二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、Sixty-six-year-old Atsuko Oyama shares a goal held by many people a half-century younger. She wants to get 100 kills in the first-person shooter videogame “Apex Legends”.

True, she’s a little rusty (生疏的), having last fought against digital enemies in a “Space Invaders” shooting game sometime in the latter part of the 20th century. But after joining Japan’s first senior esports team in September, Ms. Oyama achieved 10 kills in a month and feels her enthusiasm growing. “Watching others play. I thought I couldn’t do it,” said the retired receptionist. “But I didn’t like to be left behind, so I decided to come here at least twice, and now I am into it.”

Esports promoters who have seen Japan fall behind powerhouses in videogame competitions think the senior market might be the way to catch up. And if the over-65 set feels a little more energized after shooting a few rival enemies, so much the better.

Japan is the world’s oldest nation, but its efforts to boost the size of its younger population have been mostly unsuccessful. It is, however, at the forefront of initiatives to keep old people thinking younger.

Ms. Oyama, whose player name is Mama, tried out for the team known as the Matagi Snipers after her daughter saw an ad recruiting players. The Matagi Snipers, named for a traditional group of bear hunters in northern Japan, have been practicing since September at their home base in northern Akita county. With an average age of 68, the 14-person team hopes eventually to compete in professional tournaments in first-person shooter titles such as “Apex Legends” and “Fortnite”.

Coach “Lemon” motivates his team by telling them age is an advantage. He thought, there is a huge difference in social experience between people who have lived only 20 years versus 60 years. While younger players tend to be more violent, older players can communicate better and lean on teamwork.

【1】Which of the following best describes Atsuko Oyama?

【3】What mainly contributes to the seniors’ success in the game?

A.Efficient cooperation.

D.Previous gaming experience.

【4】What is author’s attitude toward the senior videogaming?

22、Four days of fun, sun and celebrities, as well as networking, career workshops and mentoring (指导), were in store for two Long Island teens chosen to take part in the 12th annual Disney Dreamers Academy (DDA) at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Chosen from thousands of applicants, Tianna Gonzales and Kaiya Simmons were part of a group of 100 young people who marched in the Magic Kingdom Parade and made conversation with Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Kaiya Simmons, 14, moved to Miller Place at the age of 3. A ninth grader at Miss Porter’s School, Kaiya says she enjoys acting, art and science and is currently studying environmental science. “It is fun learning about the environment and different ways to help protect it,” Kaiya says. “I am also learning different techniques to improve my acting on stage and in films.” After high school, Kaiya hopes to attend Yale University and pursue a career as a doctor.

The Disney Dreamers Academy is aimed at helping to inspire young people during a critical time of their development. “Our goal is to help them see the unlimited possibilities and to inspire them to achieve their purpose — to become the heroes of their own stories”, says Tracey D. 23、   Increasing numbers of airports, especially in Europe, are promoting a “silent airport” idea. It is to reduce noise pollution, such as airport-wide announcements, without sacrificing timely and helpful updates of information.

International airports were once characterized by their high voices, competing gate announcements and so on. This is all changing. Angela Gittens, director general of Airports Council International (ACI), says there is a growing desire among airports and airlines they serve to create a calm, relaxed atmosphere without being disturbed by announcements. “Passengers can relax while they wait for their flight to board in the common airside lounges(休闲区), and food and drink areas,” she says.

In June, Helsinki Airport in Finland—a country where the tourism slogan(口号) is “silence, please”—became the most recent airport to adopt the silent concept. As part of its commitment to quieting things down, announcements for flights are made only in boarding gate areas.

Lost track of time in the shops?

Too bad.

Nobody’s going to call you to your flight, as announcements in all terminals will be made only in exceptional(尤其) emergency circumstances.

Heikki Koski, vice president of Helsinki Airport, says that improved flight information display system and interactive kiosks(交互式自助服务机), together with advances in mobile technology, are changing the way airports communicate with passengers. At Munich airport, InfoGate kiosks allow for video-based face-to-face conversation with a live customer service representative in the traveler’s language of choice. Interactive signs, on the other hand, give directions at the touch of finger. Passengers can tap a “you are here” display to get directions and approximate walking time to their destinations.

Of course, an airport will never be as silent as a temple. There will continue to be a need for airport-wide emergency announcements along with boarding calls. But at silent airports, the latter can be restricted to specific gates, as has adopted in Helsinki.

1What is Angela Gittens’ opinion on the silent airport concept?

A. It makes airport noise-free.

B. It is intended for passengers’ benefit.

C. It has changed international airports’ reputation.

D. It has encouraged the catering industry in airports.

2What should passengers pay close attention to at Helsinki Airport?

