二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、   If you find yourself checking your phone first thing in the morning, if you find you’re text-messaging while walking, checking your phone instead of working on an important assignment-you are addicted.

Don’t worry. The new NoPhone might be just the thing you need. It looks and feels exactly like a smart phone, but it does nothing. It’s just piece of plastic that you can carry around in your hand to fool yourself.

NoPhone is currently prototype(手机模型) that will cost only $12 once it hits the market. Its makers are trying to raise $30,000 in order to cover the production and marketing costs.

Dutch designer Ingmar Larsen, who helped create the NoPhone, said that he had the idea as a joke along with his friends Van Gould and Ben Langveld. To their great surprise, the idea received a lot of attention online and people from all over the world started placing requests for NoPhone of their own, so that’s when the three friends decided to raise money for mass production.

David H said, “I used to sleep with my phone in my hand, but my night terrors would cause me to throw it across the room in an unconscious panic. With the NoPhone, I can still enjoy the comfort of holding a phone in my sleep without waking up to a broken screen. Thanks, NoPhone.”

If you’re interested in NoPhone, but concerned about not being able to take selfies anymore, don’t worry. The makers do have an update at no extra charge--the mirror sticker (贴纸). That way; they say, you can enjoy “real-time” selfies with your friends whenever you want.

23、The whole idea behind the US National Parks system was to preserve natural and historic locations, and the wildlife that lives there. That goal allows for inclusion of anyplace that features natural beauty, unique geological features, or an interesting ecosystem, plus the sites of national monuments and other places of historical or archaeological significance.

We've selected three US National Parks that are as different from each other as possible. Let's start in the Northeastern corner of the US, with a beautiful park called Acadia.

Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is in Eastern Maine, near the town of Bar Harbor. The park is unique, in that it features a wide variety of landscapes, including mountains, ocean coastline, woodlands, lakes, and wetlands. It covers a total of 49,075 acres.

The park is home to 37 species of mammals, including black bears, moose, and deer. There are 33 fish species and 331 bird varieties.

Everglades National Park

Unlike many national parks, Everglades National Park was initially created to protect a fragile and disappearing ecosystem. The Everglades consist of a network of wetlands and forests that are fed by a river flowing slowly out of Lake Okeechobee.

The Everglades cover a massive area, and Everglades National Park protects only the southern twenty percent. It's the United States' largest tropical( 热带的) wilderness;in fact,it's the largest wilderness of any kind east of the Mississippi River.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is located on "the big island", Hawaii. It was created in 1916. The park features two active volcanoes, one of which, Mauna Loa, is the world's largest shield volcano. The other, Kilauea, is one of the world's most active volcanoes.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park lets visitors get up close and personal with the two volcanoes.Odd-looking lava(岩浆)fields and dramatic landscapes captivate the eye,and you can learn about the rare plants and animals that thrive in the tough environment.

My parents live a long way away. I went to see them with James, a friend, and we drove down on Friday night. In the middle of the trip it began to rain. The roads became very wet and it was difficult to drive. We arrived home just after midnight, feeling tired. The next morning it was still raining. James took his car to the local garage which was very good.

In the afternoon the weather became better. We wanted to go for a drive. My parents lent us their car. That was no good. Their car didn’t work! We rang the garage. “Oh, no.” they said, “your car won’t be ready until tomorrow.” So it wasn’t possible to go for a drive. We decided to play a word game. When we didn’t agree about a word we looked for a dictionary. It wasn’t there. Suddenly my mother remembered. “I lent it to your sister. She took it with her when she left.” The word game wasn’t any good without a dictionary.
