六、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、Computers are useful machines. They can help people a lot in their daily life. For example, they can help people to save much time to do much work, and they can help people to work out many problems they can’t do easily. Our country asks everyone to learn to use computers except the old people.

Today more and more families own computers. Parents buy computers for their children. They hope that computers can help them to improve their studies at school. But many of their children use computers to play games and watch videos. For most students, computers can not help them to study better but make them fall behind. So computers are locked in boxes by parents.

In some other countries, even some scientists also hate computers. They say computers let millions of people lose their jobs or bring them a lot of trouble. Will computers really bring trouble to people or can they bring people happiness? It will be decided by people themselves!

We asked about 2,000 people what they would do during the summer vacation. Most of the survey-takers agreed that the summer vacation was a break from homework and they could relax.

Alexis said,“At school,I’m really tired,so during the summer vacation I can read books and do many outdoor activities.”

Amy is in high school. After school, she sometimes works in a cafe. She told us,“It’s a chance to relax after a hard school year—sleep more, and visit my friends more.”

We also asked them if they would be too busy or kind of bored.About half (52%) of the survey-takers said they would be busy during the summer vacation but still have time to relax. And that is exactly how it should be.

But not everyone said their summer vacation would be the right balance(平衡) between being busy and relaxing. Many thought that they would be too bored.

How bored or busy people feel during the summer vacation depends on how old they are.Survey-takers in their early teens were more likely (可能的) to be bored.Among them,40% said they would be bored and only 10% thought they would be too busy.

23、One afternoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet view of the art works.

A young couple viewing the paintings in front of me chatted nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided the wife was doing all the talk. I admired(钦佩) the husband's patience for standing her continuous talk. Distracted(分心) by their noise, I moved on.

I met with them several times as I moved through the different rooms of art. Each time I heard her constant(不变的;持续的) burst of words, I_moved_away_quickly

I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop buying things when the couple came near to the exit. Before they left, the man reached into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He extended(伸展) it into a long stick and then tapped his way into the coatroom to get his wife's jacket.

“He's a brave man.” The clerk at the counter said, “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. During his recovery he made a promise that his life wouldn't change. So, as before, he and his wife come in whenever there's a new art show.”

“But what does he get out of the art” I asked, “He can't see.”

“Can't see? You're wrong. He sees a lot. More than you or I do.” The clerk said, “His wife describes each painting, so he can see it in his head.”

I learned something about patience, courage and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without sight and the courage of a husband who would not allow blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away hand in hand.
