26、   Another milestone has been passed in the adoption of 3D printing. Daihatsua daughter company of Toyotaannounced that it would begin offering car buyers the opportunity to customize(订制)their vehicles with 3D-printed pars. This brings to drivers with more modest budgets the kind of individual tailoring of vehicleswhich is restricted to the luxury cars and sports cars of the super-rich.

The service is available. only to buyers of the Daihatsu Copena tiny changeable two-seater. Customers ordering this car from their local dealer can choose one of 15 "effect skins". The buyers can then use a website to improve the designs further to create exactly the look they want.

Copen buyers will like selecting unique add-ons rather than choosing from a list of standard accessories(配件),says Osamu Fujishita of Daihatsu. The company is testing the service in a few markets. "I think the Copen project is just the start," adds Mr Fujishita.

Other carmakers are watching closely. Generally. personal customization is available only where money is no object –on cars such as Rolls-Royces and Ferraris. But 3D printers change the economics of production. Since software is behind the processchanges can be made easily and cheaply. Besides 3D printing saves on retooling(更换)costs to make small runs of parts and spares if they suffer damage later.

The aerospace industry is already well advanced in using 3D printers for custom parts. Airlines often clearly customized fittings for the inside of their aircraft. Specialized parts are 3D-printed for acing cars toobut until Daihatsu's movemainstream carmakers have mainly used 3D machines to make prototype(原型)vehicles rather than production pars.

1What can we know about Daihatsu's 3D printing service

A.It is not widely available at present.

B.It has gained in popularity worldwide.

C.It is well received by the car markets.

D.It is only intended for buyers with a limited budget.

2Which of the following can best explain the underlined part “money is no object”

A.Money isn't the answer to great sales.

B.Money isn't everything but the only thing

C.Money shouldn't become the core of one's life.

D.Money isn't something that needs to be considered.

3It can be inferred from the last paragraph that

A.Daihatsu's move is to make 3D customized prototype vehicles

B.production of customized racing cars is less advanced in using 3D printers

C.Daihastu is a pioneer to produce 3D printed parts for vehicles in a sense

D.the aerospace industry has failed in practical use of 3D customized service

27、

China has recently been faced with serious issues of product safety. In Panama,it is said that medicine made with a poisonous chemical sickened some people.A Chinese company had identified it as diethylamide glycol(乙二醇),a lowcost substitute commonly used in automobile antifreeze(防冻剂).

Some countries have banned Chinesemade toothpaste containing diethylamide glycol. China has now told companies to discontinue its use, even though it says the toothpaste is safe. Another industrial chemical, melamine, was found in wheat flour used to make pet food in North America.

Thousands of dogs and cats became sick.

The United States has restricted some imports of Chinese seafood because they contained banned substance. And questions have been raised about other products, including children's toys covered with lead paint.

28、For most people, graduation is an exciting day the celebration of years of hard work. My graduation day... was not.

I remember that weekend two years ago. Family and friends had flown in from across the country to watch our class walk across that stage. But like everyone else in my graduating class, I had watched the economy turn from bad to worse. What I thought would take a week dragged into two. and then four, and 100 job applications later, I found myself in the exact same spot as 1 was before. And the due date to begin paying back my student loans was creeping ever closer.

You know that feeling when you wake up and you are just consumed with fear? Fear about something you can't control—that sense of approaching failure that remains over you as you hope that everything that happened to you thus far was just a bad dream? That feeling became a constant in my life. And the most frustrating part was no matter how much 1 tried, 1 just couldn't seem to make any progress.

So what did I do to maintain my sanity(理智)? I wrote. Something about putting words on a page made everything seem a little clearer—a little brighter. Something about writing gave me hope. And if you want something badly enough... sometimes a little hope is all you need! So I channeled my frustration into a children's book. And then one day, without any sort of writing degree or contacts in the writing world — just a lol of hard work and perseverance—I was offered a publishing contract for my first book! After that, things slowly began to fall into place. 1 was offered a second book deal. Then, a few months later, I got an interview with The Walt Disney Company and was hired shortly after.

The moral of this story is... don't give up. Even if things look bleak now, don't give up. Things change If you work hard, give it time, and don't give up, things will always get better Oftentimes all we need is the courage to push beyond the river.

【1】From Paragraph 2, we can learn that the author probably.

A.was having an exciting graduation

A.By sending applications.

B.By offering contracts.

C.By keeping writing.

D.By publishing books.

【3】Which of the following can replace the underlined word "bleak" in the last paragraph?

A.unattractive

B.hopeless

C.thrilling

D.promising

【4】What is the passage mainly about?

A.Success belongs to the persevering.

B.A contented mind is a perpetual(长久的)feast.

D.Misfortunes tell us what fortune is.

29、   Heating and cooling equipment are the biggest users of energy in American homes. And homes are responsible for about one fourth of the nation’s total energy use. But there are surprisingly simple ways to deeply cut energy useits effect on the environment and its cost. David Peabody and his team at Peabody Architects design passive homes. He says the design of a passive house aims to reduce energy demand to its lowest possible level. Passive houses use no solargeothermal or wind energy equipment. But they are extremely energy efficient.

Mr Peabody says passive houses cut heating and cooling costs by about 90 percent. But what sets his design apart from other "green homes" is that it looks like any other home. Peabody Architects says it is building the first passive home in the Washington. D.C. area. But it will not he the last. In Arlington. Virginia. Roger Lin and his brother Eric are also building one. Roger Lin of Southern Exposure Homes explains that windows are sealed against leaks and have three layers of glass. The windows are airtight. On a cold winter daythe temperature inside the unfinished home is a comfortable 12 degreesor 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

David Peabody says you can find passive honks all over the world. DAVID PEABODY

"North Africafor examplehas a passive house community designing for very hot dry climates.” The first passive design was an apartment building in DarmstadtGermany. Two physicists helped develop it about 20 years ago. Passive houses use some specialized materials. These include precast concrete panels and insulation(隔热).They also need to have special air treatment systems. Supporters say they cost only about five or eight percent more than traditional homes.
