21、阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项.

Tea  vs Coffee

Tea and coffee are two of the most widely consumed drinks in the United States. With popularity and interest in tea continuing to grow in recent years, many consumers have recently considered

making the switch from coffee to tea, if they have not done so already. All the buzz surrounding tea

and coffee may have you wondering, what are the differences? As it turns out, the differences are

many and varied.

In the US, interest in tea ranges from coast to coast with the highest in Hawaii and California

but stretching to the eastern states of Vermont and New York. On the other hand, the highest interest

in coffee tends to be concentrated more in the north and western regions(地区), with the highest

search volumes appearing in the states of Hawaii, Washington and Minnesota.

Differences between tea and coffee also vary in origin and production. All tea comes from the

harvested leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, while there are about 60 different species of coffee

plants. Production of tea is quicker and more efficient: Camellia sinensis plants only need to grow

for three years before they are ready to process; coffee plants take up to five years.

Perhaps the most concerning issue consumers have when considering making the switch to tea

is the question of caffeine. The good news is, when it comes to tea and caffeine, there is something

for everyone. Unlike coffee, which typically only comes in decaffeinated and regular, there are

several varieties of tea available, based on caffeine preference.

From herbal teas that are naturally free of caffeine, to high quality green and black teas that

offer less than half the caffeine of coffee, to high caffeine teas such as our specially formulated

HiCAF® blends that contain slightly more caffeine than a cup of coffee, there is a variety sure to

suit your needs. As an added bonus, the lower acidity levels in tea tend to be gentler on the stomach

for a more comforting pick-me-up.

So what is the answer, coffee or tea? If you are looking for the most healthful benefit possible,

tea is probably the winner. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If, like many Americans,

the rising popularity in tea has your interest piqued, the images below will help to clearly spell out

the differences between tea and coffee.

【1】It can be learned from the passage that ______.

A. coffee is of much higher production than tea

B. tea and coffee are from harvested leaves of plants

C. the popularity of tea is growing constantly in the US

D. there is no regional difference in drinking tea and coffee

【2】 According to the passage, which of the following contains the least caffeine?

A. Green tea.    B. Black tea.

C. Herbal tea. D. HiCAF® blends.

【3】What is the author’s attitude towards tea?

A. Positive.  B. Cautious.

C. Sceptical.    D. Negative.

【4】The underlined word “piqued” in the last paragraph probably means .

A. reduced  B. lost

C. expressed D. excited

22、For your next out-of-this-world vacation, you now have the option of literally going out of this world—but it’ll cost you $ 40 million. Then again, can you really put a price tag on having the time of your life? According to a new report from Popular Mechanics, Russia is looking to build a luxury hotel in outer space. There you will wake up to a breathtaking blue planet—the earth! The hotel is expected to be stationed on the International Space Station (ISS).

While space tourism itself isn’t exactly a novel idea, the notion of building a hotel out there hasn’t been raised before. Really, other companies are still focused on the transportation part of the puzzle — after all, a trip to space is enough for most folks.

According to Popular Mechanics, the hotel will include a luxury orbital suite with big windows, personal hygiene (卫生) facilities, exercise equipment, and yes, WiFi. Because if you can’t share your experience on social media, did it really even happen?

Of course, the reasons behind the hotel aren’t just for fun and games. Apparently, space tourism might be able to help the Russians pay for another module to add to the international Space Station. Russian space contractor RKK Energia is currently building the first such module, which will give scientists a laboratory and power supply station from which to conduct tests.

If any of this is going to happen, however, Russia is going to have to hurry. With the ISS expected to be out of use in 2028, there’s little time to build the hotel and find wealthy tourists to actually buy a trip into outer space.

So if you’ve recently come into a fortune and are interested in investing in what could be the time of your life, ISS is calling your name.

1What do we know about the hotel from the first paragraph?

A. It is quite affordable.

B. It will be built in Russia.

C. It will offer an amazing view.

D. It costs $ 40 million to build.

2What does the underlined phrase “the puzzle” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A. An orbital suite.   B. Space tourism.

C. Space exploration.   D. A creative idea.

3What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?

