二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、Children are known to be very keen observers and once they are interested in something, it is very likely to stay with them for life. They tend to look at life through the eyes of the person they are close to or want to be like. If their role model is optimistic, there are more chances of them optimistic. The role model becomes their standard of measurement.

Because they follow the actions of their role models so closely, children adopt the personality and attitude of their role models. Children learn to like or dislike certain things by mimicking the personality and attitude of the people they admire.

One reason why children keep changing their answers to “what would you like to be when you grow up” is that they are influenced by individuals in a certain field.

Children view the social relationships (family or public) mainly in the light of the importance these relationships hold in the life of their role models. Their expression of their feelings is many times a reflection of their role model’s outlook.

According to a study, around 56% of teenagers identified with the role models. Out of these, those having personal or direct contact with their role models had higher self-esteem and were better at academics compared to those who didn’t. As such, children who have positive role models, have more self-confidence and are more optimistic about their future. They learn to handle themselves well in social settings and positively interact with those around them.

Of course, children who have their parents as positive role models have a well-rounded outlook towards life. They find it easier to deal with the highs and lows of life because they have seen their parents do it before. They find a sense of stability and security knowing that they will overcome failures just like their parents before them. Besides, it becomes easier for parents to discipline and guide children. So it is no wonder why children who have parents as their role models have fewer behavioral issues.

22、   Carolyn Crump's work as a UPS delivery driver spans more than twenty-three years. And because of her long-standing career, she calls many of her customers friends and family. And the feeling is mutual(相互的).

“Every single person can give you a story, where she has gone above and beyond, like bringing up groceries when someone's arm was broken. She's got a heart of gold. The day before we had to put our dog down, I found her in front of our gate saying her goodbyes to our dog. That's the type of person she is,” said Jason Lehtman.

Jason found out Carolyn had a leaking roof. And he knew he needed to do something to help the beloved UPS delivery driver!

Moved with compassion, Jason created a GoFundMe page to crowdfund for repairs to the thirty-year-old roof. The entire project came: together in less than two weeks and raised several thousand dollars within two days.

The community came together to raise the money for the repairs and to surprise her too. One customer called in about a fake package for Carolyn Crump to pick up.

Next, they blindfolded Carolyn and brought her to a park where the community of friends presented the UPS delivery driver with the check. After receiving her check, she also received a round of applause before hopping back into her truck to deliver the last twenty packages of the day.

“It's easy to have a positive attitude when you know how blessed you are to just have a job, especially during a pandemic. I love online shoppers. I should get a bumper sticker that says that on my car. They don't sign my check, but they definitely supply the materials for it,” she said.

【4】How does Carolyn Crump feel at last?

A.Grateful.

23、Most people aren’t good at creative problem solving for two reasons: First, they are not trained in how to be creative. Second, they don’t understand group strength well enough to harness(驾驭) their power to maximize group creativity.

A key element of creativity is applying existing knowledge to a new problem. The more people getting involved in solving it, the more knowledge there is to work on it. Unfortunately, research shows that the traditional brainstorming methods fail to achieve that goal. When groups get together to exchange ideas, they actually come up with fewer ideas overall than if they each had worked alone.

To fix this problem, you should consider the two stages of group problem-solving: divergence(分散) and convergence(集中). Divergence happens when the group considers as many different potential solutions as possible. Convergence happens when the various proposed solutions are evaluated and reduced to a smaller set of candidate solutions to the current problem.

The essential principle of group creativity is that individuals working alone diverge, whereas group members working together converge. In groups, once a member states a potential solution, it makes others think about the problem similarly. That is why groups working together diverge less than individuals working alone.

Therefore, be aware of when to diverge and when to converge. For example, early in the problem-solving process, have group members work alone to write down statements describing the problem. Then get them back to discuss their descriptions. The group discussion will lead everyone to accept one or a small number of these statements to work on—this is healthy convergence.

When starting to generate solutions, you again want divergence. Have people work alone to start. Then collect people’s initial ideas and send them around to others and allow the divergence to continue as everyone individually builds on the ideas of other members. Finally, let the group discuss the resulting ideas. This discussion will gradually lead the group to converge on a small number of candidate solutions.

This simple method works effectively, because it respects what individuals and groups do best.

【1】We can infer that the traditional brainstorming methods ______.

A.enable people to form more ideas together

B.greatly encourage group creativity

C.actually limit group creativity

D.prevent people’s involvement in the problems

【2】According to Para. 4, when a member presents an idea, others tend to _____.

A.think the other way round

B.follow his way of thinking

C.be more confident in their own ideas

D.be less willing to share their own ideas

【3】What should group members first do early in the problem-solving process?

A.Discuss the problem.

B.Put down group statements together.

C.Simplify the problem.

D.Write down their individual descriptions.

【4】What is the best title for the text?

A.A simple way to make group thinking more effective

B.Difficulties in organizing group thinking

C.Differences between divergence and convergence

D.Advantages of group thinking over individual thinking

24、   While you visit the happiest place on earth, hope you don't hear these two phrases-or the tour might be about to turn into an unpleasant situation.

Disney World and Disneyland are well-known for being the happiest places in the world, but sometimes, some bad things happen. When they do, staff have code words(暗语)to let other staff know what has taken place without destroying your perfectly happy day with terrible details.

According to the New York Post, one of the code words you can hear a worker say at Disney World is "White Powder Alert", which means that guest has brought the ashes(骨灰)of dead relatives in order to make the happiest place on earth their final resting place. According to Susan Veness, author of Walt Disney World Hacks, this most commonly happens on the Haunted Mansion. This is illegal and can get those with ashes refused from Disney forever.

The second Disney code word you never want to hear is "E-stop." This one is a bit straighter and isn't used just for Disney. In order to remain as perfectly clear in an emergency situation as possible, workers in most amusement parks use the same phrase. It means "Emergency Stop". If ride must be shut down due to sanitary(卫生的)issue-like someone getting sick or pouring ashes-or a safety issue, an E-stop is called and the ride is quickly shut down while park officials decide if the ride should be evacuated(疏散)immediately or simply paused for repair.

No matter what code words are said, you will never want to hear a Disney cast member use these words.

1Why do staff in Disneyland use code words?

A.They try to make tourists have a good day B.They want to avoid quarrels with tourists

C.Code words make communication easier D.Code words help tourists understand situations better

A.Susan Veness will criticize them seriously B.Disneyland will refuse them a visit forever

A.It is used not only in Disneyland B.It isn't used in dangerous situation

C.It is more difficult to understand D.It describes a more terrible situation

4What is the text mainly about?

A.Attractive and magical Disney B.Some emergency cases in Disney

C.Tips for having a good time in Disney D.Two unwelcome code words in Disney
