26、 I’ve been teaching college for many years, long enough to note the gradual relaxation of attention in matters of student dress. And I’ve long been used to the worn jeans, flip-flops and shorts. Still, I took note recently when one of my students showed up in pajama bottoms. I couldn’t help asking, “Did you just roll out of bed?” “Five minutes ago.” he responded.
I’m familiar with the school of thought that says that how students dress is not important, so long as they’re learning. This is much the same when they say “Grammar and spelling don’t matter, so long as they’re expressing themselves.” Perhaps. But I also wonder about the wisdom of blurring(模糊)the line between bed and desk. I should think that a careful consideration of clothes before entering a formal environment is a sort of visible reminder to oneself (and one’s teachers) that impressions are important and that we have come together to get down to business.
I suppose that I come from a time when there were “school clothes” and “play clothes,” and never did the two sorts meet. I grew up in a working-class family, to whom “looking sharp” was important. Personal appearance might have made the difference between getting and losing a job. So yes, I’m all for freedom of choice in matters of dress, and yes, I do want my students to be comfortable. But I also want to pay my respects to those students who believe that appearances matter.
I think of this lady I had in class a few years back. She was someone to whom science was never easy: She worked hard for respectable grades on every task. But I was impressed by how tastefully she dressed, day after day. When the course ended, I mentioned this to her. “You always looked so nice,” I remarked,“as if you were ready to take on the world.”
【1】Which of the following statements is Not True?
A.“Looking sharp” is helpful in getting a job.
B.It is wise to blur the line between bed and desk.
C.Students are being more and more casually dressed.
D.The author believes we should pay some respects to our appearances.
【2】What does the “school of thought” mean in paragraph 2?
A.a college that teaches thoughts B.a group of students and teachers
C.a way of thinking D.a branch of learning
【3】What do we know about the lady in the last paragraph?
A.She had a talent for science.
B.The author was impressed by her casual dressing.
C.Her grades were not decent though she studied hard.
D.She was one of the students who believed that appearances matter.
27、Linda Tutt High School opened a unique grocery store in the city of Sanger, where instead of paying for products with cash, their community can earn points which they then trade in. How do they gain points? By performing good deeds! All students, staff members and families in the school district have access to the daily goods they need to get through COVID-19——free of charge.
The store is supplied through a partnership with First Refuge Ministries, Albertsons grocery store, and Texas Health Resources. It is open three days a week. They even offer a COVID-friendly curbside(路边) pickup on Tuesday nights! It is meant to provide necessary daily goods for families in need. Families are automatically awarded points based on their family size, but students can help the families earn more by helping out around the school, cleaning, or getting good referrals(推荐) from their teachers. Headmaster Anthony Love called it “the ingenious method” , compared with the traditional approaches used to make students help others.
The store is operated and managed entirely by the students. Not only are they encouraged to show others kindness, but they also have a sense of control during this uncertain time. “Many of them come from low-income families that need just a little extra support with food,” Anthony added.
So the store has the extra profit of giving its student employees valuable experience. “I think this is the most exciting part of it, which they can carry with them as they graduate from high school and move on into the world,” Anthony said.
What a brilliant way to support their community! Between providing daily goods for families, giving kids experience concerned, and making their school a better place through good deeds, traditional businesses could learn a thing or two from this approach!

28、With paper flowers and music hanging around in the air, Lyu Jun was hosting a small farewell ceremony at an industrial zone in Shenzhen, Guangdong province. It was a funeral for a pet dog. Lyu came up with the idea of becoming a pet mortician (殡葬师) four years ago when he was preparing to start a business.
“At that time, there was only one brick-and-mortar(实体的) business that provided funeral services for pets in Shenzhen, but hundreds of pets die every day in this city,” he said. According to Lyu, many pet owners used to bury the remains of their beloved animals near their homes , which had a harmful impact on the environment and created the risk of spreading disease.
He saw a gap in the market for someone able to properly handle the death of pets. “A pet funeral service provides treatment of the bodies that is harm-free, and it is the greatest comfort to pet owners,” Lyu said.
He takes good care of the remains of the pets and tidies up their appearance before the funeral. In addition, he prepares funeral addresses and selects suitable tombs for the pets. He also films funerals for owners who cannot attend the ceremonies, and provides paper and pens for those who want to write down their blessings and hang the notes on the wishing tree.
Over the past four years, Lyu has bid farewell to more than 2,000 dogs, cats and other kinds of animals. He also does volunteer work in his spare time to promote responsible dog raising. “The pet funeral service industry is still in its babyhood, and I hope there will be a set of strict standards for people who take on this job and a belter environment for the industry,” Lyu said.
【1】Why did Lyu start the business on pet funeral service?
A.Because he could earn a lot of money from it.
B.Because he thought it met the market requirement.
C.Because he thought it would be a unique and challenging business.
D.Because he could help owners bury their dead pets near their homes.
【2】What does Lyu often do as a pet mortician?
A.He delivers speeches to mourn the pets.
B.He gives best wishes to the pets' owners.
C.He makes films of the pets for their birth.
D.He nurses and cares for the pets carefully.
【3】What can we infer from the last paragraph?

