二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、As scientists in the Netherlands tried to figure out how to build a super flying robot, they learned from one of nature s flyers: the humble fruit fly(果蝇).And by building this robot, they’ve gained new insights into how the fly carries out one of its dangerous tasks.

The robot is called the DelFly Nimble Its wingspan(冀展)is about a foot wide. It has four wings that can beat at 17 times per second, which appear very delicate because they’re made of the same material as space blankets.

In the previous designs. they always had a tail, like a traditional airplane tail, said the robots main designer Matej Karasek. He’s based at the Micro Air Vehicle Laboratory at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, and he and his colleagues published their findings on Thursday in Science

“In the previous generations", he said, "flapping wings drove the robot forward while the tail helped to guide and stabilize it. But now the DelFly Nimble is completely controlled by the wings. The challenge then was actually combine the control into the wing movement, and that’s what we achieved, Karasek said

In the latest generation. the wings can each move individually or rotate(旋转)around the body of the robot in order to maximize the machine s agility(灵活 ) The robot can remain in one place in the air for about five minutes on a full battery or fly for more than a kilometer", Karasek said, "And because the scientists are controlling all the movements, they can use the robot to learn more about how fruit flies actually carry out their dangerous tasks, which has caught the attention of biologists.”

23、China is recognized as a world leader in the development of artificial intelligence and facial recognition systems. A Chinese company, the Beijing-based Hanwang Technology Ltd. , says it has created a new facial recognition system that can identify people even if they are wearing masks. Engineers at the company say their system is the first to be created to effectively identify people wearing face masks.

The company told a news agency that a team of 20 people built the system in about a month. The system is based on existing technologies developed over the past 10 years. The process involved adding a collection of about 6 million unmasked faces and a much smaller collection of masked faces, the company said.

The company is now selling two main kinds of products that use the new technology. One performs “single channel” recognition, which is designed to be used at the entrances to buildings. The other product is a “multi-channel” recognition system that uses groups of surveillance (监视)   cameras. It can identify individuals in a crowd of up to 30 people within a second.

“When people are wearing a mask that covers the mouth and nose, the recognition rate can reach about 95%, which can ensure that most people can be identified.” said Huang, vice president of the company. He added that the system’s success rate for people not wearing a mask is about 99.5%. However, the new system struggles to identify people wearing both a mask and sunglasses. “In this situation, all of the key facial information is lost. In such cases recognition is tough.” Huang said.

People were reacting differently to the new technology. While some citizens have been against using such tools, the majority have accepted the technology as an effective way to decrease crime and catch criminals.

【1】What did the company do to build the system?

A.They merely used the latest technology.

B.They gathered many face images.

C.They employed hundreds of people.

D.They spent about a decade building it.

【2】What can be learned about the new system?

A.It is still in the experimental stage.

B.It has already been used by the police.

C.Its recognition rate of masked faces is about 99.5%.

D.It is hard to recognize people with both masks and glasses.

【3】What is the author’s attitude towards the new technology?

A.Skeptical.

B.Optimistic.

C.Objective.

D.Critical.

【4】Which of the following is the best title of the text?

A.Artificial Intelligence and Facial Recognition.

B.China—the First to Create Facial Recognition.

C.An Effective way To Decrease Crimes and Catch Criminals.

D.A New Recognition System to Identify People with Masks.

24、 A new word duang is taking the Internet by storm in China - but no one knows quite what it means. The character “duang” is so new that it does not even exist in the Chinese dictionary. But it has already spread like wildfire online in China, appearing more than 8 million times on China's micro-blogging site Weibo, where it drew 312,000 discussions among 15,000 users. On China's biggest online search engine Baidu, it has been looked up almost 600,000 times. It's been noticed in the West too, with Foreign Policy seeing it as a “break the Internet” viral meme - like a certain Kim Kardashian image, or a certain multicoloured dress.

But what does it mean? “Everyone's duang-ing and I still don't know what it means! Looks like it's back to school for me,” said Weibo user Weileiweito. Another user asked: “Have you duanged today? My mind is full of duang duang duang.” “To duang or not to duang, that is the question,” wrote user BaiKut automan.

“Duang” seems to be an example of onomatopoeia, a word that phonetically imitates a sound. It all seems to have started with Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan, who in 2004 was featured in a shampoo advertisement where he said famously defended his smooth, black hair using the rhythmical-sounding “duang”. The word resurfaced again recently after Chan posted it on his Weibo page. Thousands of users then began to flood Chan's Weibo page with comments, making the word in reference to his infamous shampoo appearance.

The word appears to have many different meanings, and there's no perfect translation, but you could use it as an adjective to give emphasis to the word that follows it. A cat might be “duang cute”, for example. Or you might be “very duang confused” by this blog. For readers of Chinese characters, the Jackie Chan theme is also apparent from the strange way in which the word is written: a combination of Chan's names written in Chinese.

【1】What’s the best title of the passage?

A. Millions share new Chinese character

B. There are many great storms in China

C. The Internet has made out new words

D. Many try to find ways to stop wildfire

2What is discussed in the second paragraph?

A. The doubt of the word.

B. The structure of the word

C. The meaning of the word

D. The root of the word

3When Jackie Chan first said duang, he really wanted to _____.

A. create an important word

B. see his Weibo Page flooded

C. praise a kind of shampoo

D. play a Hong Kong action film

4When duang is used as an adjective, it can be used to _____.

A. emphasize the word after it

B. make other people confused

C. combine the users’ names

D. open China’s micro-blogging
