21、During the COVID-19 pandemic (流行病), some people found their exercise was greatly reduced. However, it was an attraction for others to increase their physical activity. With the change of working from home, some physical activity was reduced. People took this newly freed up time as a chance to add exercise to their day, with online fitness programs and health apps (应用软件) reporting an increase.
However, the early drive to exercise appears to have been short-lived for many, with a study comparing activity levels between the first and second waves of COVID-19 in Victoria finding most people reported a reduction in their physical activity levels the second time around because of a shortage of encouragement. A study found that COVID-19 has reduced physical activity and increased sedentary (久坐不动的) behavior, and the effects could be lasting.
Continuing concerns about COVID-19 have led to carefulness about returning to public spaces such as gyms. But also, with many people changing their exercise habits and setting up home gyms during the pandemic, it’s become much more convenient to exercise at home. It’s clear for many of us that COVID-19 changed how and how much we exercise. But the changes don’t necessarily have to be for the worse.
People who changed to online workouts (锻炼), fitness apps and home gyms during the pandemic said their exercise was less satisfying, less enjoyable and they felt less active com-pared with doing exercise in gyms. Besides the physical effects, people reported missing the social communication, friendship, and being avoidable of the gym. In-person classes also offer the advantages of management and instruction, which can help make sure workouts are completed safely and effectively.
However, online workouts, fitness apps and near-home workouts are likely here to stay, and offer many advantages, such as no need to travel to the gym and convenience, making it easy to fit in a workout while working and shouldering family responsibilities.

23、 Many of us live with a roommate at some stage. Sometimes, there can be problems. Who hasn't had an argument about whose turn it is to take out the rubbish or who should be the one to clear up after dinner? 【1】
You know that there's always someone else around, which can help you feel safer. There is always someone to talk to, so you never feel lonely. 【2】 For example, we're actually more likely to eat healthier food when living with others.
Australian researchers found that people living alone tended to eat less fresh food, which can have a negative effect on their health. However, those living with others generally benefited from a more varied diet compared to those living alone.
【3】 The researchers believe food preparation may be one of the important factors. For example, those living with friends have someone else to go shopping with, and thus are likely to buy higher-quality fresh food regularly.
【4】 If people living alone find they do not have the knowledge required to prepare a particular dish or cook a certain food, they may fall back on ready-made, less healthy food. However, if they live with at least one other person, they may be able to ask for help.
In addition, people living alone can eat whatever they want at any time of the day or night. However, it's helpful to have someone around who questions your decision to eat frozen pizza at 3 a.m. 【5】
A.What could explain these findings?
B.Cooking skills may be another factor.
C.You can encourage one another to go on a diet.
D.Statistics show people living alone tend to be slimmer.
E.That is, roommates can warn you of unhealthy routines.
F.Besides these obvious benefits, there are some you may not notice.
G.However, living with another person also comes with many benefits.
24、 More and more shoppers are buying things online these days, allowing them to avoid aggressive salespeople and long lines at checkout counters. In spite of online convenience, however, there are some items—like clothes—that customers prefer to examine before buying. In light of this, two companies are Ending ways to modernize stores and bridge the gap between online and in-store retail.
Hointer, a software company that also sells designer jeans, has created a fast and painless shopping experience for its customers. Shoppers walk into a Hointer store and select one of the many pairs of jeans hanging down from bars. Then they point their smartphones at the tag and activate the Hointer app, after which they select the size and press “try on” The app then directs them to a specific dressing room. German-made robots search for the desired jeans and deliver them through a chute to the dressing room in about 30 seconds. Immediately after unwanted pairs of jeans are dropped through another chute, the “outbox”, they disappear from the list in the app.
Purchases at Hointer are made with a swipe of a credit card. And a salesperson is optional. This allows Hointer to hire fewer people and focus on their goal: developing technology that supports a retail revolution.
Men's clothing retailer Bonobos has come up with a more personalized shopping experience. Although it is in fact an online retailer, Bonobos has decided to open a handful of stores called Guide shops. Shoppers make an appointment online before arriving at a Guideship, where they receive one-on-one attention from a fitting guide. Because these shops have limited stocks, shoppers aren't able to take home the clothes they select. But guides help shoppers make online purchases before they leave, after which the items will be delivered to customers in one or two days. Following the purchase, the Bonobos customer service database keeps a record of each shopper's size, making future online purchases easier.
While Hointer focuses on convenience, Bonobos Guide shops focus on customer service. But both efforts have one thing in common: giving clothing retailers a new look for the 21st century.
【1】The two companies are finding ways to modernize their stores because ______.
A.online shopping is losing its popularity
B.in-store retail makes higher profits
C.people's demand for in-store shopping still exists
D.store sales keep declining without high technology
【2】What do we know about Hointer?
A.It's a software company as well as a jean producer.
B.Shoppers can turn to a salesperson when necessary in Hointer.
C.The Hointer app makes clothes shopping more time-consuming.
D.Shoppers are welcomed by German-made robots in Hointer.
【3】If a man wants to buy clothes in Bonobos, it is incorrect that ______.
A.he needs to make an appointment online in advance
B.he has to make online purchases in the store
C.he should help create the customer service database
D.he can receive one-on-one attention from a guide
【4】Which might be the best title for this passage?
A.High Technology in Stores B.Advantages of In-store Shopping
C.Competition between Two Companies D.New Experience of Shopping for Clothes
