Animal Collection Officer(ACO) Lauren Bradshaw was one of the three people to find and rescue the duck on the canal near Sellars Square in Manchester on August 23. They entered the water to reach the bird. “Our plan was to round up the duck and get him to a bridge as the width of the canal is smaller there,” Lauren said, “The duck managed to escape from us a couple of times but eventually we managed to net and catch him. Then I freed him and gave him an examination.”

She added that the plastic was fortunately not tight around the animal’s neck and did not cause any injuries or difficulty breathing. However, plastic stuck around the neck and throat area is a hazard to many sea animals, as the animals think it is food and, once trapped, are unable to remove it. She suggested that people cut open any plastic rings so that if they are deserted, they will not be able to trap animals like this.

Lauren also reminded people that ducks may starve to death due to litter being thrown away rather than being put in a dustbin. When hungry ducks swallow floating pieces of plastic, they can cut through their organs or trick them into feeling full, causing them to stop eating.

The RSPCA says it has received more than 21,600 reports of animals injured or caught in litter over the past five years.

Nail biting is a non-verbal gesture. In adults it’s often a habit adopted and carried through from childhood and can become apparent in stressful situations throughout adulthood. To most people, nail biting is associated with nervousness and shyness and is an involuntary response to certain social situations. In severe cases nail biting can become a repetitive behaviour that is intentionally performed. It can result in great physical damage.

So when we look deeper, in both adults and children, it has been suggested that severe nail biting is often referred to as a method of “self-heating”. This indicates that nail biting is a subconscious behaviour indicating increased anxiety and low self-confidence.

Hair pulling can indicate a number of emotions and behaviors. For example, children who bite their nails or frequently pull their hair may be nervous or have low self-confidence. Hair pulling may be a comforting action for a child who is tense and anxious, and may become habitual later in life in stressful situations. Routine and severe hair pulling can be a compulsive disorder that may be linked to genetics, anxiety and depression. It’s most commonly thought to be a stress-related condition.

However, hair puling is also another non-verbal body language that can signify different things in different situations. For example, in some situations, it can mean interest and desire. However, in other situations, it can suggest anxiety, incompetence, uncertainty or shyness.

The spokesman continued, "Included in the price for these parties is the birthday cake, and children's meal of sandwiches, crisps, fruit juice, fruit and Haribo sweets. All attending adults also get a free hot drink and the birthday child gets a free group photograph."

Legoland says that the pricing for the sleepover package is based on overall operating costs of opening the centre exclusively for the group.
