二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、More than 90 years has passed since Hollywood’s official film organization first proposed plans to build its own museum. Those plans are finally becoming a reality, with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures set to open in 2019.

The project is underway at the site of a historic Los Angeles department store built in 1939. Museum officials say visitors will be able to “experience the magic of cinema” by learning about all parts of the film-making process.

Film historian Kerry Brougher has been named directors of the museum. Brougher says the museum will include 12 million photographs and 80,000 screenplays as well as props (道具), costumes and other objects from famous films. The Academy Museum will also feature Oscar statuettes (小雕像) donated by actors who won the awards.

Brougher says the museum is designed to make visitors feel like they are in a movie, too, with many interactive experiences. “You won’t necessarily know what’s coming next,” he adds. “You’ll be in environments sometimes that make you feel like you’ve gone back to the past and that you’re in the area that you’re actually exploring.” He adds that visitors may even get the chance to walk down a red carpet and accept their own Academy Award.

Currently, Hollywood only has a few possibilities for visitors. They can go along the Walk of Fame and visit movie studios or see the Dolby Theater, where the Oscars are presented. But beyond these, movie fans have limited possibilities.

Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles says the Academy Museum will provide visitors the chance to experience many different parts of the film industry all in one place. Garcetti notes the museum will also serve the hundreds of thousands of local people working in film-related businesses. He says they, too, will finally be able to visit a place that celebrates their own Hollywood movie industry.

A. In the 1920s.   B. In 1939.

D. Actors will donate much money to the museum.

3What is Eric Garcetti’s attitude towards the Academy Museum?

4What is the best title for the passage?

B. The Film-making Process of Hollywood.

22、Stress is all around us, but there are some ways we can manage our strew regardless of what comes our way .

How many times do we find ourselves doing something just for money? Don’t get me wrong — I like money as much as the next person. But if most everything we do revolves around how much money we might make, we will end up being miserable. I would suggest you do things because they are the right thing to do, or because it feels good to you. The money will follow. 【1】

【2】 Do you know that by helping others you really end up helping yourself? If you give and share from a place of non-expectation, you will reap great rewards. Then you will let go of your problems and it will help reduce your stress.

【3】 They are either in a hospital or nursing home that have no one left of their family or friends. How about going to visit someone and maybe bring a pet along for the visit? 【4】 When you see their faces, and get their appreciation all your stress will simply melt away. Try it and see for yourself.

By having options and the right intentions you reduce the possibility of a situation causing you stress. 【5】 By doing so you will find that you feel better about yourself and end up with less stress in your life.

A.There are many lonely people out there.

B.You can also see how you can help others.

C.Actually, your stress will not melt away immediately.

D.How many times have you reached out a helping hand to others?

E.Some can be done individually, while others are best done in a group setting.

23、   Many people believe that there is one form of their language that is more correct than others. They may believe for example that British English is more correct than other varieties; or that written English is more correct than spoken English; or that standard spoken forms are more correct than dialect forms. Often this belief is supported by reference books to grammars, usage guides or dictionaries: if something goes against a rule in a grammar, or if the word isn’t in the dictionary, it “must be wrong”. Since the reference books are most often based on observation of the standard written language (and not by a grammar book in the sky) , the argument is really circular: these books will naturally describe standard usage, because that is what they are for; but this does not mean that there is anything wrong with other kinds of usage that are less often described.

A better way of looking at things is to say that usage is “correct in its place”. Standard American English is correct in America, British English is correct in Britain, spoken grammar is accepted in casual speech, and formal written grammar is employed in formal writing. The only forms that are wrong in all contexts(语境) are learners’ errors. For example: I have forgetting the your address, or One of your chairs are broken. This means there is no answer to the question: “What kind of English should learners study?” It depends on their purposes. For many learners, the best model is one or other of the two main standard varieties : British or American English. Neither of these is “better” than the other, and they are both used and understood worldwide.

People are also worried by language change. If younger people “break” the rules that older people have learnt, or use language in new ways, older people often feel disturbed: they are concerned that younger people no longer know their grammar, and that the language is going downhill. This is a needless worry: change is natural and inevitable, it cannot be stopped, and it does not generally affect a language’s efficiency as a communicative tool. A great deal of modem English grammar would have been wrong three hundred years ago, and will perhaps be wrong again three hundred years from now.

1Why does the author think “the argument is really circular” (Pa.1) ?

A.Learners are always confused by the reference books.

B.Usages not mentioned in the reference books are not necessarily wrong.

C.Nobody can challenge the authority of the reference books.

D.Some wrong usages can be found in the reference books.

2What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?

A.There is no “standard English”.

B.American English is better than British English.

C.A learner should master all the distinctions of different English.

D.The differences between British English and American English.

3The underlined word (Pa.3) can be most probably replaced with________ .

A.unbelievable B.uncountable

C.unacceptable D.unavoidable

4What is the author’s attitude towards the changes of English?

A.Disturbed. B.Cautious.

C.Optimistic. D.Aggressive.
