Hi, I’m Yu Bo. Last year, I stayed in the UK for about two months. I found children’s life in the UK is really different from Chinese children’s. They have more free time to 1 their interests. They can choose to do things they like. But it also means that children don’t have to 2 their parents too much. They can take good care of themselves at an early age. At home, children have to learn how to3 such as sweeping the floor and 4 clothes. And they have to help with housework every day. At school, they don’t have much 5. 六、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、   It's important to have positive feelings in our daily life. Compared with some unhappy people, those who are always pleased and relaxed are less likely to get colds, according to a new study. The researchers from New York University said, " Being happy helps the bodies prevent diseases(疾病).

"It seems that positive feelings may reduce the possibility of illness," said the researcher Sheldon Cohen.

In an earlier study, Cohen's team interviewed 193 adults every day for two weeks. In this period, the people told researchers about their happy or sad feelings that day. Two weeks later, all of them were made to catch colds by doctors, and each of them had to stay alone in a room for six days.

The results showed that each in the study was equal to fall ill. But people who were lively and relaxed said they felt happy during the research. Their illnesses were less serious and lasted for shorter time.

Cohen believes that when people have positive feelings, their body may produce a kind of chemical that helps to fight illnesses. So if you care about your health, please look on the bright side and make yourself happy all the time.

根据短文内容,判断正(T)误(F)。

1The people with positive feelings are more likely to suffer from colds.

2Good feelings will make the illness less serious and last shorter.

3The people with bad feelings are sure to get diseases.

4The people in Cohen's study would not stay with other sick people in the same room.

5Positive feelings can make people look on the bright side and make themselves happy.

22、   Money is what people use to buy things they need or want. A long time ago, people didn't use money. So how did they get the things they wanted? Well, there is a long and interesting story about this.

At first, they would exchange something they had for something they needed. For example, if the shoemaker needed some bread, he would give the baker shoes and the baker would give him bread. This was called "bartering". Bartering worked fine for a while. But after the baker had too many shoes, the shoemaker still needed more bread. What could they do? The solution to this problem was money.

Money is basically an agreement among people. People agree that some metal or paper will be worth a certain amount of bread or a certain number of shoes. There were many earlier forms of money, such as cattle, salt, grain(谷物)and shells. But it was not easy to move them or store them.

So coins began to take the place of things. Coins had a set value and could be stored long. A coin says right on it how much it is worth. Different coins are worth different amounts. It became possible for people to trade in a standardized(标准)way.

About three hundred years ago, paper money came into wider use. Paper money is cheaper to make than coins. It is also easier to carry around. Now people use paper money and coins in most countries. We call these kinds of money cash.

Cash has been popular for hundreds of years. But these days, things seem to have changed. Cashless payment(无现金支付)has come into our lives and changed our world.

China was the first country in the world to use paper money. Now, centuries later, analysts(分析家)believe that China may soon become the first cashless society. Cashless payment apps such as Alipay and WeChat Pay are becoming more common in China. The buyer just scans(扫描)the quick-respond code(二维码)of the seller, or the other way around. Then they can get the things they want. No physical money is needed in this process. Is tomorrow already here?

1Which is the correct order of the development of money?

Coins

Bartering

Paper money

Cashless payment

Cattle, grain and shells

A.②⑤①③④ B.⑤③②①④ C.②⑤①④③ D.⑤④③②①

2What can we learn from the passage?

A.Coins are the earliest form of money in the world.

B.People cannot buy things by showing the quick-respond code.

C.Both coins and paper money are very popular around the world.

D.Paper money costs more to make than coins because they are worth more.

3What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph?

A.China is the first cashless country in the world.

B.People will start using cashless payment tomorrow.

C.People won't use any physical money in the future.

D.Cashless payment is the new stage of money development.

23、   “Cleverness is a gift while kindness is a choice. Gifts are easy- they’re given after all. Choices can be hard.” - Jeff Bezos.

I got the idea to start Amazon 16 years ago. I came across the fact that the Internet usage was growing at 2,300 percent per year. I’d never seen or heard of anything that grew that fast, and the idea of building an online bookstore with millions of titles was very exciting to me. I had just turned 30 years old and I’d been married for a year. I told my wife Mackenzie that I wanted to quit my job and go to do this crazy thing that probably wouldn’t work since most start-ups don’t and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Mackenzie told me I should go for it. As a young boy, I’d been a garage inventor. I’d always wanted to be an inventor and she wanted me to follow my passion.

I was working at a financial firm in New York City with a bunch of very smart people, and I had a brilliant boss that I much admired. I went to my boss and told him I wanted to start a company selling books on the Internet. He took me on a long walk in Central Park, listened carefully to me, and finally said “That sounds like a really good idea, but it would be an even better idea for someone who didn’t already have a good job.” That logic made some sense to me, and he persuaded me to think about it for 48 hours before making a final decision. Seen in that light, it really was a difficult choice, but finally, I decided I had to give it a shot. I didn’t think I’d regret trying and failing. And I believed I would always be haunted(萦绕) by a decision to not try at all.

After much consideration, I took the less safe path to follow my passion, and I’m proud of that choice. For all of us, in the end, we are our choices.

1What inspired the author with the idea of building an online bookstore?

A.The desire to follow his passion. B.The strong support of his wife.

C.The increasing usage of the Internet. D.A bookstore with millions of exciting titles.

2What was the author’s situation before starting Amazon?

A.He was a garage inventor. B.He was in search of a good job.

C.He was more than thirty years old. D.He was satisfied with his working condition.

3Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined phrase in Para.3?

A.Try to do it. B.Guess it.

C.Take a picture. D.Do quickly.

4What can we know about the author from the passage?

A.He got approval(批准) from his boss. B.He wanted someone else to try the idea.

C.He might not regret if he failed the idea. D.He might go back to his boss if he failed.

5Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A.Cleverness and Kindness B.The Starting of Amazon

C.Following My Passion D.We Are What We Choose