A. Their boarding time. B. Finland’s tourism slogan.

C. The shop’s opening hours. D. The “you are here” display.

3Why is Munich Airport mentioned in the text?

A. To show its popularity. B. To introduce Infogate kiosks.

C. To prove Heikki Koski’s words. D. To be compared with Helsinki Airport.

4What is the best title for the text?

A. Silence, please. This is an airport.

B. Can airports be as quiet as temples?

C. Silent airports all around the world.

D. Technology helps airports become interactive.

24、"Barefoot Mike" gets a lot of attention when he shows up at the beginning of a race. He loves to run and has been running since he was a kid. He loves to race, and often competes in 10K races. But that’s not the reason he gets so much attention. People notice him because when he runs, “Barefoot Mike” runs barefoot.

Running barefoot has become a huge trend in the world of running. “I didn't set out to be a trend setter,” laughed

“Barefoot Mike”, otherwise known as Mike Whitaker. “I've always been a runner, but until a few years ago, I always wore shoes. Then one day I was running after a rainstorm. I stepped off into the grass to avoid a puddle(水坑) on the sidewalk, and accidentally stepped into a huge muddy puddle that had been hidden in the grass. I tried to keep running, but the wet and dirty shoe made it really hard. I figured the best solution was to just get rid of the shoes.”

Mike took off his shoes and dropped them into the nearest trash can. “Then I started running. At first I went really slowly because I was watching out for rocks or other things that could hurt my feet, but there really weren't any problems.” He started going faster. “It felt so good!” Mike said. “My knee, which always ached, didn't ache. My foot was able to spread out so I had better balance. And my feet didn't feel all hot and sweaty. It was awesome!”

“There are actually potential health benefits to running barefoot,” said Dr.  Nancy Bower, a podiatrist(足科医师).

A recent study agrees. A team of researchers recently videotaped several people running —first wearing shoes and then barefoot. In almost every case, when wearing shoes, the runners tended to land on the heel of their foot, which they call “heelstriking.” Many runners have impact injuries such as knee pain. Heelstriking may be the cause of these injuries or may make an existing injury worse.

When running barefoot, the runners tended to land on the middle part of the foot. The force is spread out throughout the foot. The ankle, shin(胫部), knee and hip don't get the shock of a hard landing with every step.

1Why does Mike receive a lot of attention while running?

A. Because he runs very fast.

B. Because he loses his shoes.

C. Because he wears no shoes.

D. Because he wears strange clothes.

2According to Paragraph 2, why did Mike run barefoot years ago?

A. He liked running barefoot.

B. He was advised to run barefoot.

C. His shoe became very uncomfortable.

D. His dream of becoming famous motivated him.

3After running barefoot for a while a few years ago, Mike ________.

A. was very tired

B. was badly hurt

C. gave up running

D. felt unexpectedly great

4According to the recent study, heelstriking ________.

A. is bad for one's health

B. is caused by existing injuries

C. happens when one runs barefoot

D. can be avoided by wearing sports shoes.

四、书面表达(共1题,共 5分)

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的司数应为I50左右。

My friend Jack had a birthday party recently and I wanted to make him something special to show how much our friendship meant to me. I pulled out the craft box and spread everything out on the table: markers, paints, seasheils, and construction paper. I stared and stared but couldn’t think of what to make.

Just then, my cat Charlie leaped on a pile of paper. The paper, and Charlie, slid across the table. I thought, “It looks like Charlie’s skateboarding (滑滑板) Skateboard! That’s it.”

I ran to my room and found an old photo of Jack and me with our first skateboards.

I worked all afternoon on the coolest picture frame ever. It was shaped and colored just like the skateboard Jack had in the photo.

I spoke to myself as I applied the final coat of paint. “I bet this will be Jack’s favorite present!”

When I arrived at the party, I set my gift behind all the others so Jack would open it last. The whole time we were playing games, I kept glancing over at it. Then Jack’s grandmother brought out the cake. Jack blew out the candles. Finally, it was time to open presents. Jack opened a book, a paint set, and a baseball cap. The next-to-last thing was a long heavy box.

“I got two of the same things for my birthday,” Justin told Jack. “So I’m giving one of them to you.”

Jack opened the box and pulled out a super-nice skateboard. “No way!” he shouted. “This is exactly the one I’ve been wanting. Let’s go outside and try it!”

“Um, Jack,” I said, “aren’t you going to open my gift?”

“Oh, of course!” He ripped (撕开) open the present, not even noticing the funny cartoons I’d drawn on the wrapping paper. “Hey, I remember this photo. Thanks, Arizona!” He put down the picture frame, grabbed the new skateboard, and called, “Come on, everyone! We can all take turns!”

Everyone ran outside—everyone except me.
