25、A person has two ears but only one mouth. That means we should listen, not just speak. The word “listen” has the same letters as the word “silent”. Listening silently is a good quality that we should have. Then why is it important to be a good listener?

Listening is really helpful.

When someone is sad or angry, he wants to express his poor feelings. At this moment, we need to listen silently first until he gets calm (冷静的). Then we may have a good talk with him. Maybe it is a good way to help him out.

Listening is a kind of love.

For example, we may think our parents are always talking too much. But in fact, they do so because they are anxious about our health, study and so on. If we listen patiently, our parents will feel we care about them. A loving silence is often more powerful (有力量的) than words.

Listening is polite behavior.

Sometimes, we just want others to listen to us but forget to listen to others. In fact, that’s not polite. In order to show our respect (尊重) for others, we had better listen to them first. Then we can express our ideas.

Listening sounds easy, but it’s not. Every head is a world. So we should learn to listen with our ears, eyes and hearts as much as we can, and try to make ourselves good listeners from now on.

【1】When someone is sad or angry, we should ________ first.

C.It is easy to listen with heart.

D.Listening is the most important quality during conversation.

【5】What is the best title of the passage?

A.Why is it important to be a good listener?

B.Actions speak more loudly than words.

C.Speaking and talking.

D.Listening skills.

26、There are many different kinds of disasters(灾难)around the world. As an adult you know what to do during a disaster, but what about the children? Some adults think it would probably never happen to them, so they don’t teach their children what to do. Before it’s too late, here are ways to help you prepare your child for a disaster:

Educate: It is always good to let your child know about possible disasters. This doesn’t mean children have to live in fear. When teaching them about disasters, you can keep the conversation positive(积极的)by telling them there is a solution(解决办法)to the disaster. Keep the conversations short, and allow for questions and answer honestly.

Prepare: Always be prepared, and that is the best advice for children. For example, when preparing for bad weather, get the tools you need, like candles, radios, food, water and medicine. Teach your children what is needed in certain disasters so that they know what is available for them.

Plan: You should always have a plan for you and your children for any dangerous situation. Write out a simple list that they can read. The plan could start with “listen to an adult’s advice or call 119”.

Practice: Once you have got the correct safety tools and worked out the right plan, practice every few months. Practicing what to do during a disaster with your children will help them if the time comes.

Disasters can’t be avoided but they can be lessened(减轻)once you are prepared and ready for one.

Thanksgiving was just around the corner. The menu had been set. The shopping list was made. Everything seemed perfect. I could taste turkey and mashed potatoes(火鸡和土豆泥). Pictures of different pies, fruit and vegetables came into my mind. I couldn't wait

The day before Thanksgiving my dad called a family meeting. He said we needed to practice being thankful. "We are going to help out at a homeless shelter(收容所)on Thanksgiving Day.” I couldn't believe this was happening. So we wouldn't cook our own Thanksgiving dinner. The holiday wouldn't be the same. I thought the day would be ruined.

The next morning. we got up early. I followed my father to the shelter with my sleepy eyes. I had no great expectations and felt down all the way. As soon as we arrived, we got to work. There was so much to be done. But all I could think about was the dinner I couldn't enjoy.

However, those thoughts soon disappeared. Over the next few hours, I watched hundreds of people come through the shelter. For some, this was the only hot meal they would eat that week. For others, it was the first time to eat a Thanksgiving meal. The shelter was filled with joy.

Through this experience, I learned that Thanksgiving is a time to think about your blessings(祝福)and look for ways to bless others. When I gave up what I had wanted, I discovered how much I have. It is much better to give than to receive. In the end, that Thanksgiving became an unforgettable experience.

1Why did the writer's father decide to go to the homeless shelter on Thanksgiving Day?

A.Because he found they didn't have enough food this year.

B.Because he wanted to let the family learn to be thankful.

A.美好的 B.破灭的 C.悲痛的

A.The writer had always thought about helping others before.

B.The people in the shelter always had cold and terrible food.

C.The writer might go to the homeless shelter every year from then on.

5What is the main idea of the passage?

A.Helping others is helping yourself.

B.Being thankful for life and finding ways to bless others.

C.Remembering to show our love to the people we love.
