21、 F1 is a very fast car race. It is one of the most popular sports in the world. The drivers go at over 300 kilometers an hour every race. But F1 cars didn’t always go so fast.
In 1895, the first F1 race began in France. During that race, it took the drivers 48 hours to finish 580 kilometers. In 1901, the best drivers had an average(平均) speed of 100 kilometers an hour. Modern grand prix(奖品) F1 racing began in 1950 in Britain. “Grand prix” is French. It means “large prize”. Today, 12 teams and 24 drivers race to get points. There are races at different tracks(路线) all over the world from March to October every year. There are also F2 and F3 racing. But the cars are slower and less high-tech.
During a F1 race, drivers have to make several stops to change tyres(轮胎) and put more petrol in their cars. A team of people do these tasks together to make the stops short. Some people lift the car up, others change the tyres. While this person works on the tyres, another person puts petrol in the car and a different person cleans the driver’s helmet. One more person talks to the driver about how to win. It’s amazing that all those people finish it in just a few seconds!
During 100-meter races, people count the players’ speed by 1/100th(0. 01) of a second, for example 10.81 seconds. In the world of car racing, however, the race has to be timed to 1/1000th (0. 001) of a second. That is 50 times faster than the time for a blink(眨眼).
F1 cars look very colorful. First, cars of different teams have different colors. Then there are a lot of advertisements on the cars.

A.100 kilometers B.over 300 kilometers

22、 A new series of Chinese Maths textbooks was published in the UK following the success of the previous edition, with an expert saying Chinese Maths textbooks are generally more difficult for UK students. However, new Chinese Maths textbooks teach UK students learning skills.
Yi Ke Yi Lian, or One Lesson, One Exercise, is a series of popular textbooks for primary and junior high schools in Shanghai. For about 20 years, this series has helped students to practice what they have learned in class. This summer, the Maths textbook series was published in the UK.
The British version has 11 volumes (册), as there are 11 grades from primary school to high school in the UK. The publishers cut out part of the content in the Chinese version to go with the curriculum setting (课程安排) there. They also changed some terms (术语) and background knowledge. But the overall difficulty level is the same.
The move follows the British government’s efforts to learn from Shanghai’s Maths teaching methods starting from last year. In the 2012 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA.国际学生评估项目), Shanghai students got the first place on the Maths exam while British students got 24th place.
In September, the British government invited 60 of Shanghai’s top Maths teachers to British schools to share their teaching experience. A number of teachers from the UK also visited Shanghai for experience.
“It seems that the Shanghai teaching methodology (方法) uses resources much more effectively,” said Liz Truss, a government education officer. We have stagnated (停滞) in our Maths performance for the last 15 years, and it’s time for us to learn and apply good practices.”

During the two sessions (两会), Lei Jun, the founder (创始人) of China’s tech company Xiaomi, called for more e-waste recycling (回收利用) plans in China.
According to the 2020 UN Global E-waste Monitor, the world’s e-waste will reach 74.7 million tons by 2030.
The report also found that only 17.4 percent of the world’s e-waste was collected and recycled in 2019. This means that gold, silver, copper (铜) and other high-value materials were mostly burned or throw instead of reused. It’s a waste of 57 billion dollars, or 360 billion yuan. E-waste can also harm the environment and people’s health. For example, one mobile phone battery can pollute 600,000 liters of water.
China is now the world’s largest producer of e-waste, followed by the US, India and Japan, according to the UN report. Tech companies are looking for different ways to solve the problem. For example, US company Apple built a robot called Daisy to take 200 iPhones apart. It can take 200 iPhones apart within an hour. Previously the phones were cut up before people took the useful materials out. Now with Daisy, valuable materials can be pulled out more easily.
Samsung plans to use recycled materials in all of its new products by the year 2025. It also plans to reduce e-waste by improving product life cycles. Xiaomi is also setting up e-waste recycling platforms so that people can donate or sell their old electronics more easily.
