26、 Eat healthier. Exercise twice a week. Read more books. Lose weight. We make the same resolutions (决心) every year, but most of us fail, dying out after only a few days or, at best, weeks. Even the most successful among us crash and burn when it comes to personal change. President Barack Obama struggles to get out of his cigarette habit.
Professionals who help people make changes in their lives suggest the change is decided not by one’s surroundings, but one’s mind. Beginning with small goals or steps usually leads to a better result later, they say. But they notice that the experience is different for everyone.
“People are more likely to make positive changes in their lives not only when their friends do, but when their friends of friends do, and when their friends of friends of friends do,” said Nicholas Christakis, a professor of medical sociology at Harvard University. “People are better able to make changes in their lives—lose weight, quit smoking, become happy—when they do this with a large number of other people, and so taking advantage of your social network ties can contribute to your own efforts.”
Johnny Augustin understands that well. His resolution for 2008 was to reduce 30 pounds from his 237-pound frame. But the change didn’t come easily. He said, “I’m a huge procrastinator, I kept putting it off until tomorrow. I didn’t get to do it until the summer.” However, Augustin got encouraged when he saw his older brother working out. Today, Augustin weighs 190 pounds.
“Of course, change can happen only if people don’t set their expectations too high or try to deal with too many changes at once; one of the biggest mistakes we make is setting unrealistic goals,” said Dalia Liera, a psychologist at Lesley University. “You can’t accomplish in a few weeks what you haven’t accomplished in a few years,” said Liera.

A.have great determination to make a change
B.put off work especially because of laziness
C.have habitual carelessness and laziness
D.have no desire to do something great
【3】According to the passage, Dalia Liera suggested that __________.
A.people should understand their goals well
B.people should try their best to change themselves
C.people should have confidence and positive habits
D.people should start with setting small goals to meet
27、Body language is a form of communication without using words. 【1】 This means that the person using body language is not fully aware that they are using it. Some psychologists say that body language actually communicates more information than using words.
【2】 Human beings seem to know about other people by nature through their body language even when they speak a different verbal language. It is likely that in human prehistory, body language was an important survival skill that helped us to display and tell the difference between threats and safety.
Body language can communicate negative emotions. When a listener crosses their arms against their chest, it can mean disagreement with the speaker. This can also be indicated when a listener leans (倾斜) away from the speaker. 【3】 It can also mean disbelief.
Positive feelings are often shown through facial expressions, eye contact, and gestures. 【4】 When a person looks in another person’s eyes and then down at their lips, it usually means they have romantic (浪漫) feelings for the speaker. Standing or sitting straight with good gesture shows that a listener is taking the person’s speech seriously.
【5】 When a person is lying, they tend to touch their face during the conversation. They may also blink (眨眼) too much or not blink at all. Body language can reveal a lot about people but it’s important to remember that everyone’s body language is a little different, so learning to properly “read” information through body language can be helpful in interpersonal communication.
A.Lots of body language is actually unconscious.
B.Body language includes the use of gestures and eye movements.
C.Body language can even reveal when a person’s being dishonest.
D.A lack of eye contact can show a person is anxious or uncomfortable.
E.Smiling is obviously a universal sign of friendliness and appreciation.
F.People can practice body language to improve their ability to communicate.
G.Being able to “read” body language means being able to understand what a person thinks.
28、 A man who broke his neck outdoors in freezing conditions survived lying in snow for nearly 20 hours thanks to his dog,who kept him warm through the night and barked for help.
The Michigan man, named only as Bob, was alone when he left his farmhouse on New Year's Eve to collect firewood. Predicting a journey of only several metres, Bob was wearing just long jeans,a shirt and slippers when he went outside, despite the temperature being around —4°C. However, he slipped and broke his neck.
“I was screaming for help but my nearest neighbour is about a quarter mile away and it was 10 :30 pm, but my Kelsey came" said Bob. Kelsey is Bob's five-year-old Golden Retriever. She was letting out this screeching howl that alerted my neighbour. He found me at 6 :30 p. m. on New Year's Day. ”
Bob's neighbour eventually discovered him after hearing Kelsey's howls and called the emergency services. When Bob arrived in hospital, his core temperature was below 21°C. “I was surprised to find out that I didn't have any frost bite "said Bob, " I am sure it was because of Kelsey's determination to keep me warm and safe. "And to the surprise of doctors, Bob made a quick recovery from his neck injury.
“I am so thankful for my two heroes," Bob said. “Kelsey kept me warm, alert, and never stopped barking for help. Dr Colen saved my life and ability to move. They are truly heroes and I will be eternally grateful. ”

29、 Recently, a couple in New Zealand were forbidden from naming their baby son 4Real. Even though New Zealand has quite liberal rules about naming children, names beginning with a number are not allowed. 【1】
In many countries around the world, unusual names for children are becoming more popular, especially since the increasing trend for celebrities to give their children unusual names. 【2】The only restrictions on parents relate to offensive words such as swear words (脏话).
Some parents choose names which come from popular culture. For example, there have been six boys named Gandalf after the character in the Lord of the Rings novels and films. 【3】 Since 1984, 36 children have been called Arsenal after the football team.

In China, there are some rules about what you may call a child – no foreign letters or symbols are allowed. 【5】
In Britain, some names which were previously thought of as old-fashioned have become more popular again, such as Maisie or Ella for a girl, or Alfie or Noah for a boy.
