22、   Do you know how to play a game called “Musical Chairs”? It is easy to play and most people enjoy it. All you need are some chairs, some people and some way of making music. You may use a piano or any other musical instrument(音乐乐器), if someone can play it. You may use a tape recorder. You can even use a radio.

Put the chairs in a line. The chairs may be put in twos, back to back. A better way is to have the chairs in one row with each chair facing in the opposite direction to the chair next to it.

The game is easy. When the music starts, the players walk round the chairs. Everyone goes in the same direction, of course, they should walk in time to the music. If the music is fast they should walk quickly. If the music is slow, they should walk slowly.

The person playing music cannot see the people in the game. When the music stops, the players try to sit on the chairs. If a person cannot find a chair to sit on, he drops out. Then, before the music starts again, one chair must be taken away. When the music stops again, one more player will be out.

At last, there will be two players and one chair. The one who sits on the chair when the music stops is the winner.

1If ten people are playing musical chairs, you must begin with _______.

A. nine chairs B. ten chairs C. eleven chairs D. one chair

2Which of the following is not suitable for playing musical chairs?

A. A piano B. A radio C. A tape recorder(录音机) D. A telephone

3The chairs should be put _______.

A. with the desks B. before the winner C. all over the room D. in a line

4When the music starts, the players must _______.

A. run about the room B. get down

C. walk around the chairs D. sit on the chairs

5Which of the following statements is NOT true?

A. The game “Musical Chairs” is not difficult to learn.

B. The last one can sit on the last chair.

C. The one who sits on the chair when the music stops is the winner.

D. If the person plays music, he cannot be the winner

23、Every year on my birthday, from the time I turned 15, a white gardenia(栀子花) was delivered to my house. No card came with it. Calls to the flower shop were not helpful at all. After a while I stopped trying to find out the sender’s name and was just pleased with the beautiful white flower wrapped in soft pink paper.

I never stopped imagining who the giver might be, though. Some of my happiest moments were spent daydreaming about the sender. My mother encouraged these daydreams. She’d ask me if I had been especially kind to someone. Perhaps it was one of my classmates. Perhaps it was the old man who lived across the street. I’d delivered his mails during the winter.

One month before my high school graduation, my father died. I was so sad that I became completely uninterested in my upcoming graduation dance, and I didn’t care whether I had a new dress or not. My mother, in her own sadness, however, would not let me miss any of those things. She wanted her children to feel loved. In fact, my mother wanted her children to see themselves much like the gardenia: lovely, strong and perfect with perhaps a bit of mystery (神秘).

I got married at the age of 25. My mother died ten years after I was married. That was the year the gardenia stopped coming.

Rainforests cover six percent of the Earth’s surface. There are rainforests in many parts of the world but the biggest forests are in South America, Africa and South East Asia. There aren’t any rainforests in Europe or North America.

2.What’s in the rainforests?

About 75% of all the types of animals that we know come from rainforests. Thousands and thousands of animals live in rainforests. There are many very beautiful birds, insects and reptiles. Many of them live in the trees, more than 30 meters from the ground. There are also thousands of different plants—and lots of tall trees! It is always hot in a rainforest and the ground is always wet. It is also dark.

3.Why are the rainforests important?

The rainforests are very important for us. We need them! The trees and other plants in the forest help to make the air that we breathe. They give us wood, rubber, fruits and many of our medicines.

4. ________

Unluckily, in many places, the rainforests are in danger. For example, many years ago there was a large rainforest in Java. There were thousands of different plants and animals in the forest, but now there is nothing. People cut down the trees because they wanted to grow rice. Many animals lived in the rainforest.
