21、It has been suggested that body language consists more than 60% of what we communicate. 【1】 . Below are tips to help you learn how to read body language and better understand the people you interact with.
Study the Eyes
【2】 . When communicating with someone, pay attention to whether he or she makes direct eye contact or looks away. Inability to make direct eve contact can indicate boredom, disinterest, or even deceit-especially when someone looks away and to the side. If a person looks down, on the other hand, it often indicates nervousness or submissiveness. A person' s blinking rate can also speak volumes about what is going on internally. 【3】 . In some cases, increased blinking rate indicates lying-especially when accompanied by touching the face(particularly the mouth and eyes).
Gaze at the Face-Body Language Touching Mouth or Smiling
Although people are more likely to control their facial expression, you can still pick up on important nonverbal cues if you pay close attention. 【4】 . There are different types of smiles, including genuine smiles and fake smiles. A genuine smile engages the whole face, whereas a fake smile only uses the mouth.
Pay attention to proximity
Proximity is the distance between you and the other person. 【5】 . Standing or sitting in close proximity to someone is perhaps one of the best indicators of rapport(融洽). On the other hand, if someone backs up or moves away when you move in closer, this could be a sign that the connection is not mutual.
A.Eye behavior can be very telling.
B.Smiling is an important nonverbal cue to watch for.
C.Everybody will smile when they feel happy at any time.
D.So learning to read the nonverbal cues people send is a valuable skill.
E.Blinking rate increases when people are thinking more or are stressed
F.Eye contact shows that a person is interested in what you are talking about.
G.You can tell a lot about the type of relationship two people have just by observing the proximity between them.
22、On the day the tornado hit, there was no indication severe weather was on its way—the sky was blue and the sun had been out. The first alert my husband, Jimmy, 67, and I, 65, got came around 9 p.m., from some scrolling text on the TV Jimmy was watching. He ran upstairs to find me in our third-floor bedroom, and we changed the channel from the presidential primary debate I had been watching to our local Pensacola, Florida, station.
No sooner had we found coverage of the tornado than it was on top of us. Suddenly, the bones of the house shook, the power went out, and the wind began to roar through blown-out windows. We had three flights of steps to navigate to the relative safety of the first floor, where a closet fixed underneath a brick staircase might be the firmest place to wait things out. Everything around rattling, we struggled forward, uncertain whether we would make it.
As we reached the last flight of steps, our front door blew out. Shards of glass flew everywhere. A three-foot-long tree branch whipped, missing us by inches.
By the time I reached the closet, the tornado had been over us for about a minute. Jimmy pushed me down to the closet floor, but the wind kept him outside. I grasped his arm as the tornado constantly sucked the door open and tried to bring him with it. My knees and scalp were full of glass, but I felt no pain. If I had let go, Jimmy would have flown right out the back of the house and into the bay. Then everything stopped. In those first quiet moments, I couldn’t believe it was over.
The storm lasted four minutes. Four of the twelve town houses in our unit were completely destroyed. Of the houses left standing, ours suffered the most damage. Amazingly, none of us were severely injured.

23、Prateek Sharma was born into a family of farmers. After 10 years of being a chief manager of Kotak Mahindra Bank, he did a good job and earned a good pay. But Prateek couldn’t continue the corporation life with ease, as his heart was always in farming. So he worked as a banker on weekdays and on weekends travelled 100 km to get to his 5-acre in Dhaba Khurd.
By the end of 2015, Prateek had set up a house or his farm to grow off-season vegetables. Prateek thought he’d quit his job once he was able to earn enough from farming, but this wasn’t an easy decision to make. This was because costs to grow these vegetables were very high, along with the fact that farmers weren’t a part of the value chain and thus couldn’t decide the price of their own vegetables.
Fortunately, Prateek met Vinay Yadav, another educated farmer. They then decided to start their own value chain and sell their vegetables and grains, while skipping the middlemen. The variety of vegetables they grew wasn’t enough, so they decided to form a group of farmers.
Once the plan was ready, the group was registered by the name of Farmer Producer Organization (FPO). However, the trial failed in the first year as most of the farmers were grain growers and had limited knowledge of growing vegetables. However, the largest reason was the switch to organic from chemical.
Luckily, once the soil was used to organic methods, the next round of crops were successful and the FPO had a good amount of produce. So at the end of 2017. Prateek finally quit his job and devoted all his time to farming. Now he’s successful and recently his team has started two farmer resource centers at Dhaba Khurd and Xathrula Canj.
【1】Why did Prateek have trouble continuing his life as a banker?
A.He felt it so boring to be a banker.
B.He almost never satisfied his boss.
C.He found farming easier to do well.
D.He was enthusiastic about farming.
【2】Why was it difficult for Prateek to decide on quitting in his job?
A.The prices of organic products were low.
B.The income from farming wasn’t much.
C.He had no money to put into farming.
D.He found farming produce hard to sell.
【3】What did Prateek and VinayYadav set about doing after they met?
A.Building their own marketing system.
B.Raising the prices of their products.
C.Switching from chemical to organic.
D.Adding the kinds of vegetables grown.
【4】What mainly resulted in the failure of FPO’s first-year trial?
A.Their no experience in growing vegetables.
B.Their poor management on the employees.
C.The soil is not suitable for organic farming.
D.The wrong ways of doing organic farming.
24、 At a time when industries are under greater pressure to reduce costs and increase efficiencies, more production facilities are turning to digital sensing technology to provide the real-time insights they need for improved performance. What if one digital sensor could measure multiple signals?
Yokogawa’s Dpharp(差压传送器) digital technology has the unique ability to measure two pressure parameters, delivering reliable and accurate measurement of plant operations. The unique aspect of this digital technology is that it measures two parameters in one sensor module, providing additional insight into a plant's operations. It is the only sensor in the world that does this.
DPharp transmitters use silicon resonant sensor technology to measure both differential and still pressure. The sensor consists of two H-shaped crystal silicon resonators that shake at a certain frequency and, when pressure is applied, the frequency of one resonator increases while the other decreases. By monitoring these frequencies digitally, both differential and still pressure can be measured at the same time. The frequency output is directly read by the central processing unit of the transmitter.
DPharp can be used in any processing plant across any industry—from oil and gas to food and drinks. DPharp’s unique digital sensing technology allows engineering firms and plant engineers to create designs that will equate to an average reduction of 40 percent. Where they would typically use five measuring devices, they are using three by using the multi-sensing technology. That is a significant cost reduction in the number of devices installed and the added benefit is that, as there are less devices, the engineering and design is less complex, which means less materials and less equipment to maintain. Furthermore, there are fewer transmitter spares required, which reduces costs. Tony Farah, Product Manager, said that more organisations are seeing the significant benefits of smart devices like DPharp.
【1】What is special about DPharp digital technology?
A.It provides the real-time insights.
B.It brings significant changes in engineering.
C.It measures two parameters in one sensor.
D.It provides accurate measurement.
【2】What is the frequency output read by?
A.Two H-shaped crystal silicon resonators.
B.The central processing unit of the transmitter.
C.Monitoring devices.
D.The operator of the plant.
【3】What is the plants’ attitude to DPharp?
A.Cautious.
B.Skeptical.
C.Favorable.
D.Disapproving.
【4】What is the text mainly about?
A.How DPharp is bringing value across production plants.
B.How sensor works in a different way.
C.Why DPharp is efficient and reliable.
D.Where DPharp can be used.
