21、I come from the Philippines and I do volunteer work in my city, Manila. Over 100 million children in the world live on streets because they don’t have homes. There is an organization (组织) helping street children to get off streets and to live a normal life, and I am one of the volunteers.
There is a big difference between street children and street working children. Street working children make money by selling things, such as candies and newspapers. After they finish their work, they go home. However, street children have no homes. They live and work on streets. Sometimes they sleep at train stations or in parks. They make a living by asking other people for money or stealing (偷) things.
Here in Manila, our organization found a place and there were lots of street children. We talked to sixty of them and gave them food and other help. Day by day, they began to trust us and we provided places for them to eat and sleep. Most of the kids didn’t want to tell us much information. But when they decided to talk to us about their families and where they came from, we listened carefully.
We also have an education program. If the street children learn skills (技能), it will be easy for them to find jobs. We want them to do something for their lives.

22、Every year, a lot of young people in Britain finish school and then take a year off before they start work or go to university. Some people go to other countries and work as volunteers. Pauline Jones, 18, lives in Cardiff, Wales. Next year she wants to go to a university to study Spanish, but now she is living in Belize, a small country in Central America. Pauline says, “I’m working with other people here to protect the coral reefs (珊瑚礁) in the sea near Belize. The reefs here are beautiful, but if the sea water is polluted, the coral dies. I’m helping to study the coral and the fish that live around the reefs. All over the world, coral reefs are dying. We need to do something about the problem before it’s too late.
“I’m staying with a family here. They are very friendly and I help with the cooking and the cleaning. I don’t get any money, but that’s OK. 23、A Chinese spacecraft called Chang’e-4 made the first soft landing on the far side of the moon at 10:26 a. m. on January 3, 2019. It is the first time that a spacecraft has made it. The far side is the part of the moon that always faces away from the Earth.
After it landed on the ground, the spacecraft took the first photo of the “dark side” of the moon, and sent it back to the Earth through the Queqiao relay satellite(中继卫星). The scientists launched the satellite into space in May, 20l8.
“What we know about the far side of the moon is from orbiters(轨道飞行器), from Russia, the US, European countries, China and India,” Andrew Coates, a professor of Physics at University College London, told a reporter.
China sent Chang’e-4 into space from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in December, 2018. Sending a spacecraft to the far side of the moon isn’t easy, because the far side is covered in craters(环形山). Some of its mountains are higher than Qomolangma, the highest mountain on the Earth.
What’s more, we can’t see the far side because it takes the moon about 28 days to move around the Earth with the same side always facing our planet. Direct communication with the Earth is impossible on the far side of the moon, so communications must go through a communication satellite. That was why scientists launched the Quegiao relay satellite.
【1】What does the underlined word “launched” mean in Chinese?
A.研发
B.改造
C.发射
D.追踪
【2】Why did scientists launch the Queqiao relay satellite?
A.To help Chang’e-4 move around the moon.
B.To get information of other relay satellites.
C.To send pictures of space to scientists on the Earth.
D.To provide a way of communication with the Earth.
【3】What do the last two paragraphs mainly tell us?
A.Why sending a spacecraft to the far side of the moon is difficult.
B.How China sent Chang’e-4 into space from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
C.The differences between the mountains on the Earth and the mountains on the moon.
D.How the moon travels around the Earth with the same side always facing our planet.
【4】What CANNOT we know from the passage?
A.When Chang’e-4 landed on the far side of the moon.
B.How scientists sent the satellite into space.
C.What Chang’e-4 did after landing on the far side of the moon.
D.What people knew about the far side of the moon.
【5】Where does the passage probably come from?
A.A notice.
B.A newspaper.
C.A letter.
D.A diary.
24、As young students, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize; they can also be small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class. Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream real?
Andrew Matews, an Australian writer, tells us that making your dreams real is life’s biggest challenge. You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it’s impossible for you to become a writer. Those kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dream.
In fact, everyone can realize his dream. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don’t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want every day and then your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, made up of many small dreams.
You must also never give up your dream. There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the biggest difficulty comes from you. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will help you to get better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book.
As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn something more useful and find new hobbies.
