四、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

24、The sleep problem is common around the world, even in the developed countries. Studies in the USA have found that 60 percent of the adults often have sleep problems. Among them, more than 20 percent say that they feel sleepy in the daytime and that makes their lives difficult. At least 40 million people in the USA are facing sleep problems that need to be treated.

Many doctors say sleep can change our health. If we want our bodies to work well, we need sleep. If people don’t have enough sleep, they can forget things easily.

The most obvious(明显的)result of not having enough sleep is to make us weaker and it makes it harder to fight against the illness. In other words, people who do not sleep enough are more likely(可能的).

So what are the things that are important to sleep?Well, firstly, it’s the noise. If there are noises such as barking dogs(滴水的龙头)or loud music, you will probably find it difficult to sleep. What is interesting is that women seem to notice more than men, while young children do not notice noise so much as adults.

If you are sitting on a chair, you will find it very difficult to sleep. But you will probably have no problem falling asleep if you are on a bed. This is another thing that influences sleep. We need to be horizontal(水平的)and we need to have enough space.

A third thing is temperature. You may have noticed that you have difficulty sleeping if it is very hot or cold.

Altitude can change the way we sleep as well. If you are at an altitude of over 4, 000 meters, you need to breathe differently because you don't have as much oxygen(氧气).

All in all, to get a better sleep, you'd better avoid things mentioned above and I strongly advise you to take a warm bath and listen to some light music to relax your body and mind. Most importantly.

After walking into a store, you see that Huawei smartphones are on sale. But you're not in China — you're in Manchester in Britain. In fact, you might see similar things in many other cities. Chinese products have almost reached all parts of the world. Chinese food has been enjoyed in Western countries for a long time. A new standard (标准) for labor (劳动) education recently came out. Students in primary and middle school will have at least one class a week to try and experience different kinds of labor and learn different life skills and even job skills. The standard includes different tasks for each grade. For example, fifth and sixth-graders learn to cook two or three common dishes, like fried eggs or scrambled eggs with tomato (番茄炒蛋).

This move is to enrich Chinese students’ life and build their character through labor. Chinese school education didn’t pay enough attention (重视) to this in the past. According to a 2019 report, Chinese kids only do 12 minutes of practical activity each day, while US kids do 1.2 hours each day, China Daily reported.

六、完型填空(共1题,共 5分)

29、根据短文内容,从A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出一个能填入相应空格内的最佳答案,并把答题卡上对应该题目的答案标号涂黑。

Living and dealing with kids can be a tough (棘手的,难办的) job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be ____ tougher.

If I have learned anything in my last 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree ____ when you get along. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart (疏远). When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not ____ them doesn’t solve anything.

Communication begins with the care about another. Even ____ you just say “Hi,” and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing.

Have you noticed the meaning of the word “communication” in a dictionary? It would say the exchange of ideas ____ of communication: a letter or message. To maintain a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know ____ you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note.

When dealing with parents, you always have to make ____ feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, you'd ask them ____ to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.

This is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home ____ midnight after the fireworks, but she was late getting back. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was ____, they weren’t as mad and let the thing go. Communication was the key factor here.

Communication isn’t a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, telling the other person how you feel-listening is the key factor to communication.
