles. Instead of landmarks, people will tell you directions and distances. In Kansas, for example, people will say, “Go north two miles. Turn east, and then go another mile.”

People in Los Angeles, California, have no idea of distance on the map. They measure (测量) distance by telling time. “How far away is the post office?” you ask. “Oh,” they answer, “it’s about five minutes from here.” You say, “Yes, but how many miles away is it?” They don’t know.

People in Mexico never answer “I don’t know.” People in Yucatan think that “I don’t know” is not polite. They usually give an answer, often a wrong one. A visitor can get very, very lost in Yucatan!

One thing will help you everywhere. You might not understand a person’s words, but maybe you can understand his or her body language. He or she will usually turn and then point in the correct direction. Go in that direction, and you may find the post office!

C.A person’s body language can help you understand directions.

D.People in different places always give directions in the same way-they use street names.

When it’s time to donate, you’ll sit in a comfortable chair or lie in bed. A nurse will clean part of your arm and use a needle to get the blood into a plastic bag. Several minutes later, the process is over. The doctor will place a small bandage (绷带) over the needle mark.
