The plane is the first in a series of flights over the next 30 days organized by the White House to help fight the coronavirus, the White House said. Most of the purchases are from Asia including Malaysia and Vietnam.

The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. retweeted a report from Axios, which said that 12 million gloves, 130,000 N-95 masks, 1.7 million surgical masks, 50,000 gowns, 130,000 hand sanitizer units, and 36,000 thermometers from China have arrived in the United States.

The plane was funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. It landed at John F. Kennedy airport carrying gloves, gowns and masks for distribution in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, three hard-hit states battling to care for a crush of coronavirus patients.

The airlift is a product of a team led by White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, which formed "Project Airbridge," a partnership between large U.S. healthcare distributors such as Mekesson Corp, Cardinal, Owens & Minor, Medline and Henry Schein Inc, and the federal government.

27、Young mums shopping in the Copley Mall in downtown Boston-month found themselves being questioned about their use of soap by students from Harvard Business School usually known as HBS. The students were not doing odd jobs to earn beer money. They were preparing to help a firm in Brazil launch an antibacterial cleanser.

The 900 students arriving in Boston this summer for their two-year course were told that they wouldbe subjects. The new practical addition to HBS’s curriculum is known as “FIELD” that stands for Field Immersion Experiences for Leadership Development. Fieldwork — ie, going out and talking to people — is a big change for HBS.

Not all the staff and students were overjoyed to be experimented on. But the man responsible, Nitin Nohria, head of HBS, says that “If it works, the FIELD method could become an equal partner to the case method.”

What happens in the second year of the new course is still being worked out. But the first year has three elements.First, team-building exercises. Students take turns to lead a group engaged in a project. They learn to cooperate and to give and take feedback.Second, students will be sent to work for a week with one of more than 140 firms in 11 countries. In the third part of the course, students will be given eight weeks, and seed money of $3,000 each, to launch a small company. The most successful, as voted by their fellow students, will get more funding. The experiment does not come cheap, adding 5-10% to the course’s cost, which HBS will bear while it figures out what works.

28、   Let me start by saying that I don’t have a smartphone, but I probably will in the future. I think smartphones are basically awesome and I have nothing against the basic idea of using smartphones.

My problem starts when the lines between fun and work, between alone and together— become blurred. I’ve just returned from two years in a different country, and haven’t been around my friends for a while. The first several times I met them all, I was surprised to discover that even though we’re all sitting around in the same room, people are actually sitting around smartphones and playing/surfing/taking pictures.

Smartphones made it easier than ever before to access e-mails everywhere. Whether you’re on the bus, in bed or at the bar with your friends — your e-mails are right there and available to you and this can definitely be a problem. Work is great, but is answering e-mails at 3 a.m. really necessary? Do you really want to have to choose between friends and work when you’re hanging out in a bar, just because you happened to see that e-mail?

Smartphones revolutionized our lives. I’m not here to oppose that. But should they replace many of the other things we used to be doing, together and alone? If you think about it for a minute, I’m sure you’ll find someone you know who sometimes finds it hard to draw the line between phone time and people time. This has been a problem for a while, but smartphones make it that much worse. So don’t throw away your smartphones just yet; but do try to remember, at the end of the day, they’re just phones!

1What does the underlined word “blurred” (para. 2) probably mean?

A.Blocked. B.Unclear.

C.convenient. D.wrong.

2What happened when the writer met his friends after he returned from abroad?

A.They welcomed him warmly.

B.They sat in the same room talking happily.

C.They went to a net bar to surf the internet.

D.They played with their smartphones.

3The writer is likely to answer e-mails _____________.

A.in his office on the morning of workdays B.on a bus to work

C.in bed at 3 a.m. D.in a bar after work

4What does the writer suggest people do in the passage?

A.Throw away their smartphones.

B.Check e-mails all the time.

C.Draw the line between phone time and people time.

D.Communicate with others using smartphones.

29、It’s 4 a.m. The clock ticks , the dog snores and you just stare . And you know you shouldn’t be staring – you should be sleeping ! 1 , and it’s hard to fall asleep when you’re mad .

So what do you do ? The tips below might help you sleep easier . Here’s the advice of Eric Olson and Harneet Walia , two doctors from the Cleveland Clinic’s Sleep Disorders Center :

·Get out of bed

When you lie awake in bed , you send yourself the wrong message . As Walia says , you’re basically training your body not to sleep in bed , but to lie there and not sleep . 2 . Olson puts it another way : “ The longer we lie there and get frustrated in that environment , the more we come to expect it next time we’re there . 3 . ” So if you’re unable to sleep , slip into your bunny slippers and out of the room .

·Try relaxation techniques

Use whatever relaxation tips you know to fight against this inappropriately timed wakefulness . 4 . You simply note the rising and falling of your breath , and focus on the parts of your body where you feel your breath , whether it’s in the lungs , tip of your nose or elsewhere .

·5

Sometimes the sleeplessness arises from worry . Your brain is overworking , thinking about your bank account and the big meeting tomorrow . For people who consistently have trouble quieting the mind at night , Olson suggests trying to train your mind to think about those things at more appropriate times of the day .

Erase anxiety

Figure out appropriate times

Your mind can get used to that

Try your favorite calming yoga pose

You need to develop a regular sleep schedule

We come to associate the bedroom with not sleeping well

The frustration that you cannot go to sleep will make you feel angry

四、短文填空(共1题,共 5分)

31、Directions: Complete the following passages by using the words in the box. Each word can only be used once. Note that there is one word more than you need.

As dusk falls at the Lehua Night Market, the fluorescent (荧光的) lights flicker on and the hungry customers start trickling in, anxious for a taste of the local delicacies that give this island its reputation as one of Asia’s finest cookery 1 .

Nearly arranged pyramids of plump fish balls, bowls filled with tapioca balls 2  in lightly sweetened sauce, sizzling oyster omelets, hot off the griddle, deep-fried sweet potato puffs (冒热气), still 3 with oil. Take a bite of any of these dishes and you’ll discover a unique texture. But how exactly do you 4 that perfect “mouth feel” so sought after by local cooks and eaters alike? Slippery? Chewy? Not exactly.

Luckily, the people in Taiwan have a word for this texture. Well, actually, it’s not a word, it’s a letter—one that even non-Chinese speakers can pronounce.

It’s “Q.” Basically, it means springy, soft, elastic.

Andre Chiang, a Michelin-star chef and owner of RAW in Taipei, said he has been 5 with the texture at his restaurant, which uses only local materials. “It’s like aldente (筋道) but not quite,” Mr. Chiang said.

Q is so well 6 in Taiwan that many in Hong Kong and across the Taiwan Strait in mainland China use the term as well.

There are many other uses for the term Q in Chinese as well. It could be used, for example, as short form for the English word “7”, or to refer to the once-popular QQ messaging service from Tencent.

Among the local people, the 8 for Q texture starts at a young age. On a recent sticky evening at the Lehua Night Market, a group of people gathered at stand with a sign that 9 “QQ ice lolly.” Asked why Q texture was so 10 to Taiwanese, Lu Wei-chen, the owner of the stand, smiled as she handed a bright red jelly bar to a delighted toddler.

“It’s simple,” she said. “When you eat it, you will be in a good mood.”
