23、Chinese researchers have developed a robot designed to help doctors treat the new coronavirus and other highly infectious diseases.
The machine has a long robotic arm attached to a base with wheels. It can perform some of the same medical examination tasks as doctors. Cameras record the robot’s activities, which are controlled remotely so doctors can avoid coming in close contact with infected patients. Doctors and other medical workers can operate the machine from a nearby room, or from much farther away.
The robot’s main designer is Zheng Gangtie, an engineer and professor at Tsinghua University. He told a news agency that he got the idea for the device around the time of the Lunar New Year in January, when the COVID-19 virus was spreading quickly.
Zheng said a friend of his is the head of Beijing’s Tsinghua Changgung Hospital. He said his friend told him that one of the biggest problems in dealing with COVID-19 was that healthcare workers treating patients were getting infected themselves. Zheng said he wanted to do something to help this situation.
So the engineer gathered a team and went to work on the robotic device. The team was able to convert(转换) two robotic arms. The devices use the same technology that is used for space equipment. The new robot is almost completely automated and perform the most dangerous tasks. However, some doctors said that it would be better not to build such robots to be fully automatic. This is because many patients still desire a personal presence to help calm them during treatment.
The plan is to use the robot to help treat coronavirus patients, along with assistance from nurses and other hospital workers. Zheng said he would like to build more of the robots and does not plan to make any profit from the design, but hopes that a company can begin that process.

24、 I was 16 years old the day I skipped school for the first time. It was easily done: Both my parents left for work before my school bus arrived on weekdays, so when it showed up at my house on that cold winter morning, I simply did not get on. The perfect crime!
And what did I do with myself on that glorious stolen day, with no adult in charge and no limits on my activities? Did I get high? Hit the mall for a shoplifting extravaganza (狂欢)?
Nope. I built a warm fire in the wood stove, prepared a bowl of popcorn, grabbed a blanket, and read. I was thrilled and transported by a book — it was Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises — and I just needed to be alone with it for a little while. I ached to know what would happen to Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley and Robert Cohn. I couldn't bear the thought of sitting in a classroom taking another biology exam when I could be traveling through Spain in the 1920s with a bunch of expatriates(异乡客).
I spent that day lost in words. Time fell away, as the room around me turned to mist, and my role — as a daughter, sister, teenager, and student-in the world no longer had any meaning. I had accidentally come across the key to perfect happiness: I had become completely absorbed by something I loved.
Please note that absorption is not the same as distraction or obsession. To be absorbed by something is to become it and when we come out of it, we are richer for it. To be distracted by something is also to disappear, but not in a good way. We become nothing at all. We don't get enriched. And to be obsessed by something, finally, is to become consumed and destroyed by it. So the trick to happiness, then, is to find something that absorbs you and become that thing by pursuing it with devoted attention.
Looking back on it now, I can see that some subtle things were happening to my mind and to my life while I was in that state of absorption. Hemingway's language was quietly braiding itself into my imagination. I was downloading information about how to create simple and elegant sentences, a good and solid plot. In other words, I was learning how to write. Without realizing it, I was hot on the trail of my own fate. Writing now absorbs me the way reading once did and happiness is their generous side effect.
【1】Why did the author skip school on that day?
A.Because her parents left home early.
B.Because she was eager to read a novel.
C.Because it was a cold winter morning.
D.Because she hated to have biology class.
【2】What did the author think is the source of true joy?
A.Reading by the fire.
B.Travelling in Spain.
C.Breaking the regulations.
D.Being occupied by one's passion.
【3】Which can best replace the underlined phrase "braiding itself into" in the last paragraph?
A.Maintaining.
B.Entering.
C.Mending.
D.Blocking.
【4】According to the author, which of the following is an example of absorption?
A.You picture yourself as the characters in a book and live and breathe and love and die with them.
B.When you read a book, you frequently turn to your smartphones, checking WeChat messages,
C.You spend endless time and amounts of money on computer games without caring about anything else.
D.Your mind always wanders about various things and it takes you a lot of time.
【5】What can we infer from the passage?
A.The author was tired of her real-life roles.
B.The author learned how to write through online courses.
C.Being fully engaged in writing now makes the author happy.
D.The author knew when she would be good at handling her life.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There was once a boy in ragged clothes running to ask a building contractor(包工头)who wore elegant clothes in a construction site of a skyscraper(摩天大楼),“How could I become as rich as you when I grow up?"
With a glance at the boy,the tall and strong-build contractor replied,"I would like to tell you a story first about three diggers. The first digger liked holding a spade(锹) without doing anything but saying that he wanted to be a boss in the future. The second digger liked complaining about the long-time work and his low salary. The third digger always quietly devoted himself to digging without making any claims.Several years later, the first digger was still holding his spade in the original place and the second took an excuse of work injury for early retirement.Only the third digger became the boss of the building company.Do you understand the moral of this story?Just go to buy a red shirt and work hard.”
The little boy was puzzled and could not figure out the implication of the story. So he asked the contractor to explain further.Pointing to the builders who were working on the scaffold(脚手架),the contractor talked to the little boy,"Look at those people! They are all my workers.I can't remember all of their names, and even I have no impression of some of them. But if you look carefully, you will notice a sunburned man in red among them.I notice him very early. He seems to be working harder with higher spirits than others. He is always the first one to work every day while the last one to leave. It is exactly his red shirt that makes him stand out among all the workers. Now I am about to ask him to be my taskmaster and I believe he will work even much harder from now on.Maybe he will soon be promoted to my assistant."