29、Blue light before bedtime can make it harder to sleep, and the screens on phones, computers, and televisions send out plenty of blue light. This is all true. But if you’re focused on blue light as a major problem affecting your sleep or your eye health, it’s time to look at it from another aspect.
As Philip Yuhas, a professor of vision, writes at The Conversation, blue light isn’t a uniquely technological evil. It’s part of sunlight, and your eyes are exposed to plenty of it all the time. You ‘ re fine. There are studies in mice that have found blue light can damage their eyes, but mice are nocturnal creatures (夜行动物) whose eyes are different from ours. The pigments (色素) and the lenses (晶状体) of our eyes actually block blue light fairly well-so in a sense, we already have built-in blue blocking protection
Adding more protection isn’t likely to help though. You can buy glasses and screen filters (滤光片) that block blue light, but Yuhas points out they are probably a waste of money: these products do not block out much blue light. The leading blue-blocking anti-reflective coating, for example, blocks only about 15% of the blue light that screens send out. You could get the same reduction just by holding your phone another inch from your face.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology doesn’t recommend blue-blocking products, either. Instead, if you’re concerned about your eye health or your ability to get to sleep on time, you already know what to do:
Put the screens away at bedtime. Read a book or find something else to do. While you’re using screens take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet away ( the “20-20-20 ” rule ). If you get dry eyes when you look at screens for a long time, use eyedrops labeled artificial tears.
【1】What do people think of blue light generally?
A.It is a necessary part of sunlight.
B.It is magical and rare.
C.It is the major factor affecting sleep.
D.All electronics send out blue light.
【2】What did the studies in mice find?
A.Mice can see clearly in the dark.
B.Our eyes actually block blue light well.
C.Eyes can be long exposed to blue light.
D.Blue light can damage mice’s eyesight.
【3】What can we know about blue-blocking products?
A.They block only 15% of the blue light.
B.Few have much effect on the blue light.
C.They can prevent much harmful lights.
D.They are thought highly of by experts.
【4】What could be the best title for the text?
A.How can Blue Light Be Prevented?
B.Why does Blue Light Make Sleeping Hard?
C.Are Blue-blocking Products Necessary?
D.What will Blue Light Affect Actually?

According to tech news website Android authority, the necessary displays were difficult to produce. In 2012, nine out of every to OLED screens produced were 【9】. Today, that 10 percent rate has been improved to between 50 and 90 percent. However, at present these fold-able devices are expensive. For example, the price of Huawei Mate X is 17,500 RMB. 40、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
Americans are proud of their variety and individuality, yet they love and respect few things more than a uniform, whether it is the uniform of a lift operator or the uniform of a five-star general. Why are uniforms so popular in the United States?
Among the arguments for uniforms, one of the first is that in the eyes of most people they look more professional than civilian clothes. People have become conditioned to expect higher quality from a man who wears a uniform. The television repairman who wears a uniform is likely to inspire more trust than one who appears in civilian clothes. Faith in the skill of a garage mechanic is increased by a uniform. What easier way is there for a nurse, a policeman, a hairdresser, or a waiter to lose professional identity than to step out of uniform?
Uniforms also have many practical good points. They are often more comfortable and more lasing than civilian clothes.
Primary fact among the argument against uniforms is their lack of variety and the loss of individuality experienced by people who must wear them. Though there are many types of uniforms, the wearer of any particular type is generally stuck with it, without change, until retirement. When people look alike, they are likely to think, speak, and act similarly on the job at least.
Uniforms also give rise to some practical problems. Though they are long-lasting, often their initial expense is greater than the cost of civilian clothes. Some uniforms are also expensive to maintain, requiring professional dry cleaning rather than the home laundering possible with many types of civilian clothes.
