26、 The U.S. solar industry is growing at a record-breaking pace, while becoming more affordable and accessible than ever before. The industry’s forward progress comes in part thanks to support from the Energy Department’s SunShot Initiative(计划).
Set up in 2011 to rebuild U.S. leadership in the solar marketplace, SunShot is to aggressively drive down the cost of solar-powered electricity generation across America.
To achieve this goal, SunShot works to lower the price of solar electricity to $0.06 per kilowatt hour (KWh) — a cost target that will make solar-generated power to be fully cost-competitive with traditional energy sources by the end of the decade.
Just three years into the initiative, SunShot is making significant headway. Today, the Energy Department announced that the U.S. solar industry is more than 60 percent of the way to achieving cost-competitive utility-scale solar photovoltaic or PV (光伏) electricity. In many parts of the country, solar electricity is already cost-competitive with traditional energy sources, including California, Hawaii and Minnesota.
Within the past few years, utility-scale PV has risen from a relative newcomer to the solar market to the fastest growing sector of the industry. These projects feature large, centralized PV systems that feed power directly to the grid (电网). While the operating history of utility-scale PV is brief, it is expected to take up most of the U.S. PV market through 2018, helping create new jobs, support other U.S. industries and improve economic growth as it expands.
One of the biggest benefits of the expanding solar industry is its influence on the U.S. job market. The Solar Foundation’s National Solar Jobs Census 2017 finds solar jobs increased nearly 20 percent since the fall of 2016, 10 times the national average job growth rate. There are more than 140,000 solar workers in the United States, up from about 119,000 in 2016. Not only did the industry go beyond growth expectations, but the pace of hiring has quickened, producing new hires at a rate 50 percent higher than last year.

28、If you want your life to stand for peace and kindness, it’s helpful to do kind, peaceful things. One of my favorite ways to do this is by developing my own helping actions. These little acts of kindness are opportunities to be of service and reminders of how good it feels to be kind and helpful.
We live in a rural area of the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of what we see is beauty of nature. One of the exceptions to the beauty is the litter that some people throw out of their windows as they are driving on the rural roads. One of the few shortcomings to live in the mountainous area is that public services, such as litter collection, are less available than those are closer to the city.
A helping action that I practice regularly with my two children is picking up litter in our surrounding area. We’ve become so used to doing this that my daughters will often say to me in exciting voices, “There’s some litter, Daddy, stop the car!” And if we have time, we will often pull over and pick it up. It may seem strange, but we actually enjoy it. We pick up litter in parks, on sidewalks, practically anywhere. Once I even saw a complete stranger picking up litter close to where we live. He smiled at me and said, “I saw you doing it, and it seemed like a good idea.”
Picking up litter is only one of endless supplies of possible helping actions. You might like holding a door open for people, visiting lonely elderly people in nursing homes, or removing snow off someone else’s driveway. Think of something that seems effortless yet helpful .It’s fun, personally rewarding, and sets a good example. Everyone wins.

A.By sharing his own experience.
B.By listing reasons for giving help.
C.By explaining different methods to be helpful.
D.By making a comparison with others.

A.Parents are the best teachers to their children.

My friend Jack had a birthday party recently and I wanted to make him something special to show how much our friendship meant to me. I pulled out the craft box and spread everything out on the table: markers, paints, seasheils, and construction paper. I stared and stared but couldn’t think of what to make.
Just then, my cat Charlie leaped on a pile of paper. The paper, and Charlie, slid across the table. I thought, “It looks like Charlie’s skateboarding (滑滑板) Skateboard! That’s it.”
I ran to my room and found an old photo of Jack and me with our first skateboards.
I worked all afternoon on the coolest picture frame ever. It was shaped and colored just like the skateboard Jack had in the photo.
I spoke to myself as I applied the final coat of paint. “I bet this will be Jack’s favorite present!”
When I arrived at the party, I set my gift behind all the others so Jack would open it last. The whole time we were playing games, I kept glancing over at it. Then Jack’s grandmother brought out the cake. Jack blew out the candles. Finally, it was time to open presents. Jack opened a book, a paint set, and a baseball cap. The next-to-last thing was a long heavy box.
“I got two of the same things for my birthday,” Justin told Jack. “So I’m giving one of them to you.”
Jack opened the box and pulled out a super-nice skateboard. “No way!” he shouted. “This is exactly the one I’ve been wanting. Let’s go outside and try it!”
“Um, Jack,” I said, “aren’t you going to open my gift?”
“Oh, of course!” He ripped (撕开) open the present, not even noticing the funny cartoons I’d drawn on the wrapping paper. “Hey, I remember this photo. Thanks, Arizona!” He put down the picture frame, grabbed the new skateboard, and called, “Come on, everyone! We can all take turns!”
Everyone ran outside—everyone except me.
