二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、The parenting styles of parents in the United States are often criticized. One type of parenting that is criticized is a helicopter parent. This kind of parents hover over their children like helicopters, which means these parents are always on top of their children.

While being an aware and involved parent is not a bad thing, helicopter parents take it to the extreme. The actions of helicopter parents actually hurt children, by not teaching them to be responsible for their actions. For example, a helicopter parent would call their adult college-age child to wake them up to go to class, when part of college is learning to be responsible and learning to manage your own time. Helicopter parents are also overly worried about their kids getting hurt. This means helicopter parents hold back their child's natural curiosity. Part of growing up means your kid has to get hurt, physically and emotionally. This is how lessons are learned. Instead, the kids of helicopter parents can grow up to be overly needy, dependent adults. Some people blame the rise of helicopter parenting on the rise of cell phones. Mobile phones make it easier for parents to track their kids all the time.

The opposite of the helicopter mom is the free-range mom. The free-range mom follows a slow parenting style, meaning she lets her kids explore the world at their own pace with little direction. The name free-range comes from the idea that kids should have the freedom to explore their world or range in a way that makes sense to them. This often means that free-range moms will not schedule activities like extra classes or play dates for their kids. Instead a free-range mom will just let her child play in a park. There is less of an emphasis on things like the latest toys.

23、   Taking breaks while studying contributes to better learning in a number of ways, and creates a major impact on the process of learning. Find out why a study break is essential, and how it helps you score the best.

Scientists conclude that the brain stops registering a constant stimulation over a gradual period of time, and declares it to be unimportant. The brain decodes(译)a monotonous(单调的)activity and gets habituated to it, no longer stimulating the brain to act in any way. Once this happens, you find yourself unable to concentrate, there by destroying the purpose of a study session-learning. A “break” does just that, it breaks the monotony for the brain. A change in place, a walk around the block, a cup of coffee; these little things can be limited in your study sessions to relax the mind, break the monotony, improve concentration levels, and finally assist the learning process.

The purpose of a study session is to study as much as possible and remember most of what has been learned in it. To be able to achieve this, it is absolutely necessary to continuously stay focused. It is highly likely that long hours of studying can become monotonous and cause you to believe that you are “learning”, when you are only just “reading”. A short rest eases out your stressed mind, brings you back on track, and allows you to start studying with new-found focus levels.

With a relaxed mind, improved concentration and focus levels, and a better capacity to retain information, it is obvious that your study session with breaks will turn out to be more productive, and you will get more benefits than you previously did. Put more such better-yielding study sessions together, and what do you get? perfect grades and a winner of the “race”.

2What should students do to study as much as possible?

C.Improve ways of learning. D.Give up the learning process.

3If you have a good attitude to study, how your study will be?

A.Efficient. B.Improved. C.Interesting. D.Easy.

4What can be concluded from the passage?

A.Students should concentrate on their study.

B.Students should take breaks after learning for long hours.

C.Teachers had better have a good rest before their lessons.

D.Teachers had better be strict with their students in learning ways.

24、   Yo-Yo Ma is an American cellist (大提琴家) born in Paris to Chinese parents. His musical career is a testament to his belief in culture’s power to generate trust and understanding. Whether performing works, engaging unexpected musical forms, or working with communities and institutions to explore culture’s role in society, he works to create a better world that begins with culture.

Expanding upon this belief, in 1998 he established Silkroad, a collective of artists worldwide creating music that engages many traditions. In addition to presenting performances, Silkroad cooperates with museums and universities to develop training programs for teachers, musicians, and learners of all ages. Among his many roles, he is artistic director of the annual Youth Music Culture Guangdong festival, a UN Messenger of Peace, and the first artist ever appointed to the World Economic Forum’s board of trustees.

When the pandemic began, Yo-Yo began an online series titled “Songs of Comfort” to ease anxieties. His short, self-shot videos soon reached over 18 million people.
