Texting pedestrians arena' t just an annoyance to their fellow walkers, but something dangerous to themselves.

“1 was checking emails while walking to work this morning," said Wilbert van den Hoorn.“But it has a serious influence on the safety of people who type or read text while walking."

Anecdotes back him up.A tourist from Taiwan walked off a port near Melbourne last month while checking Face book-bringing an abrupt, and icy end to a penguin- watching visit. Another shopper in the U.S. was too addicted to his mobile phone to notice the fountain ahead! walking straight into it.

And as mobile-phone use has grown-to about 77% of the world's population, the study says-so has the number of phone-related accidents. The number of U.S.emergency-room visits linked to phone use on the move doubled to as many as l,500 between 2005 and 2010, an Ohio State University study recently showed.

Authorities world-wide have taken note.Signs on Hong Kong's subway system advise passengers in three languages to keep their eyes off their phones.Police and transport authorities have also warned the danger in Singapore, where the Straits Times newspaper ranked it as No.2 Bad Habit"' due to the rising number of road deaths. Some U.S.states, including New York and Arkansas, are even considering bans on this act.

The Australian study used 26 volunteers, a third of whom admitted having hit objects while texting. They were fitted with different equipment in different parts of their body, and asked to walk 8.5 meters three times-once without a phone, once while reading a text and once while writing a text-while eight cameras captured the action.

Volunteers using the phone walked slower and with shorter steps (and slowest of all when typing), and! more seriously, they locked their arms and elbows in-like “robots", in the researchers' words. That forced their heads to move more, throwing them off balance.

In a pedestrian environment, inability to maintain a straight path would be likely to increase potential for hits, falls and traffic accidents," said Mr.van den Hoorn. The best thing to do is to step aside and stop, or keep off the phone."

22、   Concern for the environment plays a big part in British hotel bookings, with research showing one in five are more likely to stay somewhere if it uses renewable energy sources.

In a new survey halt of travelers said that the sustainability and energy use of a hotel is important to them. And 19 percent said they would choose to stay in a recommended bed and breakfast (B&B) or a hotel that showed a willingness to look after the environment. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 50 percent said they would be willing to be an "eco-customer" if they got a 10-percent discount for adopting environmentally friendly behavior such as using one towel throughout their visit and using a limited supply of hot water. Almost a third of guests say that hotels should be judged on how sustainable they are.

ON, said, "Consumers are demanding more and more from their hotels. They want to stay in a hotel that uses renewable energy sources. It's therefore more important than ever that hotels are in control of their energy use. Most hotels redecorate every 7-10years, and this provides a significant opportunity to meet guest preferences as well as adapting to make energy savings. According to the Carbon Trust, some businesses have seen energy costs reduce by as much as 40 percent if energy efficiency opportunities are maximized during redecoration."

In order to prove its point. E. ON mentioned the case of Pat and Anthony Greenwood, owners of luxury B&B Seaflowers, in South Devon. They adopted a number of renewable energy sources and carried out many energy efficiency measures to be sustainable. They said. “Our guests are impressed by the energy efficiency of our home and frequently comment on our policies of using locally sourced ingredients, our own eggs, fruit and home-made bread for breakfasts. We have achieved the highest level of greenness, and it gives us great pleasure to promote our business as sustainable and efficient.”

四、书面表达(共1题,共 5分)

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When we are having quarrels with others, it is easy to say or do hurtful things in anger. The verbal wound can be as bad as a physical one. And no matter how many times you say you are sorry, or how many years pass, the scar of those wounds will still be there. If we are wise, we will spend our time building bridges rather than barriers in our relationships.

Once upon a time there was a little boy who was talented, creative, handsome, and extremely bright. A natural leader. The kind of person everyone would normally have wanted on their team or project. But he was also self-centered and had a very bad temper. When he got angry, he usually said, and often did, some very hurtful things. In fact, he seemed to have little regard for those around him, even friends. So, naturally, he had few. “But, “he told himself, “that just shows how stupid most people are! “

One day at school, when having a craft class, his partner accidentally crushed a small part of their handiwork. The boy immediately got extremely angry, starting to criticize and tease her. “You disgust me! “After hearing those hurtful words, she started to cry uncontrollably. Before long, the girl began shutting herself away from everyone and was seized by a sense of worthlessness. Fortunately, under the guidance of teachers, she broke away from the trap of worthlessness. But she never talked with the boy.

Having known what happened at school, the boy’s parents became concerned about this personality flaw, and thought long and hard about what they should do. Finally, the father had an idea. And he struck a bargain with his son. He gave him a bag of nails, and a big hammer. “Whenever you lose your temper, “he told the boy, “I want you to really let it out. Just take a nail and drive it into the oak boards of that old fence out back. Hit that nail as hard as you can!

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The boy started to hit the nail, but it wasn’t as easy as it first sounded.
