26、 If you’re looking for joyful, open-ended experiences with math that develop curiosity and pattern-finding for your kids, the following website activities may be helpful.
Which One Doesn't Belong by Mary Bourassa is inspired by Christopher Danielson” book of the same name. The concept is simple: there are four numbers, shapes, or graphs, and you have to find a reason each one is the odd (不合规律的)one out. If the numbers are 9, 16. 25, and 43, you could say 9 is the odd one out because it has only one digit« 16 is the odd one out because it’s an even number, 25 is the odd one out because it does not end in a multiple of three, or 43 is the odd one out because it is not a square.
●MathArtChallenge by Annie Perk ins is an open-ended way to explore math by creating patterns. Perkins is sharing daily prompt (提示词to inspire mathematical play everything from geometry constructions to toilet paper roll polyhedral(多面体)and other participants are sharing their creations on social media.

27、 Mention the word superhero, and the images that come to mind are of fictional characters like Spiderman, Wonder Woman, or Batman. However, photographer Josh Rossi has used his camera to show the world’s real superheroes — young children who are battling severe diseases and disabilities.
The event leading to the creative project began in 2016, when Rossi fulfilled his then three-year-old daughter’s dream of becoming Wonder Woman. Thanks to the handmade costume and Rossi’s impressive Photoshop skills, the photoshoot instantly became a hit.
Since it was Wonder Woman that brought about the idea, Rossi decided to focus on the superheroes that will appear alongside her in the upcoming movie, Justice League. To make the photoshoot more meaningful to the kids, he matched each child with a superhero with whom they had the most in common.
The first member of the real-life “Justice League” was Kayden Kinckle. The five-year-old uses prosthetics (假肢) to walk because both his legs had to be cut off due to a born disorder. To Rossi, Kayden’s perfect superhero was Cyborg, who was a healthy boy before a terrible accident left him injured, forcing his father to keep him alive with robotic parts.
Teagan Pettit was born with only half a heart and has already gone through three open-heart surgeries. According to Rossi, the nine-year-old fits the bill for Superman because they both have a weak heart. The fictional superhero grows weak when near Kryptonite (氪), while Teagen’s half heart is too weak to control his body temperature. The photographer says, “Superman and Teagan both have hearts of steel!”

28、 More than 100 people who met old friends, danced to pop music, ate hot dogs and celebrated Amityville pride Saturday came together. Terry Edwards, president of The North Amityville Old School Association-which hosted the gathering in Belmont Lake State Park-said he had grown up in Amityville with fellow association members David Joyner, John Fields and the late Columbus Poole in the 1960s. For fun, they and other neighborhood youths often played basketball together at Bolden Mack Park on Great Neck Road.
After they graduated in the 1970s, it became more difficult for everyone to stay in touch. They often reunited again only for funerals of loved ones. When Poole-who was fondly remembered as a “really nice guy”-died in 2002, Joyner and other friends began talking about gathering during happier occasions.
The most recent happy occasion was Saturday, the 16th annual Amityville Old School Reunion in West Babylon. While their first reunion at Bellmore in 2004 drew 10 to 15 people, organizers kept hosting the event, watching attendance grow steadily each year. In recent years, more than 1,200 people have attended. “Every year, there’s a new story from people you haven’t seen in 20 years, 30 years. They have a story to tell, “Joyner said, remembering reconnecting with a good friend at one reunion years ago and staying in contact ever since.
Madeline Quintyne-McConney, 66, an Amityville resident and the commissioner of Babylon’s Department of Human Services, said the gathering was not only a way for people to meet and reconnect with old friends, but also a way to celebrate Amityville’s “rich history” positively. Marilyn Fritz, 70, of Copiague, said her favorite moment was meeting one friend at a previous reunion whom she had not seen in 10 years. Fritz remembered crying tears of joy when the two reconnected. “We can remember the people we lost, but it’s also a celebration of life,” Fritz said.

A.Nobody participated in the reunion.
B.More than 1,200 people were present.

32、Aquaculture—or sea farming, as it is sometimes called—is one of the brightest hopes for finding an answer to the problem of a world food shortage. Although it may be years before sea farming produces large quantities of food, it is already partially successful. One of its successes is the growing of oyster (牡蛎).
Oyster farming is a big new business on Cape Cod, where large crops of oysters have been harvested. The waters there were famous for delicious oysters until the supply gave out about fifteen years ago. “There’s a whole generation of people who have never eaten oysters,” said Karl Touraine, marketing director of Aqua Dynamics Corporation, a company that grows oysters on nylon strings (尼龙绳) hanging from metal frames (金属架). “For about twenty years the oyster has been in short supply, and our aim is to change this by using new, modern growing techniques,” he explained.
“Wareham, on Cape Cod, is the first place in the US where oysters are being grown on frames just off the bottom of the sea,” said Hank McAvoy of the National Marine Fisheries Service in Gloucester. “But there’s nothing new about off-bottom raising,” Mr. McAvoy adds. “It’s been done successfully in Norway and Australia and, in the last few years, in Spain. The Japanese have used this form of sea farming for years, and they’re the most successful, with a yearly crop of more than 46,000 pounds of shelled oysters an acre.”
The Aqua Dynamics group grows oysters on strings, away from the bottom so that the oysters’ natural enemies cannot reach them. “When an oyster avoid enemies and live in unpolluted water with plenty to eat, he’ll grow fast.” Karl Touraine explains. “Oysters will attach themselves to almost anything they can,” he continues. “At Wareham, we use shells which we tie with nylon strings hanging from metal frames. We lower the strings into the water, leaving at least a foot of water between the lowest shell and the bottom.”
“So far the growth has been excellent and the taste is just delightful,” Mr. Touraine notes happily.

