21、 Traveling with your dear pet by train in comfort and safety is like an adventure: It requires a little advanced planning. 【1】 And your pet can stay healthy along the way.
【2】
Best practices for keeping your pet healthy can vary by time of year, activity and destination. For example, hiking and back-country adventures can increase your pet’s exposure to ticks, while some regions may have a higher risk for heartworm. And even though your pet may currently be flea-free (无跳搔的),there’s no guarantee that other animals are as well.
Learn railway requirements
【3】 Additionally, make sure to book your pet’s ticket in advance-no one wants the heartbreak of a trip delayed or canceled because the train is at capacity (程度)for four-legged travelers.
Reduce your pet’s anxiety around train noise
If you know your dog or cat loves to go for a ride, you may not have to worry. 【4】 Put your pet in a carrier, head for the station and give plenty of treats and praise as the trains roll in. This will help your pet get used to the sounds of the railway station and the engine. 【5】 Take your pet on a day trip to see how well they manage the noise, the motion and the excitement.
A.Other routes allow pets in all cars.
B.Going for a test ride is even better.
C.Talk to the vet before you leave.
D.Make sure to do so before you leave for traveling.
E.But anxious pets might benefit from a practice run.
F.Different routes have different rules about pets on board.
G.Follow these three easy tips to help your four-legged friend travel well.
22、 For years, the U.S. has experienced a shortage of registered nurses. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that while the number of nurses will increase by 19 percent by 2022, demand will grow faster than supply, and that there will be over one million unfilled nursing jobs by then.
So what's the solution? Robots.
Japan is ahead of the curve when it comes to this trend. Toyohashi University of Technology has developed Terapio, a robotic medical cart that can make hospital rounds, deliver medications and other items. It follows a specific individual, such as a doctor or nurse, who can use it to record and access patient data. This type of robot will likely be one of the first to be implemented in hospitals because it has fairly minimal patient contact.
A robot's appearance affects its ability to successfully interact with humans, which is why the RIKEN-TRI Collaboration Center for Human-Interactive Robot Research decided to develop a robotic nurse called Actroid F. It is so human-like that some patients may not know the difference. This conversational robot companion has cameras in its eyes, which allow it to track patients and use appropriate facial expressions and body language in its interactions. During a month-long hospital trial, researchers asked 70 patients how they felt being around the robot and "only three or four said they didn't like having it around."
It's important to note that robotic nurses don't decide courses of treatment or make diagnoses, though robot doctors and surgeons may not be far off. Instead, they perform routine and laborious tasks, freeing nurses up to attend to patients with immediate needs. This is one industry where it seems the interaction of robots will lead to collaboration, not replacement.
【1】What does the author say about Japan?
A.It ranks top in future robotics technology.
B.It takes the lead in offering robotic nursing.
C.It is in desperate need of registered nurses.
D.It provides the best medication for the elderly.
【2】Which of the following best explains “implemented' underlined in Paragraph 3?
A.Cancelled. B.Constructed. C.Improved. D.Applied.
【3】What do we know about the robot Actroid F?
A.It has no difference from a human nurse.
B.It gets favorable remarks from all the patients.
C.It interacts with patients like a human companion.
D.It uses body language even more effectively than words.
【4】What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Cooperation will not be replaced.
B.Nurses will still play their roles.
C.The robotics industry will be promising.
D.Robots can meet patients' immediate needs.
23、 A young woman was walking in Santa Ana, California, when she came upon an elderly street vendor (小贩) selling tamales (玉米粉蒸肉). Seeing how tired he looked in his wheelchair, she decided to give him a few bucks and a sandwich—and she also gave him a sympathetic ear to listen to his story.
When Kenia Barragan first saw Jose Villa Ochoa, she thought of her own parents. “I felt for him,” she told KTTV News, “My parents are both older, and I would hate to see my dad out selling tamales for somebody and barely making ends meet.”
Known as “Don Joel”, he explained that although he wanted a job, no company would hire him because of his age. In order to keep himself out of debt, he started to sell tamales cooked by a local woman. At the end of each hard day, she would give him a cut of the earnings. This allowed him to buy food, but was not enough for him to afford his medical treatment or a phone.
The 28-year-old woman was happy to listen to Don Joel’s story, but she wanted to do more. She made an appeal to her followers on Instagram for some assistance. Within a week, friends and strangers flooded her with more than $84 000 in donations.
In addition to the money raised for Don Joel’s retirement, Kenia purchased him a new wheelchair and a shiny new pair of shoes. Even though he’s 94, he says he feels like he’s 40 now, because the kindness has made him feel so alive. He describes the generosity as “life-changing”.
Kenia feels exactly the same way. She says she’s always looking for a purpose that helps people and that she’s been living in line with those values in her current job, working with people who have disabilities to get them transportation. Her goal in life is to establish a homeless shelter.
【1】Why did Don Joel sell tamales?
A.To buy a new wheelchair.
B.To struggle for a living.
C.To pay off his medical debt.
D.To help a local woman.
【2】How did Kenia change Don Joel’s life?
A.By establishing a homeless shelter.
B.By giving him money and sandwiches.
C.By collecting donations on Instagram.
D.By listening to his story attentively.
【3】What can we infer about Kenia in the text?
A.She disliked her father because of his job.
B.She is a wealthy woman ready to help others.
C.She helped Don Joel when she was 40 years old.
D.She is a kind woman aiming to do more charity.
【4】What does the author want to tell us?
A.Rose given, fragrant in hand.
B.The best hearts are always the bravest.
C.No pain, no gain.
D.Sharp tools make good work.