A. Hotel guests won’t be able to see into space.

B. Visitors are required to take exercise each day.

C. Space travel is not possible without the Internet.

D. Tourists tend to share traveling experiences online.

4The hotel will be built to provide Russian scientists with

A. fun and games   B. financial support

C. space contractors   D. more time in space

24、The Rise of Microchipping

On August 1, 2017, workers at Three Square Market, a company specializing in vending machines, lined up in the office cafeteria to be implanted with microchips. One after another, they held out a hand to a tattooist who pushed a rice-grain sized implant into the flesh between their thumb and forefinger. The group implant event, organized by company management, fitted into Three Square Market’s longer-term vision of a cashless payment system for their vending machines — workplace snacks purchased with a flick of the wrist. The televised “chipping party” was picked up by media outlets from Moscow to Sydney. 【1】 After the event, Three Square Market’s Google reviews page was flooded with one-star ratings.

For Jowan Österlund, whose company Biohax provided the service, microchip implants were not radical or even novel. He has lived with one for years and has implanted hundreds of other young, tech-savvy (技术大咖) Swedes. 【2】 They have used their implants to gain access to their co-working spaces, pay for gym membership, and even to ride the train. But are the people of the world ready for technology to start getting under their skin?

Microchip implants are essentially cylindrical (长圆形的) bar codes that, when scanned, transmit a unique signal through a layer of skin. 【3】 Today, Biohax is aiming to simplify identity and access in the digital world, offering a replacement to the seemingly endless collection of passwords, keys, tickets and cards that clutter our lives. Jowan’s friend Hannes Sjöblad has his own microchip-focused business. He believes that by placing a device under the skin, instead of wearing it like a Fitbit, data collection will be greatly improved.

But Urs Gasser at Harvard University believes that extending beyond the Swedish tech-hub environment to a broader market will be legally and morally difficult. In his view, Three Square Market’s chipping event actually symbolizes the imbalances of power in the workplace. Are you a person being paid for your work, or are you the property of the company you work for?

Ifeoma Ajunwa at Cornell University adds that it is crucial to consider the implications of this technology in the context of increasing worker surveillance (管制). 【4】 This seems to blur the line between work and family life,” she said.

A.Microchips will deepen this dynamic, as they “literally go with the worker whenever they go”.

B.Chipping, thereby, has swept across the globe with its magnetic appeal.

C.Not all of the attention was positive, however.

D.Mostly, they have been used to organize warehouses or identify lost pets.

E.Conquered by the “almighty” microchips, workers may no longer be their own masters.

F.For this community, the chip signifies an all-in-one combination of biology and technology.

四、书面表达(共1题,共 5分)

26、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Zaha Hadid

Born in Iraq in 1950, Zaha Hadid was the first woman to win the Pritzker prize, the field’s highest honor. But for years, she had to fight to prove that her designs could even be built. She was a pioneer in Deconstructivism: Designing buildings that looked unstable, jagged, or frozen in mid-explosion. She gained a reputation for her gorgeous, fantastical designs—painted by hand. But her ideas looked impossible to build, so they remained on paper.

Then, in 1983, she won a big competition to design a club in the hills of Hong Kong. Hadid proposed carving chunks out of the mountainside, which she called a “man-made geology.” The project was eventually canceled, but the world of architecture then knew her name.

Still, it took another decade before one of her concepts actually got built: A fire station in Germany with no right angles; looking like it could take flight. It was a great success—quickly becoming a prime example of Deconstructivist architecture.

Around the same time, she won an international competition to design an opera house in Wales, but it was overruled by local politicians, and the funding was pulled. Later, Hadid said it was resistance and prejudice that killed the project.

But she kept winning competitions, building momentum—and finally, buildings! By the early 2000s, she was an architecture superstar. She still drew by hand, but adopted new computer technology to model her designs. The software made even wilder shapes possible—including the curves that became her signature. A Hadid design was no longer crazy or impossible—it was simply a Hadid.

Sadly, she died of a heart attack in 2016. By then she had built hundreds of buildings, with many more in progress. And she had proved she could build nearly anything she could imagine.
