21、What are American high schools like? Well,I'm happy to tell you what I know.
When I started school here,it had already been a week since the schoo1 opened. At this school, freshmen usually go on a trip for about three days at the beginning of school. Unfortunately I missed that wonderful trip.which would have been the best time to get to know my classmates.I was really sad.I wished I’d known about it earlier.
Despite the disappointment, however,I gradually adapted to my new life and schoo1.
There is a space in the basement of the teaching building where students chat and meet each other. As we do not always have the same classrooms and classmates, the school wants us to get to know each other there.Students usually come to school early, sit in that space and have fun.Around the space, there are many lockers for students to leave their books in,so that students do not have to carry a heavy schoolbag everywhere.
It really surprises me that we have almost no textbooks. We only have textbooks for World History and Algebra and they are big and heavy, like bricks. For other classes,we only need binders(活页夹)with paper in them.Without textbooks, students learn things freely and actively. For example,my humanities teacher just teaches us what is in her mind at the time.We never know what we will learn.
Another difference between American schools and Chinese schools is that American schools care about students’ morality more than their academic studies. For example,if you do not finish your homework, you will just be asked to do it later, but if you cheat or lie,you will get a warning or even be kicked out.
I think that most students here are good at schoolwork as well, but compared to Chinese students, they can make learning a more joyful experience.I think we should take the good points from our two different kinds of education to perfect our approach to studying.

22、 Before you start feeling regretful about eating too much, consider a new study from the Center for Nutrition Research at Illinois Institute of Technology that suggests the fat in avocado (鳄梨) can help you prevent hunger and stay more satisfied longer.
The study was published in the journal Nutrients on May 8, 2019. It concludes that overweight people who added avocado to their meals as a substitute for carbohydrates (碳水化合物) like cola were able to stave off hunger longer and increase meal enjoyment. On three different days, researchers fed 31 overweight adults one of three meals with the same calories; a high-fat meal with one avocado, a high-fat meal with half an avocado, or a low-fat meal. For six hours afterward, the volunteers reported how hungry they felt.
Everyone reported feeling fuller longer after the meal featuring a whole avocado; even the meal with half an avocado helped satisfy the volunteers longer than the low-fat meal. Further tests revealed that the avocado meals helped improve an intestinal (肠的) hormone called PYY—when it drops, you feel hungry.
“For years, fats have been targeted as the main cause of obesity, and now carbohydrates have come under scrutiny (监视) for their role in appetite regulation and weight control,” said Britt Burton-Freeman, PhD, director of the Center for Nutrition Research at Illinois Tech. “There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution when it comes to best meal composition for managing appetite. However, understanding the relationship between food chemistry and its physiological (生理的) effects in different populations can reveal opportunities for addressing appetite control and reducing rates of obesity, putting us a step closer to personalized dietary recommendations.”
Although nutritional experts have long blamed fat for weight gain, more and more studies like this one indicate that eating a proper amount of healthy fat can help prevent hunger and assist with weight control. This study proves that small, enjoyable changes in your diet like swapping a piece of bread for a yummy half-avocado can lead you to achieve your weight-loss goals.

24、How to protect your privacy when you travel

Data leaks, surveillance (监视) worries and those troublesome cameras in airplane seat backs and hotel rooms are enough to make passengers anxious. Perhaps they should be. 【1】. These tips can help you deal with these troubles.
【2】“It’s not clever to announce on Facebook that you’re traveling to somewhere, reminding a wide range of people that your house is sitting empty,” says Danny McLoughlin. “That puts your security at risk.” Wait until you return to start posting vacation photos.
Some homeowners may install (安装) security cameras. Travelers should find out if the hosts are required to disclose the presence of surveillance devices. If the rental comes with cameras, ensure they aren’t in a sensitive area. 【3】
Although you can’t control how a hotel or airline handles or mishandles your data, you can take reasonable steps to ensure the information it has won’t get you into trouble.【4】
But some of the worst data leaks happen when you’re staying at a hotel. For example, a hotel clerk sometimes asks for your name and then announces your room number after you’ve checked in. You’re better off handing the employee your ID when he or she asks for your name and asking the employee to write your room number on a piece of paper. Why?【5】 Just to be sure, never leave the customer copy (客户联) behind. You can destroy it later, but keep it under your control.
