六、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、"Mabel, Mabel, strong and able, keep your elbows off the table." I was only 3 or 4 years old when my mom taught me this little rhyme (雅韵诗). She taught it to teach me polite table manners.

I wish learning table manners as an adult were that easy. However, each country has its own table manners and knowing all about them can give you a headache.

For example, knowing how much food to eat can be tricky (复杂的). In China I quickly learned that if I finished all the food, others would invite us to have more. It is polite to leave a bit of food on the dishes. In Finland, however, your host would be troubled if you left any food on your plate.

If you're in America and you do want more food, don't reach across the table for it. That would be considered uncivilized (没有教养的). Instead you need to ask someone to pass you the dish.

What would you do if you walked into a restaurant and all the tables were full? In Germany or China, you might share a table with strangers. People in America, however, like more personal space better. They may think you strange if you sit at their table.

And after your meal, should you leave a tip? In some countries a tip is included in the meal price. In America, you need to leave extra money on the table to thank your server for the service.

Before you travel to a new country, be sure to pick up a good book on culture and customs. Take time to watch how the local people act and imitate them.

1Which of the following countries is NOT mentioned in the passage?

A. China.   B. Finland.   C. Germany.   D. Japan.

2In America, you should___________.

A. ask someone to pass you the dish if you want more food

B. share a table with strangers

C. leave extra money on the table as a tip

D. Both A and C

3When you go to a restaurant full of guests in the US and sit on a seat with a man you

don't know, they will find_________.

A. you are very friendly   B. you are very kind to others

C. you are very strange   D. you are very clever

4What does the underlined word "imitate" in the last paragraph probably mean?

A. To look at someone or something for a long time and not move your eyes.

B. To copy the way someone or something looks, sounds or behaves.

C. To make jokes about.

D. To put something down.

5According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

A. A tip is needed in some countries.

B. It's easy to follow table manners in different countries.

C. Each country has its own table manners.

D. You'd better eat all the food on your plate in Finland.

22、These years people show all kinds of things on the Internet—good food, nice clothes, wonderful vacations and so on. Now showing the number of steps is becoming popular too. Why?

People are finding it important to be in good health. To keep healthy, many people go to work on foot. When they start walking, they open the step counter app in their phones to record how many steps they walk that day. After a day’s walk, some people show the number on WeChat or Weibo. This can make them learn from each other and keep exercising.

“This helps me to exercise much and keep a good habit,” Miss Liu said. “I can also talk about how to keep healthy with my friends on WeChat. We are in the same group to encourage each other to keep exercising.”

Mr. Wu likes to exercise. But in the past he was a little lazy and didn’t want to exercise every day. “After I use the step counter app, everything is different. It’s great to exercise with my friends. Sometimes there are prizes for those who walk more steps. I really like it,” he said.

Walking is a relaxing and useful way to exercise. Both the old and the young like it. Recording the steps helps people develop a good habit of walking and showing the number can make people more interested in walking. But don’t take the number too seriously.

B.It can make people stop driving cars.

C.It can make people develop a good habit.

D.It can make people spend more time playing games on the phone.

23、   When I was about 12, I had an enemy (敌人), a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings (缺点). Week by week her list grew: I was very thin; I wasn’t a good student, I talked too much, I was too proud, and so on. I tried to hear all this as long as I could. At last, I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes.

He listened to me quietly, then he asked. “Are the things she says true or not? Janet, didn’t you ever wonder what you are really like? Well, you now have that girl’s opinion. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark (标记) the points that are true. Pay no attention (注意力) to the other things she said.”

I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I found that about half the things were true. Some of them couldn’t change (like being very thin), but a good number I could-and suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I go to a very clear picture of myself.

I brought the list back to Daddy. He refused to take it. “That’s just for you,” he said. “You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself. But you have to learn to listen, not just close your ears in anger and feeling hurt. When something said about you is true, you’ll find it will be of help to you. Our world is full of people who think they know your duty (职责). Don’t close your ears. Listen to them all, but hear the truth and do what you know is the right thing to do.”

Daddy’s advice returns to me at many important moments. In my life, I’ve never had a better piece of advice.

B.He criticized (批评) her and told her to change all her shortcomings.

C.He told her to write down all her “enemy” said about her and pay attention just to the things that were true.

3Why did the writer feel surprised?

A.Because she could change many of her shortcomings.

B.Because she found that half of the things in the list were true.

C.Because her father refused to take the list.

4We can learn from that passage that ________.

A.the father knows better than anyone else the truth about the writer.

B.the writer could change everything pointed out by the girl.

24、In Jewish (犹太人) history, King Solomon is considered to be the wisest man who ever lived. There are many stories about the wisdom of King Solomon. Here’s one of them.

One day two women came before the King. They carried with them a little baby, which was set down on the floor, at the foot of Solomon’s throne(宝座) .

One of the women said “Five days ago I gave birth to a child. This woman and I live in the same house, and three days later she also gave birth, but that same night her child died, and at midnight she arose and, while I was sleeping, took my son away from me, and laid her dead child in its place. When I awoke in the morning I thought at first that my son was dead, until I realized that it was not my child.”

“No,” interrupted the second woman, “she is lying, my lord, she is lying! The living child is mine and the dead is hers!” “No,” cried the first women, wildly. “No, the dead child is yours, and the living child is mine.”

King Solomon raised his hand for silence. “One of you says ‘my child lives and yours is dead, and the other says ‘your child is dead and my child lives’. There is a simple way to resolve the matter, bring me a sword.”

A sword was brought, and the crowd waited to see what the King would do. “Very well,” he said, “cut the child in half, and give them each half.” The first woman turned pale. She said in a trembling voice. “Give her the child. I beg you, do not kill it.” But the other woman’s face remained hard. “Let it be neither mine nor yours,” she said, “divide it as the King has ordered.” Then Solomon arose, and pointed to the first woman, “The child belongs to her,” he said, “Give her the child, and do not kill it. She is its mother, “Word of this judgment spread throughout Israel, and people marveled (感到惊讶) at the wisdom of the King.

The lesson of this story is rather simple. It is easy to tell the people who really care: they are willing to give up their half in order to keep the whole alive. In short, sometimes insisting on getting your fair share is still a losing strategy.

D.kill all of them

【2】The first woman turned pale because _________.

C.the king wanted to kill her

D.she was the baby’s real mother

【3】Which of the following qualities can not describe King Solomon?

A.Wise.

B.Fair.

C.Admirable

D.Cruel

【4】From the story we can know that _________.

A.we should never give up our fair share

B.sometimes you’ll lose more if you insist on getting your own share

C.don’t ask for things that do not belong to you

D.you’d better give up every time