39、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
“Good news,” Mom said, with a bright smile on her face. "The Parker family wants Surfer. They'll be here in an hour to take him home. ” Surfer had been with us for two days. While I was sad at the thought of seeing him go, I knew I couldn't keep him.
My family operate a foster home(收养所)for pets. Surfer had been in an animal shelter, and he was sent to us so we could place him with a loving family. Surfer was a cute puppy, so finding a home for him had been very easy. Dad entered Surfer's information into a pet adoption website, along with some photos, and within a few hours, the Parkers applied to adopt him. Mom looked over their application, and they seemed like responsible people, so she called them.
However, not every dog was so lucky. Zooey was nine years old, and she'd been with us for a few months. It seemed like nobody wanted to adopt an older dog. Dad said that was a shame because older dogs made wonderful companions. Zooey's previous owner had treated her terribly, and when she was sent to us she was injured. I remember how angry Dad seemed at the time. "No dog should be treated like that,“ he said.
When Zooey came to us, she was upset around everyone. She barked at our two dogs as if in defense and backed away when I tried to approach her. But with our considerate care, it wasn't long before Zooey trusted us. I took her on walks around the neighborhood and got her used to other people and dogs. She took a real liking to Surfer. In fact, they often curled together as they napped(打盹).
The Parkers soon arrived, and we all went into the backyard so they could meet with Surfer. Zooey followed us out, her tail wagging lazily, as Surfer rolled in the grass with the two Parker children.

When I walked into the George Washington University Hospital with my therapy dog Willow on a late February evening, I had no idea that we were about to meet a young man, not even 25, fighting for his life in the ICU that night. Sam almost died when he was involved in an accident on his way home from work one day. He got numerous surgeries, among them two below knee amputations (截肢).
The ICU room was dark and cool when we entered. I could see Sam’s father sitting in a chair in a dark corner of the room, gazing down to the busy street below. He nodded hello, but did not speak. Sam’s mother was quickly pacing to and fro, trying to keep Sam comfortable and speaking encouraging words.
Sam was quiet. He was unaware at the time that he had lost his legs. But he just was not responding to the people in his room. Then something amazing happened; he saw Willow. I saw his hand slip from his lap to down below his bed rail and his fingers start to make a scratching motion. Willow ran right up to his bedside, expertly sliding her head right beneath his awaiting fingers.
I walked out of the ICU room completely overwhelmed with grief and a feeling of complete inadequacy in my ability to bring any kind of healing to this family. Just then I felt a strong grip on my forearm. I turned around and saw Sam’s mom.
“Will you come back tomorrow?” she asked.
I wanted to turn and run away, but I looked down at Willow, who had none of those feelings and whose eyes showed nothing but love and compassion, and before I knew it, the words “Yes, we will” had left my lips. I cried my whole drive home that night.

41、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
We live in a technological society where most goods are mass-produced by unskilled labor. Because of this, most people think that craft (手艺) no longer exists. One of the ways these people wrongly support their view is by pointing to 100-year-old homes which are still solid, and arguing that it is the craftsmanship that is responsible for their durability (持久性). “Homes in those days were well-built,” they say. There is no doubt that these homes were well-built, but what these people have done is mix up the quality of material used in the house with the quality of the craftsmanship.
Homes today could be built to last just as long as those old homes if people were willing or able to pay the price. For example, more people can no longer afford solid oak stairways, although they were once fairly common in older homes. Nor can they afford the high labor cost of employing a carpenter to build the stairway. Yet if someone can pay the high cost, there are still plenty of carpenters around able to make those stairways. And not only would these carpenters know how to build them, they would probably do a better job than carpenters of old.
One thing the modern carpenter has which enables him to do a better job is much more advanced tools. Such tools as laser beams and power planes help them lay out a house better and make more precision cuts (精确切割) on the wood. Also, it is not uncommon any more to find carpenters with college degrees and carpenters with a solid knowledge of mathematics, which would enable them to deal with more difficult house designs.
The problem of modern quality, then, really boils down to the problem of material, for the modern carpenter is just as able to produce craftsmanship as the carpenter of fifty years ago, but only if given proper material.
